That was short and very good
You are right. Business basics should be a required course in school, however it should also be taught to politicians. There are some facts that you left out of your comparison of UPS to the Postal Service.
1. The 1973 Postal Reorganization Act mandated that the Postal Service would no longer be a governmental department.
2. As a "quasi" federal agency it is required to provide its own funding.
3. The Postal Service receives NO subsidies from the government! In other words NO TAX DOLLARS!
4. Every aspect of the Postal Service is regulated or controlled by the government.
5. Universal service is mandated. (If a branch or station is not making money it cannot be closed without permission from so-called politicians.
6. The Postal Service does not provide just one type of delivery (ex UPS and packages).
7. The Postal Service has some of, if not the lowest rates in the world.
What business do you know of that could survive under these type of restrictions? Definitely not UPS. (Perhaps you do not know it but they do not deliver on Saturday and they do not deliver everywhere. People are up in arms because the Postal Service wants to do the same.)
I am now getting off my soapbox. . I apologize for boring some of you.
I will be short as possible also too many people just listen to radio personalities and just repeat what they hear from them and never realizing they and the radio and talk show hosts are not in the same economic class. These guys do not want anyone making a decent wage and they think the postal workers make too much money. You do need a middle class or you become a Brazil and that is what is shrinking in the USA. It's the middle class guy that if he is doing well making a decent wage that up grade and buys the new car, takes his family to disney world, eats out more and a lot of other things that support buisness and the economy.
Middle class people buy the goods and services much more than poor people.
Ok enough of that I will be back in Santo in may and will give some reports.
Can we please leave politics off this thread?

Yes maybe because they had no where to go but up
BTW, Brazil has one of the fastest growing middle class demographics in the world but I will post this in politics.
They still have a very huge gap so its all relative but believe me for a nation that big and basically energy sell sufficient they have a small middle class. Its a good thing that you say they have a growing middle class but in reality they have a lot growing to do as far as middle class.
