Hey guys,

I always want to go to DR but everyone tells me to stay in a resort because it very dang res to stay in the city I'm looking to meet girls and play have fun go out at night to clubs im from NY im looking to go with 2 of my friends I been to Brazil I had fun now im looking to go to DR can you tell me will it be safe for 2-3 single guys in DR at night and day.
Pay no attention to any "stay in a resort" nonsense. Go out and explore. Watch out for any cock grabbing chicas with fast hands. They are expert pick-pocketers.

I've wandered all over the place by my damn self at all hours of the day and night. Brazil is far more dangerous than DR.

*Volpone - You can meet pros during the day in both Boca Chica and Sosua, I like Sosua better. You could certainly meet plenty of girls on the northcoast at night and work out arrangements with them for "next day" fun. Outside of looking in on their kid(s) and maybe running an errand or two for their moms most of these girls will probably be more than happy to spend the day with you.

Is there some reason you feel you need to be near the capital? You're right Sosua is a haul, but is not too far from Santiago (the "capital" of the north) ;)

*Twilod- The DR is a relatively safe tourist destination. I've taken many trips never had any kind of problem. "Relatively" safe is pretty good when you're talking about Latin America. Honduras and Guatemala I found to be much more risky, with a "creepy" scary vibe in Zona 1 in Guate City and parts of San Pedro Sula, Honduras near the soccer stadium. In the Dominican Republic, parts of the capital SDQ are probably best left to day trips but if you keep your head about you, and when in doubt take a cab and you'll be fine!

cheers,

Hi Twilod,

the answer is YES.....as long as you stick to some basic rules. I don't have to repeat them here. I think you know what I mean.
In NY,Amsterdam or even in Oslo you also could get mugged, robbed or whatever. If you're alone, drunk and walking in an dark alley in a bad barrio....you're just asking to get mugged imho.hell you don't even have to be drunk! people will notice that you are gringo...even if you are a black guy.

Let me tell you this: The most stupid MISTAKE I ever made was (besides marrying my ex-wife) booking a tour to the DR (back in 2002) in a RESORT HOTEL!!!!!!!! First of all NO resort lets in girls. Forget about that. I tried it....even try to BRIBE the guard and the lobby guy.....didn't work!
Second of all these places are swarming with mommis, daddies and kids.....so you certainly will stick out being a (single traveling) male monger!! LOL
Thirdly i think the food is NOT that great in a resort. maybe i just had the bad luck to have a shitty resort.....but when I am in the DR i will LOVE to go out and dine. NO more resort food for this guy;-) Fuck...even for the desayuno I am going out! I hate most hotel breakfasts.

I second the issue that Brasil is more dangerous....in fact FAR more dangerous then DR. I have been hearing all kinds of sad stories about turistas being mugged etc...etc in Fortaleza and also Rio and SP. Also more and more busses get hijacked and travelers get robbed. The latest "hit"seems to be that criminals enter the hotels and "cream off" all guests!! You wouldn't DARE to compare Rio with Santo Domingo!!!!! Even in Colombia I felt more safe as in Brasil!!!

regards,

Johan

What is the best city in DR to hit with nighlife and sexy girls and beaches!
Hi Maybe Johan Can Help me out on this. I heard He will be in THE DR Next month. Hey Buddy I too am thinking of going to THE DR Early next year. Hi Nibu,

what's up? Well I am also looking for a cheap hotel. BUT with all respect i don't think you wanna stay in the 10-15 US$ range priced hotels. I found out that most hotels start (in SD that is) arround 25 bucks or more.
If you seek something in 10 dollar range my guess would be you soon find yourself in somekind of "love-motel".....if you know what I mean.
(you do remember the "Polonia" Hotel in Lima.....right??? hahahahahahhahaha)
Well for one night this wouldn't be a problem...but to stay there for a longer period? I would NOT recommend such places to anyone. Security, hygiene and many other things would lack here.

Up north you should check up on Sosua,Caberete (if you are in for surfing),Puerto Plata etc.... Many cheap good hotels (mostly the socalled resorts) can be found here, starting form 20-25 US $ a DAY with all food. Only problem will be: THEY DO NOT ALLOW GUESTS.....!!!!!!!!!!
I have one good hotel for you run by a Dutch/Belgian couple.....very GF-friendly and not expensive. It's called the COCO HOTEL.
I stayed there 4-5 days back in 2002 and had good memories. The owner speaks english, spanish, german and dutch ofcourse....and could also arrange motocycles for rent,if you like that. He also is aware of the "scene" arround Sosua;-) He is a damn cool guy....when i was there he even lend me his jeep for an evening tour of the area!!! I think the pricings there are very cheap (20 bucks a day for a room). From a mongers point-of-view this place is just perfect.

http://www.cocohotel.com/

For SD area prices will be up even more. I allready got one good link from a fellow monger (Gladiator) on THIS very board:

http://www.hotelresidencia.com/

check it out NIBU. He told me in that area more such hotels are. Check out the SD section...for that.

Other problem will be your time of traveling Nibu: you go in january or february. At that time it's HIGH SAESON in the DR. (in fact also in most other SA holiday destinations) So prices will be UP for sure at that time. That is why you won't find anything decent for 10-15 bucks a day.....imho.

have fun!

