Many girls in the boarding houses are part time or professional hookers, usually catering for the local market. I have been approached by pimps myself and led to boarding houses on three or four occasions. I like to go out of curiousity more than anything and the times that I went were afternoons. I never took a girl as I was always disappointed and also the fact that many of them had to be woken up even though it was afternoon and looked a bit dishevelled.

I have seen lots of street walkers around Colon Street late at night, including blocks north and south of the street itself, they are abundant particularly after 10pm.

As for the posts enquiring about street walkers in Lapu Lapu I actually posted on this subject when I was staying in Lapu Lapu in 2009 and I have cut and pasted the relevant part of my post here.

Don't make it look so easy, so great, that guys go teeming there expecting Nirvana.

Of course there are girls there, but not the way you colourfully describe it. Yeh, and students of sex might be there too, but not students per se. If they are studying then, maybe 25% at best of their time, other 75% selling themselves. I don't call that students as we know them.

Of course there are girls living in little dumpy rooms in that area and many other areas, but I would not call them boarding houses, which to me means lots of girls in one area. They are not boarding houses, they are part of a regular house, and usually only for girls, cause guys cause too much trouble. Don't think your going to step into a compound and find girls leaning out the window calling out to you. Are you going to call at someones house and ask the girls boarding there to come outside so you can inspect them? Its not that scene at all.

And by the way latest rumour is Jonquerra is being destroyed. Houses in that area already demolished and all are to go, be torn down, within 6 to 12 months. Girls numbers there very much down as a result of the new Barangay Captain who does not like prostitution. Jonquerra as we know it, is to be destroyed, according to the info fed to me by Filipinos. Apparently the majority of girls that were there have dispersed to other areas or provinces. Easily proved one way or another by someone going to Jakosalem entrance. So far I classify the information as rumour only, but its coming from a resident of Jonquerra and another who depends on Jonquerra for a livelihood, so good chance it is true.

People who colour up the downtown scene are misleading people. Regular Filipino people do not step into that area late at night. It's the place where folks get murdered too often.

I know you, the person who will respond to that statement, you have been walking around there forever and nothing has ever happened to you, but it does happen. Why rummage around the bottom of a trash can when you can better, safer, elsewhere? It's all on this Forum, do something for yourself and find it.

And I reserve the right to jump on anyone who I consider is talking hype. I have got my say and you have got yours. People who actually follow up your advice are free to write in and tells us what they actually experience.

From your Gaisano Metro experience, all I can say is you must be Tom Cruise. Why travel to Philippines you should be able to get plenty back home and free, LOL.

but i repeat to all newbies reading the glowing reports from tom cruise and others, downtown is not a safe area late at night. no sensible filipino will be seen there late at night, and yes you the one who is about to retort, you have had no trouble there for a very long time. doesn't mean the place is safe, and newbies reading this stuff from afar including iceland, wherever, should be told so.

Here is my one and only post to you, I am not going to go on and on about this. You are free to do so, however. Here is my one and only post to you.

I do not promote walking around downtown area late at night because it is not safe. Your trying to twist my Jonquerra comment to cover the whole downtown area per se. Jonquerra is an enclave, not a batch of streets, for those who have never been there.

I personally know one foreigner who died 2 or 3 years after being brutally attacked late at night in the downtown area. In his case it was the very public Colon Street where he came unstuck. But its not very public late at night as its only inhabited by the rats, pimps, desperate girls, and the likes of Mortman, it seems. Foreigner friend spent those last years of his life wasting away in a wheelchair. For his habit of walking around downtown late at night, and early in the mornings, he paid a heavy price, his life. He was a resident, so he walked around more than fly in fly out mongers would, and therefore had a greater chance of becoming unstuck. But it can happen, and everyone should know it.

Keep walking around there if you like Mortman, I just do not think people should be given the impression that it is a safe area to walk around.

Out of curiosity. 10 days ago, I stopped the taxi at the Jakosalem entrance to Jonquerra to see if what my Filipino friends were telling me was true. Years ago I partook of the unfortunate girls of Jonquerra.

Instead of 20 or more girls and six or more pimps surrounding the taxi, only 2 or 3 girls and 2 pimps were there. The alleyway leading into Jonquerra proper itself was deserted of mama-sans and others. One such sighting doesn't prove my Filipino friends story, but looks a bit that way. More should visit and report their findings. I am no longer in Cebu. I didn't see any sign of houses being torn down, but never entered Jonquerra proper anyway. Residents of this area have never paid rent, they are squatters pure and simple, and apparently have no rights to avoid eviction. But I think they will put up a hardy resistance just the same. Doubt if they will all be evicted within a 6 to 12 months time frame, hence some girls will be there, but most apparently have moved out. Don't know for certain until others who know the place at its peak, say up to 12 months ago, visit again and report their findings.

Perhaps the Jonquerra girls have dispersed to Lapu Lapu. Anyway, not my concern cause I don't rummage around trash cans anymore. No need for that, when there are so many quality girls on offer elsewhere. For me it's an object of curiosity only, these days.

