The best answer I can give you is that at night when you go out be clean shaven, nice pair of jeans and a shirt that fits you. Don't wear sneakers! Look decent and wear your weight well and you will be fine. Try to practice your spanish! I suck at it and can only string a couple words together at a time but at least I can pick up some and ask some basic questions. Try to find a girl that actually has some interest in you, I have always done this and almost always had great sessions. Don't just try to get the best looking girl in the club without having any chemistry whatsoever. These girls are a much different beast then say Sosua or Puerto Plata girls that practically throw themeselves at you, its nothing like that, the girls in Colombia have a higher sense of class then other countries. I have seen them tell guys no they would not go with them, which you would never see in Sosua. So just follow what I said and you will be fine. Don't look like a slob! Hope this helped.

Regardless of all this hearsay I have always had a good time in Colombia, and I always try to connect with a girl that likes me. The dollars were always 2nd.

You said your spanish is weak, I remember my pre-spanish days compared to my now very good-spanish days, it's a whole different world, exponentially better with the communication.

And with my really cool personality to boot, hahaha, unbelieveable.

Hi there, I'm thinking about taking my first trip to Cartagena (in fact, to South America) , planning a 2-3 week holiday, in April or May. Want to stay somewhere on the beach which won't break the bank ($300+ per night is out of the question). Don't need 5 star luxury; but want a clean, safe, reasonably pleasant place (for the times when I want to just chill and read etc; don't want a depressing place) which will not charge me something outrageous (or even anything) if I want to bring a girl to my room. Something with facilities like a pool and / or gym would alo be nice, but might be too much to ask for. Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated!

My only mongering experience has been in the Philippines and that seemed a different animal than Columbia simply by reading the reports here. 98% of the girls in the Philippines are ready to go with you, in spite of physical appearance.

I can say that even in the Philippines I practiced the rules above. I always go for chemistry over looks. Just my style. I've never had a bad time either.

Yea everything seems to fall into place for me. Its funny, but I am real easy going and always have a good time. I never take myself to serious and it works for me. I try to give people as much info into my escapedes as possible with the thought of helping them if they take one of these trips.

I have always tried to post trip reports because I always remember when I was doing one of my first trips and I searched the internet and found various sites and for the most part people were really helpfull.

So I have always tried to give back, sometimes I will have been out drinking and log on and say some stupid stufff but for the most part I try to be as helpful as possible.

This next trip I am going to try to take many pictures and post them to show the various places and things in Cartagena.

As always when going out there are all kind of variables, thats what I love about traveling you never no who you will meet or how it will work out, I have had some great times traveling both fun and dangerous. But I am still hanging in there!

[url]www.thelocogringo.com[/url] It is on the Laguito beach. It is plenty quiet and dark in the bedroom. Rates are 100 a night. You could stay here a few nights then maybe longer if you like it. You guys familiar with Bbrocs 2 bedroom Lleras apartment is is almost exactly the same as that with a big 8 foot patio on 2 sides. Spacious as hell you could have a few friends over no problem, big living room, dining room, kitchen, big tvs in the bedroom and living room, couches new and comfortable, the a /c was more than ample, hot water worked fine. My only complaint was the maid didn't show up each day to renew the towels. Security at the front desk checks the ID of girls that look younger than 18, there is a beach gate that opens from the beach by day that goes right to your apartment. It is less than 50 feet to the nearest store, right across from the LDV, easy walk to Playa Hollywood, you can rent jet skis right in front of your apartment and is alot more private that some of the other buildings in Laguito where every taxi driver and doorman hollers out your name.
