Current political crisis update.
Bangkok post says mass 'shut-down' of Bangkok planned today, Sunday 22nd Dec. By Anti-Thaksin demonstrations, this is, by the yellow-shirts' own admission, a strategy to gauge support for their cause, and also inspire their provincial cadres, where support is less strong, to maintain the rage.
There are about 5 rallies planned across the Big Mango at strategic crossroads according to the Post, and the nearest affecting us is Asoke, better known as the vicinity of Soi Cowboy.
So depending on who and how many show up, they may be something of a non-event. In any case, they are likely to be over by nightfall.
In other news, one of the Army top brass has ruled out a coup, but has called for a non-aligned committee to act as an arbitrator between the two sides. It is important to note that this is NOT the same as an election, which have in recent times always returned a Thaksin in some shape or form to power, and are likely to do so again in February. Either way, it has reached the point where election results here just serve to [CodeWord140] the losing side off to the point where they simply cannot accept it and get on with life, so clearly, Thailand is between a rock and a hard place.
Khun General seems to think that if the current colour-coded politics is allowed to fester unresolved, the country could face civil war! Not a nice though at all; imagine Bangkok ending up looking like Beirut, or even Belfast.
I don't think a General would be the type of guy to make alarmist comments, but then again TiT. Regardless of where this is, we as a species generally don't seem to be happy unless we're making each other deeply unhappy, and that is what makes me worry about the Generals remarks, it's entirely humanly possible.
Anyhoo, lets see what tomorrow brings, I have to traverse Asoke to get to the girls, but in a pinch there's always Soi 33, less than ten minutes easy stroll from my crib.
At any rate, I'm enjoying BKK not being too overcrowded with shuffling night-market-zombies this year. Its looking about the same as the average off-season, so there are still a lot of people around, and Nana last night was going like a rocket!
Mango massage outdated website
It seems the mango website is not getting updated like it used to be a few months back.
I walked in to see that talent and was pleasantly surprised to see a few new faces since I went there last 2-3 months back.
Seems NEsle has to do some work!