Johan

Can anyone tell me the name of the resort that's located in DR where it's an exclusive sex resort? I remember seeing the report on Playboy TV. The girls are usually flown in from Europe and each person stays in their own bungalow with the girl. The girl stays with them for the entire duration of their stay at the resort. I believe there's only capacity for 4 or 5 people and the rates are something like $3,000 for a 3 night stay.

Thanks!

Taking A holiday in October. I'm not sure if I should go to the DR or go back to Amsterdam again. I've never been to the DR. Has anyone been to both places. Airfare is about the same for both destinations. Can I get any weed in the DR? Is there an abundance of girls to chose from in DR? Please help,

Any inforation is greatly appreciated. thank you.

Either Suckerville or Idiotland one of the two. You can find the same girls where you live for less than $1000 a day.

The two differences are the weather and drugs. Weather in DR in October 85 degrees F (29 celsius) Amsterdam in October? Its like 40 F (4 celsius) right? :(

Also Amsterdam is a very open free vacation place, the DR is very different!

Possessing a couple of those little "mota" cigarettes on the beach in La Romana could get you a one way ticket to "la bestia" (the beast). La Victoria National Penitentiary in Santo Domingo. If you can't bribe your way out of that prison in the first 30 days - they'll probably recover your body in one of the laundry dumpsters.

The better place to go? All depends on your vices mate.
be safe,

Hi Johnny euro,

I am dutch...so i think i know something about weed.(LOL) let me tell you there are some (illegal offcourse) weed planters down in DR. HOWever they have to pay off some police officers...if you know what I mean. And in most cases trhey are all dominican persons. IF a gringo would do this....be sure he would NOT planting those wonderfull plants for long.....
I know OUTSIDE SD area and also up north there are some suppliers.....but please DO NOT ask me names or whatever as I don't know them.

In Colombia on several occasions i was offered a very cheap portion of cocaine. However as I am totaly against THIS form of drugs i refused politely and quickly moved to another spot. People many times asked me if i had some weed, because they saw me rolling my own sigarettes with plain (dutch) tobacco.(so apparently they thought it was somekind of marijuana or stuff like that...) However i would NOT be that stupid to import weed into such countries!!!!!!!!!!!!;-) HELL NO!

Setting up a small holiday resort with some weed, some great chicas in an very free manner certainly would be a great thing to do. I am sure it would attract MANY Americans,Europeans and even local gentry to feast. However the legal problems you would encounter would be severe. And I don't want to end up in a DR prison.....

trust me......if weed (ie marijuana) would be legalised (like it should!!) I would be the first person to set something up like i mentioned above!!!!

Untill then.....if you go to countries like the DR,Brasil or wereever please be carefull. Even a simple (nature based!) cigarete with some weed inside can get you in a WORLD OF DEEP SHIT. And i don't mean the shit you can smoke.

So IF you realy can't do without weed......I would suggest go to Amsterdam.
Which IMHO is greatly overrated but that is another story.
OOOO and the wheater CAN be nice in october....i remember last year we had better wheater in october then we did in August....!! But then again it could be raining cats and dogs for WEEKS on October.....LOL.

Regards,

Johan.

Best herb in the world I tell you. A true miracle drug! I always get herb down in BC. 10 dollars worth will last u for a week if you smoke everyday twice a day on vacation. But you must know the right people. Front a tigre u trust(if thats truly possible) a small amount of money(10$s) with the promise that if he returns with an abundant amount of herb that he will be tipped well. How does this tie in to girls? Pleasure centers. All the girls drink and most smoke herb but are afraid to tell you for fear that you will look down upon them as drugees or worse yet, crack*****s! News Flash fellas! I have known some of the most gorgeous girls on the island to smoke herb and mix it with cocaine and some of the prettiest girls from the poorer barrios experiment with crack. Be careful! I DONT DO THAT. But herb creates a tranquility and heightened sensation while in the act.In addition you'll be stiff as a brick! No Pills needed! Guys if this is not something that you do at home, DO NOT TRY IT IN IN THE DR. It has been my experience that if the girl likes to smoke that 300-500 can be deducted of the tab with ease. So long as your alert and she's cheify (term for high) youd be suprised what can happen.
Johan, I defer to you. You are obviously the expert on Amsterdam, as I have never been. Someday I would like to go, and when I do I will pm you and ask you to take me on a guided tour.

That is a pretty scary thought though, when you think of it - Johan and Ford together on a tour of Amsterdam! Many women are going to be in trouble!! (lol) :D

Johan is of course correct - weed should be legalized, absoulutely! I don't see this happening anytime soon in the U.S. or in Latin America. Too much money can be made by "shaking down" tourists and looking for bribes and pay offs. If you want to indulge in a few "hits' stick to Europe.

When I was in Honduras I was told that every 2nd taxi driver could get you coke. "If you asked for one kilo, he'd bring you two just in case you or your date ran out thru the night.

I'm afraid Viagara and Cialis are the only drugs I take. I'm not a drug taker - but an ice cold Presidente beer on the beach is a different story!! :)

cheers,
