ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR USA CITIZENS: If you are a USA citizen tourist staying for fewer than 30 days, you do not require a visa, but your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of your entry into Thailand.

All travelers will need a passport valid for at least 90 days following your departure date from Thailand. However, we strongly recommend traveling with 6 months validity on your passport at all times. VisaHQ can assist USA citizens with a full range of expedited passport services, including new passport application and passport renewal.

If you read it carefully, it says 90 DAYS FOLLOWING YOUR DEPARTURE date. So it is not a 90 day validity. Enuff said.
Several posts ago it was too much said; however, if you Read carefully, the US State Department and the passport / visa service company clearly contradict one another, which is what created the ruckus. The moral is: renew your passport well before six months of its expiration.

Renew it at least 12 months before its validity expires even if you are not then planning to travel.

Don't waste time on the semantics of various 'instructions. '

Sadly, I cannot find the rules clearly stated on any Thai government website. On the website of the Thai Embassy in Washington DC, it makes no mention of passport requirements for the tourist visa exemptions (30 day stamp most people here get when they enter Thailand without a visa) , http://dc.thaiembdc.org/consular/VISA/Exempt2.aspx.

However, for a tourist visa (60 day kind) , it states "Your actual Passport or Travel Document. (Passport or Travel Document must not expire within 6 months and contain at least ONE completely empty visa page)." http://dc.thaiembdc.org/consular/VISA/Tourist.aspx. But it doesn't say when the clock starts on the six months (entry, exit, or date of application).

Because the 30 day stamp is shorter than the proper visa, they may use the 90 day rule mentioned. In that case, both websites could technically be accurate. However, I'm inclined to believe it is 6 months from time of entry.

Anal retention here.

Does it matter what the different rules say?

The call on this is made by the country to which you visit, not the country you come from nor the country whose passport you have. In the past Thailand has not enforced this rule, but that does not mean the rule no longer exists.

Does passport validity rank above f*ck*ng?

Not in my book.
Senior member over at the Usasexguide site, just starting here.

Few questions for all western expats living in Bangkok or Thailand in general. Especially those that work there.

It is possible I may be able to continue working for my currently company and just work remotely from Thailand (or where ever). But I like to cover all my bases.

Thanks
If your current real country employer will employ you and let you work in Thailand, then take that. Thailand is like any other country, the biggest sharks are some other expat, not the locals, bar girls excluded of course. And if you really don't like the place, you maybe can move back where you came from. In Thailand there are very few things you can legally own as a business without being forced by regulation to share with some hanger on. Stick with what you know.

They let me in but when time to leave, I got escorted out of immigration and they told me to go to my Embassy. Theu would not let me keave Thailand. At the time of my planned departure from Thailand, I had a few days less that 6 months before my passport expired. I got a new passport at the American Embassy in Bangkok. I did not mind; great excuse to spend some extra days in Bangkok.
Don't waste time on the semantics of various 'instructions. '
Well said.

The 6 month rule is a silly rule in its own as any country actually reduces the life of a passport 6 months shorter than what yor country says. But FFS, just renew it ahead of time and all will be fine.

Who is the idiot who wants to challenge any immigration officer anywhere in the world about his country rules being silly and not clear.

I'm looking at Thailand as a destination next year, probably late April. I usually do two week tours of the German fkk club scene (and will combine both scenes on this next trip). My question is how long is a good Thailand tour? I'm undecided between three or four weeks. I also ran into two swedes in a Fkk club, one who lives in Bangkok for the last 15 years. Both stated that Pattaya has the lower quality girls, girls who can no longer make it in Bangkok. Is this correct? Should I focus my trip in Bangkok and avoid Pattaya?

Pattaya is smaller, cheaper and the girls on average are less attractive, though you can find some good looking young ladies. After four weeks in Bangkok you will have just scratched the surface. A few days in Pattaya and, unless you like it, you'll be ready to leave, and may conclude you don't need to go back.

And two, Songkran. Many / most expats hate it with a passion, but I loved it when I was there last. Kind of a once in a lifetime experience.

Regarding quality of girls, my first visit to Pattaya, I had the impression that Bangkok was better. But lately, I don't think that is the case. The best looking girls in Bangkok seem to hold out for Japanese customers.

In Pattaya, you can find more hot women than you can shake a stick at. The gogos tend to have the better looking woman and will be much cheaper than you will find in Bangkok.

If you only plan on staying in one place, then three weeks is probably enough. If you want to move around, four is better. I like Phuket (but not for mongering) and the southern beaches in general.

One week Bangkok, one week some places in the interior and two weeks in Jomtien (Pattaya).

As to the "quality" of the girls, all depends on your definition of quality. There are ugly girls and bad performers everywhere, but beautiful ladies who give you a marvelous time as well. Prices in Pattaya are generally lower than in Bangkok, but I like the agogo-clubs in Bangkok more than those in Pattaya. On the other hand, the short-time bars in Soi 6 in Pattaya are unique: a real Candyland for Adults. Pattaya also has an abundance of open-air beerbars with lots of free-lancers and Beach Road is the home of more of them, if that is your fancy. For sure, Pattaya is different from Bangkok, but each has its own good and bad things. For a first trip, taking a look at both is the best option, IMHO.

There is the rule also that no girl is ugly at 1. 00am when there are only two WGs left in the bar
Does passport validity rank above f*ck*ng?

Not in my book.
Of course it does. No validity, no LOS.
