I would hardly ever disagree with the GOAT and tend to lean on his side here. I've got almost 30 years of Thermae and it used to be a party zone. There used to be a cop that worked there, remember him Goat? Younger guy with the high and tight? But they arent interactive anymore, and don't party, probably because its all Chinese and they don't know how to party with girls like 50 farangs do, and there are times I'm the only farang in the place.
I have no problem getting what I want, and if maybe their performance is not the same as it was during the old days, neither is mine.
Yeah, I remember that dude, we nicknamed him Siam Johnson, and also the older cop that used to walk around occasionally. On the rare times I stop by it's always good to say Hello, to Somchsi, he was always the one that waited on us. And he always asks about my older friend who moved back to the States several years ago. I probably had more fun in there than any place in Bangkok save midnight before it was bought by the Arab and Cactus during its hey day. I really miss those days. You also had a collection of some of the most interesting expats in Bangkok. Many of the SE Asian writers who many of you have read would hang out there several nights a week. There would always be people you would recognize there.
If you were a regular many of the gals there with know exactly what you liked and what you wanted before you even went with them, because they all shared information about the denizens who frequented the place. It was kind of funny.
One of my favorite memories is this girl, I think her name was Bo. She was in her late twenties and one hell of a performer. She didn't come very often but when she did we just make eye contact and head out the door together. One night I walked in and she came up to me and said we're going tonight because I'm getting married tomorrow. I was like, okay. Had a wonderful sash. Didn't see her for about a year and then walked in and saw her sitting with a late middle-aged dude. She introduced him as her husband. We talked for a while and he said you have to come over for dinner one night, but you can't eat what you used to. We were both rolling on the floor.
It was really wonderful when they had the short time hotel behind Clinton plaza. I remember on several occasions a girl saying go with you and we headed out of Thermae to the ST hotel at Clinton and didn't exchange names until after the deed was done. And remember there used to be tuk-tuks parked outside? I'd roll out, jump into one, and they already knew the way home. A much different Bangkok.
I think it's fantastic that you can still find what you're looking for there, but also the scene tends to run a bit late for me these days. It's usually online or oilies for me late afternoon early evening, then a nice dinner somewhere with friends, followed by a feel really good craft beers and our usual place, then home by 10:00. The old man gets up pretty early to drag his butt to the gym.
