I think we lost track of the initial conversation, which was that Oakie said he found a novia. My only question was that if he and she decided to get married and he took her back to the States, then why are we to assume that it wouldn't work? She's not expected to have to hook any more, else he probably wouldn't marry her to begin with.

Back home, she has choices in education, jobs and can probably find a guy to marry who will be faithful to her, or at least discreet. If she turns out on the street she deserves to be called all those terrible names some use here.

Down there she has no education, maybe a serving job, which if she's pretty, she will be expected to give it up to the boss. Even then it's not a reasonable living wage. With no education, she's hard pressed to find a Dominican husband who will retain interest in her after she's 21, or dropped a bambiono or two. So her choices are limited to say the least.

If the best rate I could get at Terra Linda was $69 for a queen bed, or worse, $89 for the rooms with a king or 2 queens, I would have stayed at El Rancho, which is also new, and was asking $45 a night. But I'm not surprised that Terra Linda has raised their rates. I knew that they would once they started filling up.

They were definitely trying to do anything to get things jump started. When I was there several weeks back, it was $55 a night.. but anything over a one week stay was $45 a night. They were still about 1/3 occupancy, while the New Garden was full.

It's all word of mouth and regulars that make the difference I think.
