everyone is gonna have their own thoughts about what it means for HELP to be closing, personally, I hate to see it happen. I am gonna try my hardest to get down there, before the final date comes for its closure.
Chris H
I agree. Personally for me this is terrible news. Help has gone through a few down years, but it is a uniquely large and interesting club that was usually fun for the evening. It brings in tremendous dollars into the economy of Copacabana and Rio. The economic impact will be big. I doubt another club of this size and legend will come along for a long time.
I think the biggest draw back to Help closing, is that it will be extremely difficult to locate the new girls now. I know over the years, I have been fortunate to catch many girls on their first week in Help (A few of times, I got girls on their very first night in Help, brand new to the business). New working girls tend to stand out inside of Help, just as much as new tourists.
Now if the girls are forced to be spread all over Copa, your chances of catching a new girl are slim and none.
Don't you just love it when you catch a newbie in helpe. Ones that ask me after fucking then 4 times how much I want to pay them. And are shy.

Potential
Only thing I disagree with you on, is the potential income of the new museum. What museum makes 15 million a year? Especially a museum in Rio!! They will probably make more like 1 million a year, if that!!
According to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), about 5.7 million tourists have visited Brasil in 2007. That's an average of 16 000 arrivals per day. A number that given the fantastic tourism potential should logically grow in the post-crisis years. Brasilian authorities have for that matter made of tourism one of their top-ten priorities by launching the second phase of the "Aquarela Plan" (O Plano Aquarela, a marketing plan to increase the flow of tourists to Brasil), which began in 2005. The goal being to double inbound tourism before 2020 and to place Brasil, now 38th, in the top-twenty world's top tourism destinations. An ambitious plan but IMO doable.
It's not abberant to state that 90% of those 12 millions tourists expected each year will visit Copacabana, THE vitrine of Brasil. Now how many of them will visit the museum ?
I'd bet on 10/15 %. Plus the national tourists. Plus the locals (school visits, ect). That makes a lot of people. And at maybe us$10 the ticket, a lot of money.
Are you talking about blond Paola? Fake boobs, nice butt. Speaks no english?
My problem in help is that I always drink champagne in there. Will spend 600r on drinks in a night. Big bottle is 80r. Small 15r. I drink straight out off a big bottle. But alot off women want to give me a high quote because I spend alot on drinks. But I am a buisness man. I would raither go home alone, knowing I can hit then termas the nexy day, that give a ***** anything over 300r. Helpe is my drinking time. And partying time. If the right women comes along for the right price, then it is fun. But if a women want's over 300r. I will spend 200r on drinks on her. (that's fun, buisness is buisness) I would rather go home alone. In my experience a women who wants to extort you is always a dud. In Rio in 10 days for a month.
Helpe every night.
I say that in the end, Help Will stay open, but the new owers of the establishment will be the Brazilian government.
Rio state government holding a brothel ? .. what have you been smocking and where can I get some ?
For your information Brasil is a conservative country. There are some 4 millions born-again-Xtian evangelists in the only State of Rio de Janeiro. That's about 35% of the voters. A fantastically powerful political force, which grows every day. And those people vote exactly as their preachers tell them to : for "morality".
Make no mistake guys : Help closure is just the first step of a DEEP cleaning of Copacabana. And IMO Vila Mimosa could follow.

This is the argument the owners have be making for a long time to try and defend themselves. Help is a Discotech; Plain an simple. There are not rooms, there is not sex on-sight, and they don't advertise as a termas. So yes, the government can own the land and lease it back to the current operatertors.

Rockstar Life At Help!!!
I agree with JohnnyBraz. I love living the rockstar lifestyle of Rio on a semi realistic budget. I too love the VIP tables, the champagne, and the women. I don't spend that much, but I do usually pound through 3 or 4 bottles of Chandon at R60 a bottle plus beers and H2O which puts me over R300 a night. Where in the US could you do this for $135? Answer A. No Where. If Help does close I will be one of the ones that really miss it. Even though I only pulled out 2 girls in 10 days there this trip, I still visited Terraco Atlantico almost every night just to have a drink and take in the sights. To me, sometimes sitting outside can be as fun as going inside. I've met countless fellow mongers over the years and made many friends there. After talking to a bunch of people about it yesterday before I left, I don't believe Help will close. I hope not anyway. Like some of you guys were talking about the other day, I got home, took a nap, then found a $600 flight from NY to Rio for June 7th giving me something to look forward to. Hopefully they'll still be a Help then....