If I wanted to, I could look up your first post on Jonquerra 2 or 3 years ago where you gave a false and misleading impression on Jonquerra, and it was your first visit there, but like Tom you put it across like you knew it all. I figured it would be only a matter of time before you crawled out from the woodwork again spitting venom in your usual style. Look back through your posts on Jonquera, you contradict yourself one minute saying it is safe and the next minute you are saying how dangerous it is. Its a shame you don't remain lurking on the board (your words not mine) and stay away from posting, your childish sarcasm is not helpful and nor is it welcome.

Since you mentioned it and not me, my Jonquera reports have all been based on actual visits and personal observations. The old post of mine on Jonquera that you mention got you pissed because I stated something that you thought you knew better and you resented being told anything. After all you are an expert are you not? It was not because my post was in any way misleading or untrue, yet another one of your many contradictions.

I have never said downtown is safe and I don't think anyone else has either, perhaps you have been reading the wrong posts Sxxx? Downtown is certainly poor and neglected and you need to keep your wits about you at all times, just like you need to do in any similar area of any other foreign city at night. However your armchair criticism and suggestions that you are likely to be murdered by going there is going just a bit too far. Yes if you walk round drunk, flash your cash, or show disrespect you are likely to end up in serious trouble. Stick to the main thoroughfares, behave confidently and be observant and you can try a taste of the raw and seedy part of Cebu without (as Sxxx suggests) ending up in a morgue.

It is immaterial to me whether people go or stay away from the downtown area and I know it is not everyone's cup of tea. I enjoy myself downtown at night, I try to exercise common sense and I do not see why anyone else should not. Excessive scare mongering is a bit silly in my book and if you do not agree with GG's or others posts, you don't need to be rude or insulting to articulate your point

DIA is hit and miss and my view is that if you just read the war stories relayed on DIA you will mostly hear the hits as thats the way guys work. In Ayala and SM there are a bunch of pro girls who see it as their place of business and will make flirtatious eye contact and go back to your hotel very easily. There are also many normal girls or shop girls who are not quite such easy pickings and will need a degree of confidence, and charm or technique of some sort to seduce

1 I think a few decent high quality leads are VERY useful to guys who are new to the Phils or don't have limitless time to surf the dating sites or have a knack with chatting up girls. Of course there are thousands of girls available in the Phils and dating sites etc and its very easy to get 10-20 cell nos, however unless I am missing a trick girls who I would call high quality. Ie young, cute, no stretch marks, intelligent enough to be a charming dinner companion, reliable, good in bed, open to sex, not insanely jealous, not going to bombard you with annoying texts, not looking for mega bucks are very much the exception and not the rule. There a re guys on this site who give the impression that they are able to meet an endless supply of such women with minimal effort and zero cost. All I can say is hats off to you, you are much more skilful at it than me.

2 My experience of providing contact details has been very mixed. On the positive side 2 girls have got married and 2 are now engaged to be married through the help I've given them finding guys. Others have had trips to various places or financial assistance which has come in very useful. 95% of the guys have been appreciate of my help. The problem comes with the 5% when things go wrong. Some guys are not above posting BS stories in this forum to trash a girl's reputation if they break up with her or are otherwise overcome with jealous frustration / anger. The other issue is that many guys think that helping other guys out is such an odd thing to do that they can't believe you are not getting some sort of financial or other benefit, so you get disparaging innuendo about being some sort of pimp. A further problem is that many guys who come to the Phils prefer to have unprotected sex and inevitably this results in unwanted pregnancies and STDs because in most cases the girls are too weak to insist on safe sex. Being a nice guy, I always seem to be the one they turn to for advice or help dealing with these issues with the guy responsible for her condition disappeared from the scene.

The net result is that speaking personally I have become much more cautious about giving out contact details than I was earlier.

When I hear some of the stories girls tell me about how some guys treat them then I certainly don't want to send any of my lady friends off to bad experiences.

We all agree here in various posts that we all have very different tastes so even if a friend recommends a name and number to me I still always make a point of checking her out either on cam or in a coffee shop before I move to the next step.

I think your comments are very accurate about the DIA scene and I must admit I thought the old posts alleging you were some kind of pimp were rather stupid. But the point you make about the effort required to get just a handful of reliable and quality girls is true, I often spend many hours on line cultivating DIA contacts before meeting them in person.

The groundwork is very time consuming and tedious but it does pay off in the end. That is one of the main reasons I do not share contacts and the other being that some guys may not like the same qualities and physical traits that I find attractive.

I don't know if you read my post on Lapu Lapu but a visit and a field report would make interesting reading if you want to explore the Lapu Lapu scene. The area I mentioned is as far as I can tell is not frequented much by foreigners, I may try and visit there when I am back in July. I have also visited Casas in Lapu Lapu, they do exist but you will need to use a taxi driver which carries with it the inherent risk of being ripped off. The last time I used a casa in Lapu Lapu, the taxi driver got out and started talking to the manager in Cebuano. I had the feeling the taxi driver negotiated himself a commission, but it still only cost me 1500 as I remember. As for DIA girls, you didn't say when your visit to Cebu starts but surely you have made some effort before hand to contact girls? I find the pros and semi pros on DIA are easier to meet, they are less likely to let you down than regular girls and they are usually easy to spot on DIA in their bikini or underwear shots or their provocative and sexual poses
