In Cebu the office is to the right of the immigration counters. Ignorance is not a defence in most parts of the world when it comes to immigration.

In general a real mix of people and dress codes were there when I visited. Did not seem an issue but sometime looking smarter at thee types of place may help Just my view.

PJ suggest you trade in more than the duct tape and flip flops etc LOL.

I'll be there for a little less than a week (Sunday to Thursday, fly out morning), and wanted to check out one of the more low-key islands and just unwind on the beach (thinking Siquijor or something similar).

Also wanted to spend one, maybe two nights in Cebu.

Is it possible / advisable to go Cebu first, try to find a girl that I click with, and bring her with me for the week? (I'm assuming there won't be anything in these secluded areas).

Or better to enjoy the beach and then check out Cebu for a night before flying out?

What do the experienced PI members think? Is one night in Cebu enough to get a taste?

If you do not have things planned out, the chances are slim for you to just show up and meet someone that you click with by chance encounter within a few hours of your boots on the ground and convince someone to go away with you. Sure it could happen, but not many Filipinas will drop everything to go be your beach fling for a few days without the promise of a longer term relationship for some dude that just showed up. School is in session (that hurts your chances some) and a lot of Filipinas have a job.

The guys that might tell you don't worry it's easy to meet and find someone have chatted with a long list of filipinas for days, weeks sometimes months before arrival. Sure maybe 5 years ago it was easy to smile and charm a Filipina right out of her jeans at the drop of a hat, but Cebu is changing. Too many foreigners have visited Cebu and acted the fool, now a lot of Filipinas are wary and want to take some time to get to know the imported sausage. You do not have the time to wait mate. The gals that spread within hours of meeting are pros, which is not a bad thing just not my thing. I prefer the non-pro GFE thing if I put some work into it. Up to you what you're looking for.

You could go the barfine route and rent a GRO for a few days, that would be your best bet if you do not already have prospects lined up in advance. Personally I would not take a GRO to another island or to a resort without knowing them fairly well and testing them out in and out of bed. GRO's tend to demand more, provide less and generally act up when they do not get their way and spin the Kano into doing what they want. They promise you the World in the bar but when it comes time to deliver you might find out you're SOL.

Just a heads up, you're visiting during the rainy season. Typhoons are common this time of the year, and if one hits when you have to make your way to the airport to catch a flight you might not make it back. Ferries and flights into some of the smaller airports will stop for 24 hrs+ when a typhoon is near. LPA are more common and the rain can come down in buckets for hours then nice sunshine for a few hours then back to raining cats and dogs. YMMV mate.

Also Siquijor is locally known as the home of 'white ladies' AKA ghosts. The island has a local reputation for being haunted, so getting any Filipina to go there and over-night might be a difficult task. They take that stuff seriously.

Your best bet would be to line up at least a dozen solid possibilities online before arrival. Most will disappear when you arrive and some will have 'selective memory' about promising you things online. If you line up at least a dozen possibilities at least 2 or 3 might come through and you can pick the one that you click best with to island hop.

If I were in your shoes I would go to Cebu and spend time with Filipinas you met online. Then take day trips to Oslob to swim with the whale sharks or to visit a beach resort on Mactan with a cutie. Just buy a day pass that includes a buffet lunch. Enjoy the beach within an hour taxi ride from Ayala Mall.

Up to you mate, but either way enjoy the Philippines.

Just split your time between Manila and Cebu. 3 nights Manila (Ermita / Malate area) and 3 nights in Cebu city, near downtown area, by the action. Skip the "low-key islands" for now. One nght in Cebu is not enough for anything. If going Cebu to Manila and back home, don't make the flights too tight; this is the P. I. , expect your Cebu to Manila flight to be late / delayed, etc. If you want more info, or a preliminary itinerary setup for you, PM me and I will make suggestions.

The area is getting increasingly hostile towards expats / foreigners. Several attacks within the last year or so started when a foreigner sits and drinks on the corner or in one of the area bars. A loud alcohol fueled mouth or misunderstanding / sarcasm has gotten more than a few long noses broken. Colon is also a pick-pocket hotspot and scam central. Not the best place for a first time visitor to hang out and make friends IMO.

Not a lot of "action" going on these days unless the preferred date is high mileage shabu addicts. Years ago the Junquera basketball court provided decent short time dates and was relatively safe to venture in and around but those days are gone. I think the local morality crackdown back in 2010 curbed a lot of the action. Shabu has grown in popularity and so has the desperation of the people using and as a result I do not recommend the area.

Colon area houses several large female only student dorms. It was easy to meet a local pimp around Sanciangko or Jakosalem (pre 2010) who would offer me several students. I used to sit and drink a cold SML at the sarix2 near Our Place while he went to round up the talent. All it took was a 50 php up front tip. Some real gems were available ST for a blue note plus 200 php pimp payment.

These days I walk around Colon during the day to shop without too many issues. I visit the night market on occasion but I do not venture farther outside of the market. Just not worth it IMO.

If you're a bigger guy, younger or like to venture into some of the poorer areas then have at it, but I would not suggest a first time visitor stay in the Colon area. YMMV.

Whoops. Lost my bearings. By downtown I meant the fuente osmena circle area, not the colon area. I usually stay at Summit Circle hotel, which is inexpensive, and located above Robinson's dept. Store. Everyone knows where it is, very safe and secure. Very close to a lot of bars, can actually walk, or take short taxi ride. As soon as you check in you can go down to the lobby, then take another elevator down to Robinson's supermarket and load up on water, etc. Usual fastfood is available in the mall also, along with an internet caf. Enjoy.

I stayed at Summit Circle back when it was Midtown. I did not like it and never went back. I remember one senior member who was about to visit Cebu for the first time that PM'd me asking for info on the hotel. I sent him my thoughts on the hotel and he sent me back a message that said he already booked. LOL, then why the heck ask AFTER he booked! He posted on the forum a week later saying that he stayed only a few days and checked out early and went to another hotel.

I found a better hotel at a cheaper price, but if you enjoy SC that's all that matters.

From about 8 am till after midnight on many days (there is an evening street fair that closes off vehicle traffic on Colon at night, from the shopping center to the Gaisano mall), there is a crush of humanity moving on the streets (great place to get your pockets picked) day and night. The sidewalks and streets are in terrible condition, making it difficult to walk in the daytime, much less evenings.

The first night I was looking for a specific girl, who was not there (the hawk lied, she had moved out near Christmas). He tried to get me to take a different girl (they lined up 9 or 10 girls, including one whom I reported before made trouble in the room and extorted money). I moved on. In the taxi back to the hotel the hawk wanted to take me to another dorm, so off we went. A lineup of 3 cuties, and I took one, p700. The hawk asked for p50 and I gave it to him. Back to the Stroker's comments: Pelaez, Colon, Sanciangko, Junquera and Osmena streets are not the best place for gringos to be hanging around day or night. If you must meet someone there, do so at the Gaisano Metro mall, or the McDo across the street, and have a taxi drop you off and another pick you up.

Stroker mentions a bar / restaurant called "Our PLace". It's worth a visit. The stairs up to the second floor are not the easiest to navigate. Get a window seat for a fine view of downtown Cebu, have a beer or a meal, enjoy the sleazy decor, flirt with the waitresses, meet alcoholics who live in Cebu. Some of the old timers that pop in can be useful for good information, but some of them are obnoxious also. X.

Our Place is a bar on Sanciangko and Pelaez. It's been there forever.

The beer is ice cold. After lukewarm beer in the karaoke places I don't mind paying extra for cold beer.

They have good Western food, especially the breakfasts.
