Newbie No Spanish First Trip Report
I would like to thank the entire contributor's on ISG forum that made this trip possible it is much appreciated! The Google Santo Domingo map is a must have and its awesome to get a sense of location, distance, directions, and important notes.
Since this is my First trip to DR and not speaking Spanish, this forum gave me all the insights to have a successful fun trip so far. Still in Santo Domingo and giving a short trip report while everything is still fresh in the mind.
Sunday landing early evening at SDQ, purchased 2 Baileys Irish Cream Coffee (The locals love the re-freshment) 1 liter bottles for 35USD at duty free baggage claim arrival area, there is another duty free shop before the arrival area, don't purchase from that one unless you like higher prices. Upstairs on the 2nd floor is the Pharmacy and also caught a taxi from the departure area for 30USD, the taxi dispatcher wanted 35usd originally until I started walking away. Off to the Hostel Riazor which was around 30 min ride, paid 60USD single with balcony which includes a safe (with a key, bummer) , not a bad lite breakfast which has coffee, juice, and small portion of eggs / meat with outdoor seating to enjoy the ambience. The person's managing the front desk can speak English. Since my room is on the 1st floor (really 2nd floor) can get a weak Wi-Fi internet connection. I would rate this 2. 5 star hotel which is clean, decor is nice and guest friendly. This could be a deal breaker for some people, there is construction noise going on between the hotel and the restaurant which starts after 8am.
305 is pretty accurate on what other's has reviewed, owner and Willie the manager speaks good English. Willie was very helpful and he also got an employee to get me a Claro 500 min pre-paid sim chip for 800RD.
GPB is like other's have talked about this place is pretty awesome if you don't mind the furnishings.
Once outside Hostel Riazor, just make a left and walked down a few blocks Av. Independence has a pharmacy (bank inside & cell phone sim cards) , supermarket, restaurant, small store called Colmado Altagracia on Av. Independencia no. 25 the owner speak a little English to purchase small items like water, soda, snacks and the price is reasonable.
To be continued;
I guess they do not have the wi fi yet in all rooms

I need ariport transportation to the Marriott Jaragua
I am arriving tonight in Santo Domingo and I need arrival and departure transportation to this hotel. Does any one have any suggestions. I have not made any resorvations for airport pick-up.
No Joy In S. D. On Viernes
Well this is not my 1st time in D. R. But this is my first time in S. D. And so far it's a bust. (and not the kind that I like). The local rep for 'A2B Transfers' showed up at the airport as expected even though the driver had to get directions twice to the Jaguar. On my AT&T phone! I'll pay for that! Everything is in walking distance, (except some chicas!) , Manolos; the pharmacy to get a SIM card. Requiring your passport! (what's that about?). Luckily I was carrying it with me. The manager does speak English and was very helpful. (and has a nice rack). On the way back to the hotel I spy a local chica built the way I like 'them (magnum sized ass / flat stomach) that made Mr. Happy wake up. She was walking in the other direction across the street with a girlfriend and I wanted to see if I could introduce myself at least, but the traffic was so busy I couldn't cross without getting hit and didn't want to chase after them and look like a weirdo so I had to let it go. Damn! The Jaragua Casino is in the same area so after a quick rest and shower I walk down with anticipation, and after finally finding the right entrance, located the casino. (They don't believe in a lot of signage here do they?)
If there were any WG's inside it was hard to tell. I moved around, letting myself be seen, and at 6'3", that's not hard to do. It seemed the ladies were more intent on winning a few pesos than earning some. After about 60 min and the thought of giving up I start a Spanglish conversation with a local, way past her prime, just to pass the time, when a '10' comes walking out one of the hotel's restaurants. She looks obviously expensive (take my word for it, she looks like she works the well-heeled vacationers in the hotel) and I don't like to do desperation bargaining, so I decided to call it a night and try one of the casas on Saturday. Maybe I can salvage this trip.
