You can walk any direction away from the Del Rey to avoid the preditors who hang out outside the Del Rey.

Those predators - we will call them - since you offered the term do not have your best interests at heart.

Those type guys - and yes this is a generalazaztion or stereotype are usually "working" that area for other purposes - and those will include trying to sell you dope, or sex inhancement pills like Viagra or Cialas, or perhaps they would like to take you on 'wild goose type rides' to outlaying strip clubs, where they will no doubt walk you into the door - introduce you to the doorman - so that they can get their 'cut' of what you will spend in the club that evening. These are all well known but avoidable scams, and I can not for the life of me understand why the management of the Del Rey Hotel lets this BS continue to go on - but the hustlers continue their work outside the doors of the Del Rey - 24/7 - and have been at it since perhaps that hotel opened it's doors.

It is a real bummer to have to put up with all that crap from those hustlers, and for me anyway it kind of r'uins the deal'

In general avoid any guy(s) who comes up to you outside the Del Rey Hotel offering you 'god knows what'....they are all hustlers and and do not have your 'best interests in mind'.

Just walk down the block for 50 or so yards and hail a passing taxi. Simply stand at the curb and hold your hand up in the air. If they are empty and looking for a fare - they will stop for you. Then quickly tell the driver where you want to go, and ask him the fare....either flat rate or ask him to run his meter. If you think his quoted rate is too high, then tell him 'no thanks' and step back to the curb and hail another passing taxi. They pass by this location about every 30 seconds or so - so you won't have any problem in getting one to stop for you......unless it is rush hour...then they may mostly already have fares and then they simply do not stop for you.

If your Espanol is a little lacking - then hopefully you will find a taxi driver that speaks some English.

Really don't worry too much about any of this - as you will catch on quickly as soon as you get there and experience it a few times -

I run across these types in other countries. Avoid eye contact. I also speak a Middle Eastern Language ( Not Arabic) which tends to turn them off when they tug at your shirt tails.

Great idea.....I sometimes say a few phrases in French - and always tell them - "no Ingles" or "no Espanol" - depending upon the circumstance - when they annoy me on the street. As you said that pretty much 'stops them in their tracks' - if they think you don't understand a word they are saying.

Personally I speak to all street touts in imitation Bulgarian but those touts were not around when I was there in I believe it was 2002. Bummer. I think I'll come back in 2010 anyway and see how it's changed.

What happens if you accdentally get a chica pregnant while mongering on vacation from the states?

Can the chica track you down in the states?

If you return to Costa Rica years after the incident, and still don't know, can she haul you off to the policia/authorities?

I would say she'd have to prove it first. I mean, it highly unlikely that you were the last person she had been with considering that most working girls may see 2-3 punters in one day. And let's not forget her live-in boyfriend or pimp.

To make a long story short: the burden of proof lies with her. I'm sure if it gets too in depth that paternity tests could be done and probably would be far less expensive than if done in the States.

If she won't agree to one then it probably means she was just joking around with you :)

there are lots and lots of farmacias - all over san jose. you can hardly walk a block in the business district without bumping into one or two of them. walk around and stop into a few of them and 'do some comparative shopping' for the 'stuff' you want.

one specific farmacia that i have bought the viagra pills in - is directly across the street from the morazon hotel on the north/south street that goes to the morazon park. i can not remember the exact price i had to pay - but i do think i purchased some there - so it must have been a reasonable price.

they almost all carry genuine viagra, cialis, and such drugs, as well as the generic pills. i like the generics for the low price........

i tried some of the generic cialis on my last trip - i bought a couple of them just to try them - but did not see any difference in them from the generic viagra - but yet the cialis cost perhaps 3 times more than the generic viagra.

i like to buy the generic viagra and usually get the 50 mg dose which i feel is right for me. some guys opt for the 100 mg dose - but i think that is too heavy for me... the 100 mg dosage tends to make me light headed and somewhat dizzy after......so it sort of scared me - as i thought i was having some sort of bad reaction from taking the higher 100 mg dose.


anyway the generic viagra is cheap, and there is no prescription needed to purchase it in costa rica.

best bet -
ask for the generic viagra - then ask if there are any 'two for one specials" - where you get a 2 pill pack but only pay for one pill.....or the 4 pill pack - which seems to be a very popular size.

the specific name for generic viagra is - sidenafil calox or sidenafil citrate - and i believe these two pills are exactly the same.

i have found the 50 mg generic viagra for about $ 1.60 -$ 2.00 per pill before - in many drug stores in san jose.

the touts outside the del rey will be selling it for $ 10.00 to 20.00 per pill.....but you know they are crooks- so stay away from them.

on my last trip this last october i bought about 20 of the 100 mg viagra pills because the 50's were not available at my first stop.....later i found some 50 mg viagra pills in a different store- so i told a couple of the touts i had them, and would sell them ( the 100 mg's) and did sell them my remaining stock to them (which i felt were too strong for me) for about $ 4.00 per pill.......so i made a buck or two off them.....and naturally they would be reselling them for the higher price - but i simply wanted to get rid of them at that point.

shop around for them (the pills) as the price will fluxuate from one farmicia to the next. the $ 1.60 to $ 1.75 price - per 50 mg dose is perhaps the cheapest that i have found in san jose.

if all you can find is the 100 mg dose - then you can easly break this pill in half and only take half at a time.

in smaller towns in costa rica you may have to pay more for them.

also i shopped around for them in panama city and found that the asking price there was double or more for the same pill as was the going price in costa rica. so naturally i waited until i got back to costa rica to purchase my needed supplies.

i have brought quite a few - say 25-40 of these viagra pills back with me on the flight from cr to the usa, and have never been asked about them or had any problems with customs on them.......although rush limbaugh the tv personality did get caught entering the country (us) with some of them - and he got busted for it....but in general i do not think you should have any problem bringing some of them back with you to the us......worst case scenario would be that they would perhaps confirep001e them at customs, but i doubt that you would face any criminal charges for that.....but again i am not advising you to do that - you will be on your own with that- should you get caught.

Thanks once again Steve for the information. I've also found that 100mg is too much and takes me longer to "bust" (this may have also have been because I was taking "La Pela" (DR's version of Cialis) and 100 mg viagra in tandem; not knowing the difference between the two, lol!) so all the 100mg Viagra's I've ever had I just bite in half (don't have a pill spliter) and it seems to be enough.

I think I am going to give Cialis a try this go around as they are supposed to remain in effect for 24hrs.

I believe that Cialis is supposed to be effective for up to 36 hours, but for the greater difference in price over the generic viagra - I just can not justify paying the much higher price.

I believe if you are drinking while using the sexual inhancement pills that will also have an effect on you too.....but I am not a drinker so can not swear to that.

Good luck, and shop around for your best deal on the drugs of your choice once you get to CR.....I am sure you will easily find what you need.

I have always brought lots of leftover Viagra back from the DR without any problems. I just put it in the luggage that goes under the airplane. Anyone who's ever had to go through customs at MIA International knows that they don't F around. But I have brought back V twice to the states without any problems. And I don't have a prescription either.
