Hope this the correct place to post this. Thinking of spending New Years in Cebu. Any suggestions of cool places to go or do on New Year's Eve?
RR,
I have spent New Years Eve (NYE) in Cebu and can provide you with some info. First if this will be your first trip to Cebu it is not really a good time to visit. The Philippines has a very close family structure and most if not all girls will stay at home and celebrate with family or go home to the province. If you have met the girl before most likely she will ask you to come to her home to spend New Years eve with them and that can be a good experience or a bear trap, again YMMV. If you choose to go to her house expect you will be hit on to provide the basics like a few cases of SM or red horse beer, a few bottles (or many) of tanduay, lechon baboy, lechon manok and the list goes on and on.
If you decide not to go to a girl's house for NYE your best bet will be to buy a ticket to a hotel party and there are lots to choose from. Most have a buffet menu and some kind of open bar. It is best to book one that is over-looking so you can watch the spectacular fireworks display that seems to go on and on for 30 mins around midnight. Crown Regency Fuente and Marco Polo hotels are two that will have great views.
The bar scene is hit or miss, but mostly miss as most of the families spend the night together. Around 1pm some of the younger crowd will excuse themselves from the family party and head for the bar to be with friends, but most are already very drunk well before midnight. Some bars around mango will announce NYE parties but again it is hit or miss.
The gogo bar scene is dead as alot of the girls go home to the province for the holidays and alot of the bars do not even bother to open but it depends on the bar.
Again if this is your first time in Cebu expect almost all the girls to tell you they will be ok to meet but between Christmas and a few days after NYE they will flake on you as family commitments will be the priority.

I was there last yr for Christmas and new year, it was my first, and only time, as, just about every bar and resto was closed. I had to go many places just to get some thing to eat, so I will not be going to Cebu at those times again, or if I do will book into Marriot, Marco Polo.

New Years Day
Memories come flooding back in. New Yars sucks in Phillipines, especially if you don't have something pre-arranged. I went expecting huge crowds, but boy was it dead!
Stay away.

New Years Day in Manila
Sorry Rob, it applies to Manila too. But if you are there, grab something quick and early. Havana or Burgos. I will be there this New Years Day. Trying to get something arranged.

I have been in the Philippines for a month now and every day is an adventure. Sometimes things don't work and other times everything falls into place. I have been coming here since 1981 when I was 26 years old. This is my 20th something trip in those years mostly 1 week sprints where I was banging as many girls as humanly possible. This time I am here for a good 6 months but my goals are the same. As I discussed earlier I look much younger then my age. To answer x-man's question every girl I meet I ask her to guess my age and the responses so far have been between 32-45. Nobody has guessed higher then 45. In fact I am 56 and my preferences are 18, 19 year old spinners. I love petite girls with pretty faces. If they had a baby, or smoke or have tattoo's I am not interested.
My first 2 weeks were spent in Manila but Cebu has always been my favorite destination. I have been here for 2 weeks now and Sunday was one of those good days. On Saturday I met a chat mate in Robinson's food court. I was floored when this stunning beauty entered with her ordinary friend. She is 5' 6'.110 pounds, just turned 18 in October. Definitely a head turner. In her first year of college she was in a beauty contest for her college. There were 47 entrants, she came in 2nd place. We had lunch and hung out at the mall for a bit when I took them back to their place. I offered to take her out later that night which she agreed to go but right before I was going to meet her she came up with the typical Filipino bullshit excuse that her mother was sick and she couldn't leave. Of course that took a hundred text messages, you guys know the deal. I figured this beauty wasn't interested and was ready to move on. That night at 1:00 in the morning which luckily had me alone at the time she texted me that she wanted to come over to my place. She came to my hotel and in about 5 minutes times we were banging away. Where else can one meet such an exquisite creature. After 3 intense sessions I bid goodbye to her in the late morning and in the early afternoon I ventured out into the streets of Colon where I stay. I met a 20 year old spinner who was dressed for action and had a quick session with her. She said she was in Colon because a good friend texted her to say she was fighting with her foreign boyfriend. However her friend was not answering her texts and calls so she was just hanging out. I gave her 700 p. And she promised that she had a lot of friends for play in her place so we exchanged cell numbers.
That night I hit the Waterfront casino where I play blackjack on their one blackjack table. There was a young Korean girl standing behind me with 5 100 pesos in chips. She was watching a few minutes so I told her to play a chip or 2 on my hand. She looked at me like I was crazy but after a few more minutes she dived in and won so she sat down next to me. I was able to start a conversation found out she was studying english there and then her friend came over and I had both of them playing on my hand. In a few minutes another of their friends came over. I stopped when I had a 5, 000 profit and they stopped at the same time. I wish I could tell you that these 3 cute korean girls came back to my hotel. I offered to buy take them dinner but they declined. I did give them my cell and well this is the Philippines so you never know. I did establish a good rapport with them, and if I bump into them again I think there is potential.
Since it was only about 9 o'clock and I had an extra 5, 000 pesos on me I figured I would hit a bar. I decided to try Hot Lips and bought a cute 19 year old a drink. In my many years of selecting a bar fine I always look for the freshest face. She met my requirements, no baby, no tattoos and she did not smoke. Plus she was smoking hot and was willing to go overnight for 2, 500. What the hell, I had an extra 5, 000 so I bar fined her and had a great time with this lovely girl who stayed with me until the early morning. The chat mate beauty is apparently already in love with me but tomorrow I head to the province where I have another chat mate who I am not interested in sexually but she needs money for school and I told her I would help her out if she set me up with some girls. Her text to me was "your wish is my command". Sounds promising so I had head out and continue the ever ending pursuit of beautiful female companions. Just another day in paradise.

