Good deal based on which decade? Lets face it, the times are changing in Buc. As the Euro gets closer and closer, prices for "goods for foreigners" or the wealthy are going up, up, up.

Prime example, I was seriously thinking about purchasing a few apartments on Floresca. Based on location and size, I'd have been forced pay around $200,000 to $300,000 for the same thing in the states. When I had spoke with the owner in December of 2003, she was asking for $25,000 a piece. I come back in March of 2004, and now she's talking in Euro's and 35,000 euros at that ($43,000). Now how in the world does a piece of land increase in price by $20,000 in 3 short months?

In the past flying to Buc from the states on American Airlines ALWAYS involved an additional carrier. Usually either Tarom, BA, or Lufthansa from Heathrow, Paris, or Frankfurt. When I flew back to Buc in May, American Airlines is now running code shares with both BA and AF straight into Buc.

Foreign business as well as Romania's citizens are realizing the business opportunities and are, as expected, capatalizing on it.

High class Romanian women know that they can charge $200-$300 and get away with it.

A) It's more money than their working-stiff friends make in a whole month, so why not try. Even with one date in a whole month they've got it made.

B) They know non-Romanians pay that amount anyway from where they/we come from (USA, UK, Germany.)

C) It keeps the bums looking for $5 blowjobs away.

Understandable, but I assure you, and it is quite obvious, that the "American Tourist" neither fully supports nor is excited to see prices going up. Why in the hell would I want to pay $100 for something I could have had last week for $50? The problem lies not only with the "American Tourist," who is happy and willing to pay so much/little, but with the working girls who is willing to ask so much/little. Seriously, is it the "American Tourist's" fault for thinking that $150 for the night with a Romanian girl is a deal when he'd pay $300 for an hour back home, or is it the Romanian girls fault for taking advantage of the situation? Germany accounts for 5%, Italy and Asia 2 1/2% each, and UK and France match USA with 1/6th of a percent (Moldova accounts for 21%, but something tells me that a majority of these visitors are not coming to RO for sex). The EU accounts for 14% of travel to Romania. That leaves us with four scenerios.

1)Western Europeans don't have it as bad as they think when it comes to quality pussy (read "they are setting the price, not the americans.)

2) Only a small percent of Romanian girls are asking "American Tourist" prices.

3) An insanely huge percentage (like 90+%) of these American tourists pay for sex while there, and multiple times with several different girls. (We'd have to do something drastic, otherwise our meager 1/6% would never be able to compete with the EU's 14%).

We all have our own opinion on how to spend our money and who to spend it with. I am sure you and others could talk endlessly about how us "American Tourists" are changing the scales and setting prices too high. I think Roger Mellie said it earlier that this is an extremely ugly city, especially for a capital. That is so true as I've been to over 75% of them. Truth be told, it looks just like Mexico City or Guatemala City -- dusty, disrepair everywhere, smoggy cars broken down everywhere, heavy Latin influence. From what I saw (again, with the qualifiers above), the locals do not compare favorably in any category to women you see in the Slavic states (Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus). They don't dress nearly as well and are five or ten pounds heavier on average. I'm not sure they're as smart, either.
