I have nothing to report from Sunday other than I tried to drink twenty beers but I only made it to seventeen by midnight and I figured anything after that didn't count so I went back to my room and passed out. And, the dish was too salty, a common phenomenon in Argentina that I had not run across here. This was the most expensive meal I had here. 34k for the lasagna so 50k with beer (64 CL Brahma; no Pilsen) and tip. I would give it a C+. A C for the lasagna, although a B for the presentation, and the bread was better than some other places. Service was slow and it was early and not busy. I think Biggest is a much better value. Saw some cute regular chicas there, too. The best empanadas I found were at 'El Shadai,' 15 de agosto 263 (that might not be the exact number but it is darn close). 2k each including your choice of bread or mandioca. Both the bread and the mandioca are good and the bread even comes warm. I thought the chicken were the best but the beef were good, too. Avoid the ham and cheese unless you are really into salt. 3 makes a meal while 2 is a nice snack.

What else? The minimum wage here is 1,658,232 guaranies per month. I changed $35 USD today and got 3910, although later in the day the same place was offering 3915. 1,658,232 / 3910 = $424.10 per month.

Beer prices per can at Ña Kuka: Kaiser 2.315k, Victoria 2.855k, Budweiser 3.250k, Brahma (consistently the most expensive brand) 3.970k. Several other brands are sold here as well but not Pilsen, for whatever reason. Both the Palace and the San Diego charge 6k for beers from the mini bar. 7.5k to 8.5k is what I have seen for Pilsen in returnable liters and the deposit is 5k. Gas stations and kioscos were charging 4-4.5k for a can of Pilsen and 5k for Brahma. I prefer Pilsen but that Kaiser was just fine so I drank a lot of it.

Hotel San Diego is recommended. No idea if it is chica friendly because I don't do that. Breakfast does have meat and cheese but no cereal or yogurt that I saw. Juice is not fake. Coffee is better than at either Palace or Armelé. Not as much selection but you can fill your gut. Nice and quiet, AC works well, fridge does not make noise. Water pressure in the shower is not too good. Only one public computer but the wifi was reliable enough to listen to ESPN baseball. Wish I had stayed here from the get-go. It has black out curtains too. I did not attempt to negotiate from the stated price of 100k and they charge 10% more if you use a credit card. BTW the VAT is 10% (included in the 100k). They do serve lunch and dinner but I never tried them. Lunch menu varies from day to day, usual milanesa and pasta and such for 12-14k. If that hotel is not cheap enough for you there is one for 85k across from Supermercado Santa Rosa on Pte. Franco 600. It looked okay but the wifi only reaches some rooms and not others. They have at least two public computers, though.

Pussy and beer and beer and pussy and then more beer and more pussy so if you are looking for anything else, don't bother. The live music I saw was not good and they are still into karaoke. I would say the average restaurant here is better than in Buenos Aires and the waiters don't give you counterfeit bills with your change. The sun is very intense even when it is not particularly hot. Two cloudy days right in the middle of the trip helped a lot. There are some cute women walking around but the average is nothing to write home about.

Went to 14 de mayo 1008 around midnight, spooky walking around up there, fag not there, three chicas and only one do-able. The route is Cerro Corá, República Francesa, Mariscal López, General San Martín (which going the other way is Republica de Argentina and heads towards Terminal de Omnibús) , then Aviadores de Chaco to the airport. The fare is 2 8k and I noticed I got a different color ticket than those paying 2.3k. There was a ticket check at the Plaza de Something or Other which had a special lane for the buses to enter. The bus was not crowded. The route takes you past numerous privados and also goes very close to the 'high end' privado Thai that I reported on. Goes by the women's prison too if you want to troll for a cheap fuck among the prisoners being released.

The food and drink is reasonable outside of security but they don't seem to run the AC and it was already 26.5C when I got here at 11 AM. A 630 ml Pilsen is 13k but the lata is 6k so that is a better value. Inside security they gouge you. Empanadas are 6k outside security and a ridiculous 13k inside. The wifi here is free and works. Note it did not work when I was last in Plaza de lo Héroes. This is courtesy of 'Tigo' which appears to be the number 1 cell company here.

I like Pluna because the check in agent said the flight would not be very full and so I could take both my backpacks on board. I was prepared to pay. He advised me that I would not be able to get my large bottle of sunscreen through security but he noted, 'It is worth less than the thirty dollars to check the bag, right? ' So I left the sunscreen on top of the trash can, finished off my water, and went through security. Later I realized I had gotten through with the cheap imitation 'Swiss Army Knife' I had bought in Alberti. They will probably take it away from me in Montevideo. 12 Argie pesos down the drain if that happens but I got some service out of it. Also they could have given less of a fuck about the liquids and creams I had put in a plastic bag and I am sure the sunscreen would have gotten through, too. The airport is very empty right now.

Good-bye, Paraguay. No real problems here on any of my visits but nothing memorable either. If you are going to come here for a few days, come during the week, is my advice. ¡Suerte a todos!

It has been raining since last 24 hrs, and I hope all those Mosquitos that bit me last night are drowned and dead. Those dam little creatures are everywhere in the room, hotel Lobby and the restaurant I was eating last night. I use to come mainly for business, and while I agree that for travelling nationals who need a visa for Paraguay while they need none for Argentina, it might not be worthwile to come here, I find it a pleasant place with pleasant people and pleasant chicas.

Also I find the geographical location of the Mirocentro quite intriguing, On the other side of the river at 500 m from downtown the endless greenish plain of the Chaco begins, a green void, like a green open sea. You can appreciate it when you have hotel with roof terrace.

One tip for another dead quite Sunday in Microcentro with all casas closed : from the jetty next to the presidential palace, Playa Montevideo, wooden taxi boats commute to a village called Chaco'I on the opposite river bank, it is an quick cheap and quite charming excursion into rural Paraguay.

BTW have you seen that Paraguay Navy 1920's destroyer being moored in the river by the Presidential Palace? I love it. It is somehow so very much Banana Republic.

Not all of the restaurants or rather eateries mentioned here I would recommend. Good quality and price / value for me is the brazilian type rodizio, apptly called Rodizio, Calle Palma, next to Burger King close to crossing 14. Mayo.
