More Non-Mongering Day Occupiers
Hi Mates, I'm heading off to BK soon (20 days), and while I'm sure I can fill my time at night (partying) and mornings / early afternoon (gym), I'm struggling on what to do in the times in between. Some time I can fill with sightseeing, but especially having dinner's alone is something I dread tbh. So question to you fellow mongers out there; What do you do when alone in Thailand? Any easy way to socialize with other Monger's before we split?
Personally, after a week+ of steady mongering, I get bored, so take a break, and do some sightseeing.
1. Ayutthaya.
Day trip from BKK, but spending a night there (cheap hotel), gives you 2 days to meander. Rent a bike or just the ole boot leather.
2. Sukhothai.
Bit further afield, but a nice trip over several days. Definitely rent a bike. Slight detour on the way, stop for a couple of hours in Phitsanulok.
3. Kanchanaburi, Bridge on the River Kwai.
Van, bus, train gets you there. Small museum, wandering through the military cemetery, noting the dates on the tombstones - sacrifices, makes you grateful for your life. Sound-and-Light show I enjoyed. Long day trip.
4. Floating Market.
For a decade I studiously avoided, "tourist trap". But then a BG LT pull suggested we go see. Have to admit, it was fun and colorful.
5. The usual Grand Palace, Reclining Buddha, Wat Arun,
Wat Traimit: solid gold Buddha, for centuries hidden underneath plaster. No one knew until accidentally dropped during a relocation.
For temples, dress modestly. Long pants, short / long sleeve shirt, no tank tops.
6. Water taxi on the Chao Phraya River
Just jump on a boat, travel along, then off.
I always bought a Lonely Planet Guide to the destinations I'd visit, but I'm old, like my hardcopy.
In 20 days, you also might consider a short (couple of days) trip to Siem Reap, Cambodia, Angkor Wat (bucket list).
Gyms are "anywhere". Out-n-About, BOTG, for me, much more enjoyable.
BTW: I've met more people traveling alone than with others. A single traveler, more locals (non-scammers) willing to converse rather than interrupting several, less intimidating for them (up-country). Easy to bump into other travelers when you're out and about.
Mongering in Phitsanulok?
Did you see whether mongering is available in Phitsanulok? Or were you only sighseeing?
I spend much of the winter in Chiang Mai, and have considered a side trip to Phitsanulok, easy to get to by train. Would be more fun if there are ladies to entertain me after sightseeing (of course).
Looking for Indies in Bangkok?
Visiting Bangkok in 1st Week September. Looking for some great indies or WG who can accompany me for a couple of days in my room. Heading there for a corporate meeting. Would love to come back to a Thai woman waiting in my hotel room. Will not have the will to go monger out in the streets after spending the day in a a convention room. Help a bro out with some contacts. I have tried websites like TF, MR nothing over there that catches me eye yet. PM's are open.
