i'm patient and it's always the same choreography. show them your driver's license and the car's registration. i argue with them about whatever violation they say i committed. they insist, i deny. you ran the red, no i didn't. you were speeding, no i wasn't.

finally, we get to the fine, you have to pay xxx pesos. i always tell them, ok, let's go to the police station to pay. no, you can pay me here and save the trip. no, i want to go to your police station. after more back and forth, they will finally give up and go away. usually lasts no more than 5-10 minutes.

one night, i was taking an amiga home when they stopped us. i had a glass of baileys with me and we had both been drinking. unfortunately, she is a defense lawyer and lit into them which pissed them off and this went on for over a half an hour before they gave up. after dropping her off, i pulled an illegal u-turn on 27 de febrero on my way home and got stopped again. when the pn came to my door, i showed him the registration and my license, which were still sitting out and told him i had just got stopped. he laughed and said ok, no more you-turns and vaya con dios.