It truly is an amazing country.

levdog, welcome to the filipines again!
where else can one meet such an exquisite creature. after 3 intense sessions i bid goodbye to her in the late morning
two years ago i met a chatmate for a drink. she's luscious, but very immature. she brought a friend (of course) , unannounced. i thought them both immature, and possibly ****. they wanted to go to another place, a disco, and off we went. after a bit i was sure i should dump her and head off. i thanked them for a lovely time, dropped two p500 notes on the table to pay for the drinks and told them to keep the rest. i walked out to the street, waiting on a taxi to come by. out walks this real head-turner who had been dancing on the dance floor with about 5 other head-turners. out of the blue she says,"me evelyn." i was dumbstruck. mid-20's, looking like a '9' to me. i almost was unable to talk."h-h-h-i" was what i muttered. its rare a girl's beauty stymies me, but it did. she stared at her shoes and asked me where i was going. i told her back to malate to bedrock bar."i heard it. its nice place maybe. i can come on you?" omg! stunning and wants to come on me! i cracked up, i think she meant to ask if she could come with me. she did. i said sure. she said "wait," and ran into the disco to grab her purse. that started a 4-day run with a stunner who had only seen me for a few minutes in a disco, left boldly to stay with me (a stranger) , and stayed for days without asking for money (i paid for appetizers and drinks several times for her friends. the group of foxes we kept going out with. a man could die happy). where the f*ck else does this happen? mahubay, again levdog, to pilipines!

Great post Levdog. Guess my age? I'm terribly sorry to bust your bubble but most Asians will subtract ten years in order to aovid any conflict or loss of face. It's their culture.
You probably figured that out on your own, but it makes for a good read anyway. Thanks for the report. X.

For you cebu regulars, is it best to avoid coming during the festival in Jan, I think it's 12th. 16th or something?
Is it too busy or is it not something that needs to be avoided?
Cheers

by the way, if you suspected she's a minor, weren't you afraid of getting busted? there's a philippine law stating that any adult in a room alone with an unrelated minor can be charged with statutory [CodeWord123]. you could have been set up for a sting. in your experiences in cebu, how worried should i be about being a victim of a sting?

cebu probably is safer than manila. but general rule is if somebody looks **** just avoid her to begin with. once she is in the room you are already screwed if it is a scam.

Cheers
You probably mean Sinulog usually held on the third Sunday of January but celebrations last the whole week. My advice is avoid like the plague I was there in January. There are plenty of posts on the subject if you search back, so I will not repeat what has been said many times by me and other members.

also, it seems the girl is more likely to extract a bribe or a bigger one if cops are involved. sure she can get p2000 on her own. but she can get p200000 with cops (she comes out wayyyyy ahead even if the cops take a cut).
granted, it seems **** scams are most prevelant in angeles and manila. there appears to be few reports of this kind of scamming in cebu. still, i'm the paranoid type.
how reliable is philippine id? i doubt colon street girls carry any id at all.
