Formerly transferwise, you can set up balances in like 30 plus currencies, and get a debit card. Then use local bank ATMs to withdraw whatever you plan to spend, not the high fee Euronet ATMS, but local banks. I live in Germany and constantly travel, I am able to keep balances in HUF, GBP, Euros, and anywhere else I am traveling. It is better to do things in Forints because the locals will often charge you more to pay in Euros. That is just my suggestion if you have enough time before your trip.

Generally no one accepts US dollars in Hungary, so just change your money to forints in a reputable exchange office and before you leave the country nothing prevents you changing them back to dollars again.

How much the amount of cash are you talking about, equivalent to around $1,000 a day ? Many people carry that amount on their pockets. You even have time to exchange twice within a day if you need to. For shopping discretionary items in Shopping centre, paying your dinner, hotel bills you could always use your credit / debit card.
