That must be soooooo annoying for you.
The girls here can often speak Thai and Lao fluently, most with passable English, and many with a smattering of French, German, Japanese and for some reason Norwegian.
Norwegian? That must be due to Skogis.

Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Pattaya and BKK til March. And though the question has been briefly adressed in various threads, I really would like a heads-up (from eyes on the ground) on whether is is safe to stay in Bangkok / Pattaya with the current demos going on?
Anyone?
Best regards.

I was feeling pretty cocky and confident about flying in on Thursday until I read Stickman's report. Either the Bangkok Post is kind of fluffy on the coverage or Stickman is going all CNN on us, but he does seem to be pretty thorough as to exactly what is happening at each point, including on the BTS. Anyone with feet on the ground care to comment?

http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/Bangkok-Protests-2013/Bangkok-Protests-2013-8.htm
I am hanging around Soi 20 and 22 and using Phrom Phong area. I am not having any big problems. Taxis are available. Motorcycles are the go. Traffic in Sukhumvit is low. No traffic jam around here.
As I stated before, I would not stay in Soi 19 right now. Asoke is all blocked (according to Stickman) and if take a taxi to Sukhumvit you can't go anywhere. Otherwise I would love to stay in Asoke Residence in Soi 19. Soi 23 also may not be the best choice.
Soi 22 is packed full of MPs and so is 24/1, 31, 33. I will no doubt try Soi Cowboy some time and Nana. I don't see any massive problems for having a good time just yet. However will be careful to decide just what places are sensible to go right now. I used to take a motorcycle on Asoke up to the Ratachada Soapies. Just need to change that method a little. Could take back Sois up to Petchburi road by motorcycle.
Heaps of places to eat in this area and also good supermarket shopping in Villa Markt (soi 33/1). Perhaps I am fine as know Bangkok very well. However I don't see big reason to stay away. Just choose your accommodation carefully if you know Sukhumvit at all.

Thai Protesters Turn Focus to Stock Exchange.
Antigovernment Activists Seek to Escalate Efforts After Clogging Central Bangkok.
Was today's Wall Street Journal headline. I hope this means the protests will move on from Asok & Sukhumvit. The reports from you guys on the ground are really timely and informative. Thanks. I am still 2 months away from arrival. As of yet I don't see any reason to change my plans. Not going to pack any yellow or red T's.

I may move right away from these areas to On Nut shortly to suit GF. I have noticed there is an increasing number of cars parked in the right lane in Sukhumvit Road. This means the right lane cannot be used from Soi 20 up to Asoke. Soi 18 is probably still accessible but may not be that way in time.

I'll decide after I talk to my colleague in the morning.
On the good side, I will have a weekend in Singapore, and maybe check out Indonesia.
