I would recommend Casa Valaria, small quiet and very private. Discreet is the word there. No chicas allowed in the pool, but you can kick back on your semi private poolside terrace.

Family run, but they are cool to quiet chicas as long as you bring them in and take them out.

A/C, room safe and clean for about 50 us per night, and its as close to the action as you need to be.

It's a 10 minute walk to the beach, but on that walk you get so distracted by the action that like me, you'll probably never make it :)

I second Oakie and they also ave a decent little restaraunt that I had a great meal at last week. Casa Valeria is right next door to the Hotel New Garden that has been mentioned a great deal in other's previous posts so I won't repeat here.

On my last two trips however I discovered Hotel El Rancho, 3 minute walk away and I like this place better. It was recommended to me by the owner of Casa Valeria when he was full and I couldn't get a room. My future trips will forever be at El Rancho. Here's why:
1) Rooms are $45 a night and the place was just built less than a year ago.
2) Located on a much quieter dead end side street with its own private and protected PUBLIC beach about 100 yards away. Just walk into the adjacent all inclusive and follow the clifftop to the stairs to the beach. No riffraff at all on this beach, none. Trust me, its public.
3) The entire town is within easy walking distance to everything from El Rancho just like Casa Valeria.
4) Exchange your dollars at the street corner with the money exchangers right there. Safe and convenient and they offer the highest street rate. I would exchange exactly $100 USD every time i needed it and be on my way.
5) Chica friendly, they hold her ID card ("cedula") and she doesn't get it back till you walk her out. Strict security guard always on duty at the desk 24/7.
6) Little bar/rest out back serves a decent, cheap breakfast. After the beach just jump into their little pool to cool off. You can eat dinner there and watch them cook it for you.
7) Everything works in the room, A/C, ceiling fan, TV, hot water, and its clean. I was just there for 3 nights several days ago after a 5 day bangfest at BlackBeards.

I'd say Terra Linda fills the bill. If cost were more important than max luxury, I'd say El Rancho or Casa Valeria. If a wild party scene right in the hotel's front yard were the criteria, I'd say New Garden. They are all within around 100 meters of each other on the same street.

Club Residencial is another option and very low key, it is a 10 minute walk from the strip on Pedro Clisante. These are apartments with daily maid service.

Thanks guys for all the advice. I'll look into it. Last year I spend a week at the Victorian House so I do know the area. I did like that hotel though they were not really chica friendly. I hear they now have a beach club in that same resort that is more easy on the single traveller. Maybe that would be an option too.

One question for you. I know it may seem like a small detail but it makes all the difference in the world to me.

Do the rooms in Rancho have decent curtains that can block out the morning sun? That was my biggest complaint about Sea Breeze, their cheap ass curtains. As soon as the sun came up at 7AM, it would flood the room with light and I couldnt get any sleep.

The rooms don't get real bright and the curtains block out some of the light. I always use a sleep mask for that reason and share your concern. I prefer the 2nd floor rooms for added security and quiet. The ground floor rooms seem like they might be darkest opposite the pool side but I didn't care for these owing to its close proximity to the casa right across the not quite high enough wall. My second floor room was opposite the pool side and was very quiet and was better shaded with trees. The pool side seems like it might be a bit brighter with sunlight but not really that bad. The 2nd floor rooms also have little balconies. Best bet, 2nd floor, opposite the pool side. Room #18 is a bit larger and cost $50/night as it has a small kitchenette. Room #14 (I think) is on the street side and I declined that room. The street its on is pretty quiet even during the day and very quiet at night. Decent restaraunt across the street along with a "massage" parlor. Barber shop right next door, nice lady gave my wingman a haircut while I read the paper.
