Khun Shane Can't be Bothered to Read Prior Posts
Safe hotels? How to avoid ladyboys? Best spots to pick up women? Price ranges?
I'm going to join the chorus of guys who urged Khun Shane to do his own homework. Here's a technique, which I think works pretty well:
Start a new document to record useful information. If you read the forum on a personal computer do this using a word processing program. If you access the forum on your phone, use an app like Notes on the iPhone or Simplenote on Android devices.
The forums devoted to Thailand have self-explanatory titles, like "Bangkok Reports" and "Bangkok Hotels." Go back at least a year and read forward. This sounds onerous, but it's not. Yesterday I did this on another site for another destination. I whipped through 18 months of traffic in 90 minutes.
When you find a helpful tidbit, add it to your list. You can cut and paste text or paraphrase. You can also use the post # to copy the URL for that specific post. Doing this using word processing software or a notes app allows you to organize what you learn. Travel tips. Where to lodge. Good places to eat. The current state of play for naughty boys.
If you read about a hotel, restaurant, go-go, massage place or whatever that sounds good, look it up on Google Maps or Bing maps. This will give you the lay of the land. Often, the establishment will have its own web site. Add the URLs to your list.
On the flight over, review your list. Review it again when you get to your hotel. Have at least a rough plan before you go out on the town.
Speaking strictly for me, I rather enjoy this process. When it's cold and dark in Farangland and I'm cooped up inside, keeping up with the latest reports and updating my list is like a virtual holiday. And when I finally arrive I make the best use of my time on the ground.
