I've been reading back through the forum but there seems to be a limited number of recent detailed reports on the general situation in Athens.

Can anyone provide us an update us please? I'm considering a trip.

Fillis Street: Is this still the main center of activity? Average quality and ages? Nationalities? Prices? I have seen some crazy media stories about plummeting prices but it's hard to know what is true and what is fiction.

Where are the safest places? Are there any clubs where one can choose from girls in the bar?

Its better to start walking from Omonia square to Monastiraki square throu Athina str.

After some meters at your right you will start understand that. "something" going on.

I arrived yesterday to the city and I really like it. I don't think a greater percentage of those Western European and North American guys are carrying STDs than the local Greek male population. Not sure what you meant by health and safety reasons?

Logic would tell me that the local Greek johns are concerned about guys from countries that have not suffered as much from the economic collapse bidding up the price, and given that Greece is not a particularly hobby-friendly place anyway, the local brothels are concerned that if foreigners bid up the price, those local johns will retaliate by causing their closure.

It explains why most of the Athens reviews on the other English-language review sites are mostly from the relatively more expensive Russian escort agencies that always have providers in Athens. Those agencies are not viewed as a threat by the local John population, and at least some of money spent (primarily by foreigners and by wealthier Athenians) on the Russian hookers is then spent by those hookers in Athens on hotel rooms, food and shopping.
