Not worth the trade-off if you ask me. In Thailand I find that the more one sticks the mainstream the better one's chances of not being disappointed. Bangkok is great for cheap (relatively speaking) and abundantly available plain vanilla. Once you start going off the beaten path its a steep downhill cliff.

Usually they just take one customer at a time and once you enter they close the door to prevent other customers from entering. It's only a small little bar with 3/4 staff. The reason for going is to get attention of 3 ladies at once (4 if you can convince the bar maid / owner), so they can't really divide their time amongst multiple customers even if they wanted to.

Don't know how things are where you mongered before, but had you read this forum first, you would have known this: in Thailand you always pay after. Now you know why.
