Opportunities during long layovers
I'm pretty new to HK, having only had two experiences there, one with a 141 walk up in Kowloon which was pretty good and a mediocre experience at K-Pressure. However, I have a couple long layovers coming up in HK and am wondering how best to sample the Wanchai bars (I've never been to any of them and I'm more partial to SE Asians than Chinese, plus I prefer the FL scene). Do you need to have a hotel room to do a takeout from the Wanchai clubs? Are there short time hotels close by as an alternative, especially since I won't be staying overnight? Or do I just try to get one of the cheaper hotels in the Wanchai area for under $100 US that have been mentioned on the forum?
My first layover is on a Thursday morning, flight arriving at 6 AM, leaving Noon. Might be kind of tight getting in someplace, but could I try to get down to some of the Wanchai bars that are open in the morning (I understand Old China Hand, Queen Victoria and possibly Bar 109?). But, is there really any action on weekday mornings? Or am I best off trying to find a 141 open in the morning?
My second layover is longer. It's on a Monday, arriving around noon, and leaving at 1:00 AM at night. Hoping to partake a couple times, perhaps an afternoon delight out of a Wanchai bar, and an evening one. Again, wondering what the bars are like on weekday afternoons. Or is this a waste of time vs. A 141?
Thanks in advance for any advice and comments.
Visiting HK 18. 22 February
Is there any word on any US Navy visits next weekend (18/19 Feb)?
And Uncle Goober, if you are watching and not to tired from a Sunday excursion, text me if you are still ok to meet Friday or Saturday!
THanks.
