Cartagena Reports

One experience I had in Cartagena that I think I forgot to add to my post a few weeks ago. My taxi got stopped by the cops and they had me get out of the car and they frisked me, then they let us go. I was leaving the old city and heading toward Bocagrande, and just after we got out on the main road that leads to Bocagrande, there was sort of road block and the cops had us pull over, I was with a chica that I had met in front of Tu Candela on plaza de coches, but I (the Gringo) was the only one required to get out of the car and be frisked. Obviously I was clean, and they let me get back in the car and they let us go. I have been at stops like this in Cartagena before when they just looked in the car, saw a gringo, and waved the taxi on. So this time the only part I thought was strange was that I was the only one required to get out and be frisked.

I've only been to Cartagena but the visitor to Colombia must be aware that Colombians in Cartagena in the tourism industry specialize in sucking money out of tourists. LDV chicas are idiots. Quick story. Went into LDV on a Tuesday night. There were probably about 30-50 extremely hot chicas and 3-5 guys. I talk to one that would not go down from 200k for one shot. Plus they always try and bring you drinks and have insane consumption rules. Needless to say I wait until LDV closes, go to Elektra, hang out with same girls and price goes down to 150k. Most of these chicas go there every night and go home empty handed.

Quick screening tip that worked for me after I learnt: ask a girl in LDV where she is from / staying. If she lives in Cartagena and stays in Boca Grande or El Laguito take a pass on her. It means that she is committed to the business and you'll get bad service and a high price. She considers herself "high class" and already lives comfortably in the nicest area. She may have a daytime job already or a gringo benefactor who pays for her apartment and therefore she doesn't even really need your money. Ask her how long she is doing this. If she is new take advantage of that and you can get the real Colombian price (economic value) of 150k TLN. Also, don't exit LDV with a chica. Tell her your apartment number and get her number and then leave without her. Tell her to stay there for 5 minutes and then leave. Your only risk is another guy snatching her up. Offer her for ST (1 shot only). No more than 150k and then let her know that she can stay overnight if she'd like. If she likes you she'll stay for free otherwise she'll simply ask for more money. Don't pay more than 100k more. Max you'll end up paying is 250k.

Otherwise, beach is way better place to meet chicas. Try and directly talk to chicas at the beach. If there are none or very few, which happened to me, use Tony. He will try to suck money out of you constantly and charge you for everything. Use him minimally and then communicate directly with the chicas once you are put in contact. He takes a cut. Chicas told me that he expects that they get paid 120k per session and therefore charges his commission based on that. It was my first time there and I paid 180 being the unseasoned rookie there. They had the guts to ask me to tell Tony I paid 120k so that they could save money. I should have asked for a rebate otherwise I'd tell Tony!

Don't bother going to Tu Candela for chicas. Only the ugly ones hang out there and they are all super hard core and probably dangerous.

The Colombian culture and people in Cartagena are depressing although there are nice people there. I met a restaurant owner who was pretty nice. He didn't charge anything and helped me bargain down at one of the tourist shops. Everything in Cartagena is negotiable outside of places with menus. If there is no menu they will make up the price and change it whenever they feel like it! I speak Spanish so I caught on to this. It gave me a headache and was very depressing.

Cartagena is a great place if you are savvy and don't mind negotiating. It is very safe and has a beach and taxis are cheap.

Additional tip: all girls in LDV are in communication. It is like a union there. An experienced monger who lives down there told me that a trick to get better pricing is to tell the chica "I'll pay you 150k but I'll tell your friends that I paid 250k". This will save them face when talking with the union and she'll actually make money. LOL. Colombiana logic is messed up.

I'm not sure where to ask this question but since I'm heading to Cartagena in October with a bunch of the boys, I have many questions. Here is the main one: how do I PM someone here? I actually like the casas in El Bosque the best, they are all girls from other places who are hustling hard for a buck. I have had some very good service there and it is easy to separate the winners from the losers. Much better experience than at LDV, Elektra or meeting friends of friends arrangements. Rocio is the oldest casa in the city if not the country. Sailors and shit go there for a great time. Angeles uses the same business model. You can meet some nice local girls, too. The night club action is OK, Mr Barbilla's and so forth. The key thing you said is that Cartagena is for haggling and you really have to beware of hustles. KEY things to know.

