Yes, but they count in the 85% employed anyone who earns anything at all during the month. And they don't count women as unemployed if her man has earned anything at all. By First World methods of assessment it is more like 40%.

Also there is virtually no social security safety net so being employed is a lot more desperate in the DR.

I am not an expert on anything. I haven't been everywhere and seen it all. I don't hold a masters degree. But with my limited experience here's my take.

Police:

Medellin police act like they are more interested in getting criminals. No harassment of tourists, very safe city.

Dr police harass tourists, and are always looking for a handout.

Advantage: Medellin.

Taxis:

You can ask a taxi driver in the DR where Anna lives and he knows. Very knowledgable about their areas, and others.

Medellin taxis would sometimes ask other taxis where to go. One lady we had to tell to stop for red lights. Some drivers wouldn't even pick us up. All the cabs are the same and are everywhere.

Advantage: DR

Women:

Medellin women are HOT HOT HOT. Very lady like and focused. Wife type material. Pale skin, long black hair, dressed classy, and confident. Some wear to much makeup and fake boobs are popular. I didn't see any ugly women, only a hand full of average girls. I've never been to Russia or Argentina, but in my opinion, as a group Colombianas are the most beautiful women on earth.

DR girls project sex. They are about attention, and give off a sexual vibe.

DR girls make your dick hard, Medellin girls make you smile. Upon first impression, do you want a lady? Or do you want a freak? I could never trust a Dominicana in a serious relationship. But Colombian girls I could.

Medellin is an organized, clean, and well put together place.

You seem to spend a lot of time in the DR but have an eye for Colombian chica's. Have you tried the Lesser Antiles (Aruba, St Martin, Curacao)? Located in the Caribbean, and have facilities stocked primarily with Colombian woman. Prices start at $30/half hour.