Too bad!
If Help is really closing this time I think it will be sad day. There is no place in the world like Help. I know that it has become kind of cool for some guys on this board to bash Help and the girls that go there but I think it is sad that is is closing. This is an end of an era. If Help opens somewhere else it is not likely to be the same. I doubt that it will be better. There are some cool girls that go to Help. There are some incredibly hot girls that go to Help. There are some beautiful girls that if you treat them right will take you home, f*ck you all night and cook you breakfast the next mourning.
I like Help. Some of my best memories of Rio and Brazil have happened either in Help or as a result of going to Help. I liked it the first time I went there and I liked it when I was there two weeks ago. I agree with the criticism that it is not as good as some prior years but it is still a really cool place. I like listening to music, I like watching beautiful women and I especially like watching not so beautiful women taking advantage of drunk guys. I have always thought that if more guys paid better attention to the girls they would be able to tell which girls would not provide good service. I like the "art of the deal". I loved the negotiation.
The Termas of Brazil a different than other places in the World but I have seen similar operations in other countries. I like the Termas because I love to be anywhere where there are Brazilian women in in bikinis. I will still go Rio and if need be I will spend more time in the Termas. As you all know that is not a bad thing.
I will miss Help. I think that once it is gone more people will appreciate what it provided. I am glad I will be back twice in the next 60 days!

I totally agree with you Watchman. I love the idea of walking into a full blown nightclub where you can dance, drink champagne, and take home a smoking hot woman. Even though my last Help encounter was probably my worst, I met one of my favorite Brazilian garotas 3 years ago, and although she's doing her thing in Switzerland right now, we still stay in contact. I still don't believe it's gonna happen so I won't get all nostalgic yet....

Even if there were no *****s in there I would still go there most nights in Rio. By night time I would have done 4 or 5 women in the daytime. It's my Rio night time retreat. I have had a few women where I have paid for the first night then not for the next few nights. I have had duds. (always women over 300r. Which keeps me now strict to the 300r max rule). I have travelled alot (still early 30's) but would say help is the best nightclub in the world. I will really miss this place. But lucky I arrive in 9 days time for a month long off helpe.

Well if it really does happen, it would be on a year like this one with the global economic crisis pushing the city govt. and Help's owners to make a decisive move, as opposed to the usual yearly overtures and rumors that go nowhere.
Maybe the guys that have been to Help recently and also in previous years can compare and give us an idea if there's been a significant drop-off in attendance.

I was there for the last 10 days and Help is pretty much the same. It's still tough to get a table out front between 11pm and 1am, the club during the week is a little slower then I remember it, but not by much. Saturday was one of the busiest, best nights I've seen in a while however I remember the days when both sides were packed, not just the club side. If there is a drop off, it's small and they're more then making up for it by increasing there cover charge(Now R28 before midnight and R38 after) and the restaurant prices out front which have shot up substantially from last year. The people that run Help definitely aren't running short on cash.

Cuatro Por Cuatro
So I wanted to post about this while I was in Rio but I forgot. I got to see some of the inner workings of 4X4 and man does that place run like a well oiled machine. Forget what everyone sees out front, they have 4 people whose only job is washing sheets, towels, and robes, another two women folding, and yet two more packaging the robes and towels. God knows how many room attendants they have. They have 3 different rooms where pairs of guys were doing hair and make up, and on the top floor, they have the "General Store" where the girls can spend the Reals they make on anything from vibrators to Victoria's Secret Lotions. I was amazed to see how many people they employee and how seemless their operation flows. Somebody is making a shitload of money out of that place.
