Are there truly non smoking bars in Bangkok. Shanghai "banned" smoking inside public places, but many bars and restaurants installed large windows the open next to the sidewalk and provide seating next to the open windows. Sorry Pg, the Beer Gierten has closed and I suspect it has gone forever. Walking from Sukhumvit you pass the newer Soi 7 venues, which in my opinion are a very tame replacement before you get to where the Beer Gierten was.

However, I recall still seeing a 'beer garden' sign during my last visit in December, so it may still exist in some reduced capacity.

The bars on the soi are better than the ones in the back. There are some cute girls there, but not that many. The back looks mostly dead most times I've seen it.
