My comments about Sosua is that Sosua is the ONLY puta town in the DR where an English speaking gringo can get off the plane and find an abundant amount of putas in a English friendly speaking town. There is no other town with street lined puta bars. Let's not confuse those who live there with those who visit.
My first trips to Sosua I would hang out at Lou's bar and speak English all day long. I always met another monger who spoke English and would help with translations. Most hotels had an English speaking person. Couple this with the most putas centrally located and Sosua is not going anywhere.
Sosua has not changed much in the last five years. Only thing different are different faces of the mongers. Every year a new crew graduates from high school and sooner or later some of them will be the new guys in town.
Maybe things have changed and because I don't visit Sosua anymore I am not aware of it. My last zip through Sosua I could probably count the number of regular tourists on one hand (I know most are locked in the AIs).
One major change I have seen in Sosua is the amount of chica friendly hotels. Quite a few hotels that five years ago were not chica friendly now welcome the monger and his chica. Everything in Sosua is geared around the monger and his money.

In Sosua businesses come and go. When I first started going to Sosua, High Caribe was a large, popular discoteca about a mile from Classicos. The building is still there, it is close to where the Sosua Car wash is. D'Latinos was on the second floor of the white building, aboves Alf's Internet cafe on Ave Clisante, down the block and across the street from Classicos. Classicos didn't exist, when I first started going to Sosua.
I am not sure of the name of the bar that has D'Latinos in the back. It is an open air bar between El Flow and the Merengue Bar. I read years ago that an African American guy from the States bought that bar and renovated it, he may still be the owner today.
X bar across the street from Classicos has opened and closed several times, maybe the owners are Dominican.
The Italian guy who owns Sosua Bay Hotel and Classicos and who built the new casino, he doesn't get along with his own brother and they split their properties, with their hotel in Cabarete going to one brother. I am not sure if After One is still open.
Puerto Rican guys own Terra Linda.
There is a mix of Nationalities of business owners in Sosua. I can see how a German or a Dutch guy may want to stay in a hotel owned by a person who speaks his mother tongue.
Doesn't appear to be any hotels in Sosua that are owned by North Americans. Terra Linda is owned by Puerto Ricans and Puerto Rico is part of the United States.
When I stay in Santo Domingo, there are several smaller hotels owned by Americans, I would consider staying at those American owned hotels, one reason being that I could communicate with the owners in English. I can be lazy, it is just easier to communicate in English.
There was the white hotel across from New Garden that was empty for a long time, appears it may have been German owned.
I think there are a variety of factors that determine if a business is successful in Sosua. Nationality of the owners being a factor, but there are other factors as well. Not all German owned businesses do well, nor do all Italian owned businesses do well.
Some countries don't have a warm, tropical place in their countries. All of Germany is cold in the winter, all of Canada is cold in the winter, all of Holland is cold in the winter. The United States has Florida, the Gulf Coast and the south west, where it is warm in the winter. As such, Americans don't necessarily have to venture to another country to escape the cold winters. People from other countries might be more prone to open business in a tropical location like the Dom Rep, because they don't have that option in their own countries. Whereas Americans can open businesses in warmer parts of the U.S.

There was just an interesting topic about tipping on the Medillin board.A guy that lives there advises against tipping(an American custom).Someone then stated that people don't like Americans because we want to dictate(force) our lifestyles on other cultures.I'm a proud American,but sometimes we are so arrogant that we fail to accept other cultures and traditions.We take but we dont give back sometimes.And we can be so selfish,even when it comes to our own.
Why isnt more American money invested in Sosua?It's because we dont support our own,as the Germans and Italians do.And the Germans and italians will never support our businesses(1)because of anti American views(2)because they have their own infrastructure.

How did this view settle into you ?
Germans are the most well traveled country in the world second to none. There country is cold weathered and their work force gets 6 weeks of vacation/yr and then add on a significant number of national holidays. (We are talking about a 10 month work year in exchange for a 50% tax bracket). This manifests into there being travel agents on every street corner that has windows plastered with tons of vacation offers. Most of the places I have never heard of. I remember seeing Puerto Plata quite frequently and at great prices. Spanish speaking countries are the places where Germans tend to go the least.

In the SF bay area, the Asians typically only spend their money at other Asian owned businesses. Latinos tend to do the same and for sure the Filipinos are no different. In general, people tend spend their money at places where they feel most comfortable with the mentality of the people they are buying from.

Thanks for your considerate reply. From my view Germans are explorers, they seem to be the first, then later others come. Your post explained alot of why this is. Maybe if I lived in Germany I would have a different take on them. As I stated before before I think Wilfred(new Garden) is a great guy. But other Germans in Sosua seem distant. Maybe it steams from my desire to meet people from other countries, but Germans in Sosua don't appear receptive to this view.

Homeland security has been notified that we are not allowed to board any flights with the Dominican Republic as a destination. Todays speakers are Colombian and Brazilian girls in bathing suits, preaching for their countries as future destinations. No presidente's are served.

Jetblue has flights to Bogota. Nice thing about Jetblue, you can pay an extra $40 US and get seats in the first 4 rows which have more leg room. I agree, a 5 plus hour flight, crammed into an economy seat is almost like torture.

It was written in spainish and Portuguese and it was stating how the girls are cheaper in Columbia and the asses are phatter in Brazil. And because of that "SO-SOWER" should be ban from your future travel destination.
BUT the brochure forgot about notifying people that the flights are around 1500 dollars round trip. Ooh and you have to get a visa which cost another 200 just to touchdown in the country. Needless to say I burned the brochure. I'm still in my cheap bastard mode and in-love with the dominician/haitian culture.
