For over 10 years I had travelled to Jakarta many times and barely got laid from time to time. It was not until I found this forum that things became really interesting. Today, though I have all the choices between the asian countries, Jakarta still remains my favorite.

Bottom line is, either you do your homework before you go there, or else, don't waste your time and go to Tahiland.

When there is a possibility, best to postpone or bring forward your trip to two weeks before or two weeks after Ramadhan, if not a month either way. Been there during the Muslim fasting month three years ago. Thankfully on work as I would have cursed myself had I booked the trip and paid for it myself.

If I should be postive for a second, Jakarta nightlife somehow reminded me of Beijing, difficult, annoying, cryptic but if you score, you can score big and it is really satisfying. If I had found one special lady / had some good sex maybe I had been more happy and not so critical but my assessment now is that for a 2-7 day visit a normal traveller / tourist with an interest in sex have no major interest in Jakarta unless one has other businesses in town I certainly did read the forum and spent some time researching, I had a shortlist + map of 7 places but only visited 3 of them as distances were so big and taxis from the more expensive hotels were pretty expensive.

I did not find anything about this JAD, is it a forum-user or company?

Classic: I went to the 3rd floor place with the many girls and super-loud music, I see that others liked this place but too me if was not nice at all when I visited, OK there were many slim girls but almost all of them looked like they did not want to be there + the mamasan was really pushy, not so nice to the girls nor me. I had big hopes for this place but did not like it at all.

A major issue for me about Jakarta in general was the cigarette smoke in the clubs and that the girls smoked so much + the hospitality was lower than all other Asian countries that I have visited, you simply did not feel that welcome to the country of in any of the establishments that I visited.

But one of the hottest girls I've ever met in Jakarta had a similar voice. A bit mannish sounding, but that girl was great in bed. She has 3 kids now and married an expat.

Trust me, that ladyboy at My Bar was pretty damn hot and not easy to tell it was a Ladyboy. Was there a shadow of doubt? Absolutely. But I have been with girls who have been tall and questionable in jakarta before who were all woman and great shags. I've been in Asia a long time and can normally pick the Lady boys out pretty easily. That one was an exception. Hell, I considered taking him / her home once until one of the girls in My Bar told me it was a Ladyboy who lived near her. I won't mention any names, but I know quite senior members of this forum who were fooled by lady boys in Jakarta and they had been around plenty. Scary stuff.

In my opinion, any guy who thinks it's impossible to get fooled by those ladyboys - HAS been fooled by them and just doesn't realize it.

Just keep your guard up gents. Indonesia doesn't have as many as Thailand, but the threat is out there.

Jakarta is maybe the best place in the world for an expat to live, or for a long term visit, or for someone to visit who already did live there in the past. But for a newbie who isn't familiar with the city, Thailand and the Philippines are far better places to spend a week of mongering.

I called up one of my standby's, an occasional Blok M girl in her mid 20's, skilled at "empot empot ayam" technique. Anyway there I was sucking on a glass of red wine and I heard 2 voices approaching from the street. She had taken it upon herself to bring her 17 yr old neighbor, pretty face, ever so slightly chunky and with a trophy rack. This girl was curious about trying a "bule" and I was that guy.

After a vigorous 3 some we all crashed out and woke with the mosques and off they went.

Most mongering expats living here have similar stories, if not better. But for this 54 yr old Jakarta is a great place.

BTW as Smoothy has said about the Shemale in MyBar, is true and both she and a similar friend or hers would often lurk in Top Gun a bit earlier.

reading your further comments about the clubs, the smoke, the girls, the hospitality, the transportation system or lack of it, the taxis, etc. you show clear signs of having developped a serious allergy to jakarta. and my friendly recommendation, would be: do not go back there, you'll only be wasting your time and money.

jakarta is definitely not a sex fast food place, unless you know exactly where to go. to name but a few of the places that you must have passed by unknowingly would be maribaya 6th floor, blok m pick up bars, the numerous spas and massage parlours rep001tered all around he city, where there are scores of gorgeous freelancers only willing to please, north kota girlies bars loaded with so many lovelies that the main trouble is to choose one and still get hard looking at the others after you're done, malioboro, mangga besar other girlies bars and barlian and kartika, etc, etc etc. they are all described in the forum, with appreciations, maps and directions.

its quite strange that you felt unwelcomed, i always thought and felt that indonesians in general, and ladies in particular, were particularly genuinly welcoming and very easy to get along with. your reaction has probably something do with the way they treated you.

I am back in Jakarta next week for the first time in about 2 years I guess! Really looking forward to it. Can't understand some of the comments below about Jakarta being like Beijing? If you go the right places I think Jakarta is probably the wildest place for girls in all of Asia (with perhaps the exception of Chang Ping in South China).

I have a question please if I may (I have read the forum and I do always write up trip reports where appropriate).

Please could someone give me directions to Hotel Travel and Hotel Classic. Are they in the Manga Basar area? I seem to recall Hotel Travel is over that way.

Maybe try being a bit more accepting yourself next time you're in Jakarta or anywhere else in South East Asia. The cigarette, particularly the kretek, is part of Indonesian life. In fact I believe this is one country that has more smokers than non-smokers.

I also can't make up what could seem so unwelcoming in Jakarta from what you've explained, especially in the establishments of interest to us. The only major problem as far as I can see is the traffic. Other minor issues, yes, but nothing to feel so disappointed about from my experience. I can't imagine Jakarta being a city where I'm made to feel unwelcome. The hospitality, well depends on what you expect for what you're willing to pay, I guess. Same as anywhere else.

Maybe you want to elaborate on your experiences so that we might have an idea of what you went through as a precaution for coming visits.
