59 day visa at Mactan airport
Was able to get a 59 day visa right at CEB, no hassles and really quick despite the large crowd passing through. When I first walked down the ramp and entered the immigration area I thought "Oh shit, I'm going to be here all f'ing night!".
When you enter the immigration area look to the left of the booths, there's a single door there marked "Supervisor's Office". It was open with a few people inside (officers and travelers) , even so I still knocked and was motioned in. The Captain in charge was the closest and I asked him if I could get a 59 visa there or would I have to go to the BIA office in Mandaue. He motioned me right to his desk and said it wouldn't be problem. I gave him my passport, which already contained the completed immigration form and 3, 000p. He scanned my passport, the immigration form and did a quick NBI computer check; then he called over a junior officer and sent him off to the cashier.
We started to chat about how busy it was (three planes with mostly Koreans and Chinese) , he expressed his frustration about the Chinese and especially the Koreans (I won't repeat the derogatory remarks he used, but he had me laughing so hard I was almost in tears!). He was ranting primarily about their utter lack of being able to accurately fill out the simple immigration form, despite the fact that the majority of them seemed to have fair to good knowledge of English. He told me that he really appreciated the fact that I had my paper work filled out properly and money ready. In just a few minutes the other officer returned with the receipt, my passport and change (the visa fee = 2, 273. 50p). The Captain, after stamping my passport and making the necessary notations, then escorted me past the immigration booths (I'm sure much to the consternation of some of my fellow passengers as well as the many other travelers, LOL). All in all, I think to entire process took less then 10 minutes.
