The Red Fox is an ex-pat hang-out bar. Many of them smoke weed. It's still a chill place to smoke. Things have changed in Phnom Penh. Smoking weed is not as open as it was previously. Many bars, especially along the riverside, frown on people smoking weed in public. The tuk tuk / moto drivers will still sell you weed, but they try to hide it. The Red Fox bar will also sell you joints, but it's horrible quality. Slightly better is available along the riverside (check around the Happy Pizza places by FCC).

Day 16 Friday March 14,2014 Phnom Penh Day 5 (Last Night):

I had my usual complimentary muesli with fresh fruit, coffee, and orange juice at the Corner Restaurant for breakfast. Then I walked along the riverfront. I'll be back in PP Dec11th to Dec16th. Been there plenty of times before with a break from 2009 to 2013, last time Dec 2013. I had noted that things have changed considerably compared to the old days.

A couple of questions if you do not mind:

First, does anyone know a good and girl-friendly hotel? I had stayed in the New York Hotel during my last trips and was always satisfied. Girl friendly and working internet, room safe and no hassles. Still I would like something with a pool, since mongering starts about 8 pm LOL. Any recommendations?

I had tried Bougainvillier and Phnom Penh Hotel before, can not recommend either one. Interconti sucks as well and is too far off MaoTseTung.

Second, where to go? Martini's was still good and Walkabout only on weekends. Number of Bars on 136 had exploded but I found them mostly empty even late. Annoying to go in and have a half dozen greedy gals all over.

Third, prices? I suppose 35 to 50 $ is the going rate now (ok with me), but some gals demanded 100 $ and up while looking actually less than average.

Fourth, where have the mamasans gone? They used to be all over Martini and sometimes were convenient to use since they knew what I liked and kind of warranted the girl would keep up with their promises. Any mamasans still around, and if so, where?

Fifth, Tuk-Tuk: What's the going rate per day? I always used Hen but HE moved to Siem Reap (always a real honest guy and OUTSTANDING). HE recommended a guy who recommended a guy who was ok, but very limited English and did not knew much.

I hadn't been in town long enough last Dec to really follow the action trail, since also my former trusty Tuk-Tuk driver Hen was no longer available-a GOOD driver is areal asset there.

As far as hotel recommendations: Lux Riverside Hotel is a very good cheap GF hotel and the Riverside Suites is a very good not so cheap GF place.

Bars: Cyrcee Club is still around and worth a look see. Go early. Rose, Oasis and Colonial are good. Check out the FL scene later in the evening around Street 51: Golden Sorya and Pontoon. Darling Darling for high quality / expensive FL's.

If you have a question about a specific hotel policy email them and ask. You are right, many of the boutique PP hotels rated high in TripAdvisor are not friendly. Forget them.
