Uncle Goober should sit a little closer to get a good view of New Makati's door. I think a big blue truck appeared to block the B109's view tonight. NM was open as usual. But the night is still young.
Good one, Boarer.
But I was not out tonight. Well, not on Lockhart Road anyway. I was in Handlebar on Jaffe Road (one street over) , with a group of friends watching the rugby. That was after a day on the water: over to Tai Po for a great seafood meal and then a boozy and liesurely sail back to Aberdeen!
Sadly, I am a tired old fat man now. Am off home to watch a re-run of CSI and eat a delivery curry.
I did however get a PM earlier today from an eager young newbie to HK and will be buying him a beer in 109 next Saturday night. Along with 1234 (hopefully). If anyone else wants to join us, please just send me a PM.
Funny old world.
Cheers.
In February it will be raining cats and dogs. I usually stay in the Wharney or Novotel on Lockhart / Luard Road, it's right in the action and the breakfast is good at the Novotel. Cosmopoitan was the source of the SARS spread a few years back so have studiously avoided it. A little further afield is the South Pacific Hotel in Morrison Hill Road, a short tram ride away and a bit nicer. I pick any of the three based on the dollars for a room and if has wifi etc. The Empire is OK too, but a litle tired, Wesley (yes it's owned by a church) is also good and GF of course, got to breed givers to the plate. But Hong Kong is more xpensive than BKK or MNL, but the costs of the girls living and getting to Honkers is higher also.
Think you will find the wi-fi Hotel in Lockhart Road, Wanchai. Just down from Villa Victoria is good value. And a 5 minute walk from the action.
Are you sure the SARS outbreak started in the Cosmopolitan. I thought it was the Metropark over on the Kowloon side. Have stayed in the Cosmopolitan and the Cosmo next door. Only slightly out of the way but not bad value and both GF although sometimes a guy checks you in as you enter the elevator at the Cosmopolitan. South Pacific is good as well but hate that walk of shame there!
Don't overlook the Charterhouse round the corner in Wan Chai Road. I stay there often although it too is a bit tired but being refurbished bit by bit. Am staying at the JJ Hotel further along the road on the advice of a previous forum post I read here and it gets good reviews on the internet. Will report back in due course.
Good to read from UG below that New Makati still alive and kicking. Was there ever any doubt?
Jack,
Thanks for clearing up the misinformation. You beat me to the punch. Yes it was the Metro park. But the Wanchai branch. Was there last weekend. And busy seems to be going well.
-
Sorry
I was confused. SARS allegedly started in Metro park. Kowloon Branch. And Swine Flu at Metropark wanchai Branch. From memory the Swine Flu was brought in by a traveller from Mexico. It was at the beginning of the world-wide epidemic. And metro Park was closed / isolated for 7 days. Apparently a working lady was stuck in the hotel with her client!

An unique bar. Which has no customers. And I mean no customers. Except on a Sunday afternoon when the guys from the motorbike club have a few beers.
Unsure how this bar makes money. Cosy little place that can seat 20 or 30. Good place if you want to be anonymous.

Handlebar
Except on a Sunday afternoon when the guys from the motorbike club have a few beers.
Yes, Chantik, that was the (self evident) start of the bar. As a home for bikers and in particular the HK chapter of the Mad Dogs.
But these days, the MDs hardly use the place at all, even on a Sunday.
The bar is a lot busier these days than when seemingly you last visited. My group are regulars there.
Cheers.

Empire hotel wanchai- GF
Hi
Any one knows about the empire hotel at wanchai, is it gf, clean and rate wise.
Is it close to action, or any other better hotels at the same / less expensive price with similer standards.
All inputs will be highly apprecated, and all of you may expect some nice reports and photos as I have done in the manila forum few weeks back.

Empire Hotel Location

TMT
The Empire Hotel in Wanchai is about as "ground zero" to the action as is practical, located at the corner of Hennessey Road and Fenwick Street. I prefer staying at the very GF MetroPark Hotel directly across Fenwick Street from the Empire Hotel, purely because the rooms are more updated and I usually can snag a very good rate using their "American Express Deal" from their website. Both are an extremely short walk to more action than you can shake a stick at, but by being one block off of Lockhart Road you gain a small degree of a discrete entrance for coming and going. A deciding factor of convenience is that no taxi is required for retrieving your prize catch from the battlefield to your room, and the MTR is a very short stroll away. Some may argue that this location is too close to the "action", allowing an expected "LT" to suddenly go "ST" in order for her to return to the venues for an attempt at another hourly bridegroom or two. I have not personally experienced this, I guess it depends on how well you treat your lady and how much you have discounted her expected remuneration. Good Luck. Looking forward to your posting.

Relatively safe sex = use condom.
Everything else: risky
Hospital: expensive

Think the mad dogs now go to Splash. Which is next to the old laguna.

Mad Dogs
Think the mad dogs now go to Splash. Which is next to the old laguna.
MDs used to go to Splash when it was Bull & Bear. Then the owners ruined the place by turning it into the Village, and now changed again to Splash.

Trip to hk
Hey everyone!
I'm going on a trip to Xiamen transferring HK in Nov. I'm staying at the Marriott Skycity at the airport on Lantau.
Since I will only have a short overnight stay I wondered, if anyone knows any place near the airport for good hunting?
Or knows a wg who services Lantau / airport area?
Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Cheers.
And I believe that the Village had some GWAILO investors who were burnt. Got out quick. And then it was remodelled into Splash. Don't think the business levels are the same as when Splash was Bull and Bear.
