I like the gogo bar results far more than any alternative I have found
For the punter who is willing to spend 4,500 to 8,000 baht, what is a better option where he can select his girl from among many doable girls and have a chance to talk to her for 15 minutes before commitment to assess personality and chemistry? I don't recommend go go bars to punters who have a budget of nickels and dimes nor to those who want to consume mass quantities of alcohol.
While I am not a fan of loud music, sitting in bars and drinking alcohol, I am a fan of first selecting a girl based on my attraction to her physical appearance, being able to more accurately judge the physical reality based on the amount of unclothed skin, limbs and torso in front of me as well as her facial features, and hands-on testing, then for insignificant money being able to chat about whether or not the lady will be engaging in Real Sex or at least a Real Blowjob with me by my definition of both before committing to significant money in the arrangement, as well as often involving the mamasan, again for insignificant money, whose endorsement and testimonial for me generally goes a long, long way to ensuring the delivery of either or both of those actual Real Sex and Real Blowjob results in the room, with the right attitude and a smile.
That is what I get more consistantly from gogo bar experience than I have ever gotten from any other option or venue in Thailand. Not from the street girls, certainly not from what I see and have experienced in any so-called Porn Sex Experience Happy Ending Shops, massage shops, soapies, ThaiFriendly or similar, clubs, Thermae or wandering around aimlessly wishing on a star.
As you said, if anyone has a suggestion for a better alternative to get what I want as described above within an hour or two for typically less than 6,000 - 7,000 baht all in for the evening, I am more than open to hearing about it or giving it a try.
And at this point, after living here in Bangkok over a decade, I have never read nor heard a credible personal report of any punter getting results remotely close to what I described above after spending 10,000+ baht at any of those mega palaces in Ratcheda or the perhaps less costly but supposedly also higher end than gogo bar options on Thaniya Road either.
Soi Cowboy's Fall From Glory
Lets get down to the nitty gritty: Cowboy is for tourists. It isn't for fucking. Hasn't been that way for 15 plus years.
When I'm in Bangkok during my upcoming winter holiday I'll be sure to visit Soi Cowboy. I'll have a beer at Baccara and Crazy House and stick my head into the handful of bars that aren't owned by the infamous "Arab." But I'll be motivated by nostalgia for the good old days and careful to keep my expectations in check.
For reasons that defy understanding, it is now a destination for falang tourists who aren't even close to interested in the pay-to-play scene. Last time I was there I saw all manner of couples strolling up and down. I even saw single falang women. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? At least on Walking Street in Pattaya there are "civilian" restaurants and bars. But Soi Cowboy is a tiny block which has virtually nothing to recommend it unless you're a naughty boy. With everything else there is to see in Bangkok, why come there at night?
The tourists gawked at the punters and the girls like they were visiting a zoo. The bars now cater to the lookie-loos with OUTDOOR seating. Why would you pay go-go prices for a beer to sit on the sidewalk and judge the guys scuttling by? I even saw civilians inside the clubs. Again, what's the fucking point? To sneer and judge?
"Oh look Nell, that woman has comically large breasts!"
"Indeed! And look at the poor dear sitting with that portly bald gentleman. He's old enough to be her father!"
I don't know what the Thai word is for the opposite of sanuk. But that's how Soi Cowboy feels to me these days. Pitiful. Sad. A little annoying. And to add insult to injury, the Love Scene restaurant around the corner on Soi 23 has closed up shop. Back in the day I loved grabbing a bite there on my way back to the hotel.
