Bangkok in this case but it will do little or nothing for expats and experienced Thai visitors but may be helpful to newbies coming here for the first time. I nothing about Rio, but certainly all the Thailand scams I watched in first video or so are real and quite realistic of what goes on and useful education for newbies. It does not claim that you personally have been caught by all of them or that someone will fall for all of them within 2 days. They knew where to find them well enough. I certainly have experienced a Patpong bar trying to charge me far too much many years ago. I told them to call the police and just refused to pay more than roughly the correct amount. They gave up and I got away with no more than a shove. I have experienced a similar scam in both Hong Kong and in London Soho over paying for unwanted Hostess time or super priced Hostess drinks. I refused to comply in all cases.
I have not been robbed in Thailand either, except by forgetting my bag briefly it a department store and it was gone, or when a policeman stopped my taxi and took from me half a pill he thought was suspect. Scams are possibly a greater danger to the non-skeptic newbies.

The scams are definitely valid however it was apparent that during his tenure in these places they were all staged for the purpose of the show. They definitely tried me and a few wingmen once at the upstairs sex show in Patpong. As I reported back then I had known better than to go up there thanks to the forum, but my wingmen insisted. It was all well and good until we tried to leave and they insisted that we pay them 400 baht for each Heineken. After a bunch of cursing and shouting back and forth it didn't turn out how they thought it would. We probably ended up giving them 400 baht total for the four beers.
I've never been fool enough to even look in the direction of a gem shop. When people visiting ask me about buying gems in Thailand I tell them I know nothing about gems so I wouldn't even attempt it. There are bargains to be had in the Los Angeles jewelry district if an American is in the market for gems. When I got married my wife and I bought our rings from there. Mine was 1ct diamond and hers 2.5. I paid $2400 for them and brought them home and had them appraised for $8000.

I, like a few other guys here on the forum, put value on good looking women. A pretty face and sexy body adds to my level of overall satisfaction. I could not be happy with a girl I did not find attractive. But what kind of girl I take on a particular night depends on what I am up for. It varies.