I really hate the way the culture there is so aggressive and oriented toward ripoffs. Of course the local and national governments do fuck nothing to change the image. It is pretty in pictures but the reality is that it's a bunch of people with no money and / or no scruples trying to get over on you, either that or aggressive vendors and panhandlers, which are also annoying.

Late in November is a good time for chicas, school is on vacation and many come to Cartagena for holiday and next semester tuition dinero.

Listen I am in the final stages of a very ugly divorce, so I am looking to get my mind free from the bullshit I'm dealing with in the states. Can anyone help me out by giving me some advise? I really need to have a good time. I would love to forget my problems for a little while. Someone please reply thanks.

Nothing like being with beautiful Latin women after being raked over the coals by a stinking Gringa.

Don't trust hustlers, never pay for anything that you do not have in hand whether it be girls, party favors, whatever. They are out in masse.

You might consider spending some time on the islands. Get there, get your feet under you, meet a girl you can tolerate taking overnight or for a weekend and go out there. Much nicer beaches and atmosphere than the city of CTG.

Schools in Colombia works with two calendars: A or B.

Most of the country schools work with "A" calendar which goes from begining February to begining June (summer vacation) and mid July to mid November (winter vacation, and note that it is longer than summer vacation).

Calendar B goes from mid January to mid May and beginning of August to mid December.

Went to Plaza de los Coches on Tuesday around 7PM. Hung around for a while and only saw about three chicas (at least that I could tell were working). Probably slow due to time of day and fact that it was a Tuesday and there was a big football match. One by the gate with nice figure and curves and long straight black hair was really striking a pose and looked great from a distance as I walked. I walked past her and she whispered "hola" to me. Something about her face convinced me to take a pass though. The other two, inside the walls, sitting on the benches to the left of the entrance, were a couple flaquitas, one negra, the other typical complexion, about a 6 and a 7, respectively in my opinion. Checked out LDV last night around 11 or 12 just to see what was available. Beers were 10k a piece. Had a couple while I surveyed the scene. Maybe about 30 or so girls, a lot of real hotties. I had no intention of taking out any girls from there though, given the ridiculous 100k minimum drink policy. It's just too much of a hassle, and overall cost when you factor in the typical price of the chicas there. It's too bad, because it's a great venue and there were a lot of hot chicas there.

Cartagena is an expensive city, particularly compared to other places in Colombia.

I think my next two spots to check out are going to be Playa Hollywood and I would really like to check out that Casa Rosario / Rocio place in El Bosque. Can't beat casas for overall convenience in my opinion.

Anyone else have any additional info about that casa aside from what's already in the forum? Is the area dicey or dangerous? I was planning on checking it out during the daytime.

I was planning on checking it out during the daytime.[/QUOTE]Rocio is a favorite of mine. Near there, there is also Club Angeles, which has a similar setup but is much newer. Both have female owners. Rocio is a former prepago who worked her way up to the top, a real success story LOL. She runs a tight ship and has a lot of ins with local transport (the cabbies and, more importantly, the port folks who bring in a lot of sailors). At times the selection there is incredible, others it's unremarkable. I have not been in about three years, but I have three friends who work there (a doorman and two chicas) whom I talk to now and then. You will only get good daytime if the ships are in, otherwise the girls will be sleeping or out during their own thing. The downside there is lots of competition for the ones you want. I say go at night, look at the full selection and get numbers. On days when there are no ships coming in during the day, you can get the girls to your place for what you'd pay for one hour only they will stay all afternoon.

The area is not dicey or dangerous. It is a pretty normal residential area, sure it is like Strato 2 or 3 at the highest, but nothing greasy. I have never once felt threatened there in any way, shape or form, and at one point I had a regular I was visiting there all the time. You will see a handful of people out in the street but it's seldom crowded. The cab will take you right to the door. Don't let the cabbies rip you off. They often try to charge foreigners 15K, especially at night. It should be no more than 12K and really more like 10K. Once I took my friend out for lunch and they charged her 7K, though that seemed low as it is kind of a haul from Bocagrande or the old city (maybe 12 minutes).
