My .02 Don't like it don't read it.
Now I've had boots on a the ground for about 2weeks now and I've been in Sosua for about a week of the 2. I can unequivocally say that I have never seen so many Americans here and I can say I'm sick and tired of see'n the cops harassing the chicas. Now putting both of those items into perspective I can see how they are directly related to one another.
Unfortunately I'm seeing a lot of disrespect from the visitors to the locals. I know we come here and make the most of our time and money but when ppl come over to my house they don't come in a kick over my fuck'n TV and [CodeWord140] on my floor. IMHO I think some of these visitor need to exercise a little class and respect for the locals. I'm not saying ppl should be naive but DUDE?
I'm all for a man making a buck but over the years our paradise has been exposed and videos/video producers like this and some others that I won't name have brought so much attention here that this added attention has evoked a response from the powers that be here. The shit sucks. Only share with those that do what you do.
I don't see as many cops back home like I've seen this week here in Sosua. Things are changing here and the question is are you ready to adapt to the change.
Very Bad business in Sosua!!
So, I haven't posted in this forum in a while because most of the information tends to be repetitive but I feel the need to post about a recent untasteful experience in Sosua (amongst other things). Once I landed, I had a friend waiting to pick me up from the airport. My stay was planned to be a short one and I really didn't want to take a taxi or motoconcho everywhere. So I decided I wanted to rent a car for a few days. The first quote I was quoted at the airport was 70 dollars per day with insurance. Lmfao. Are you serious was my reaction. No thanks I'll find something cheaper. Next company quoted 60, and the original one then told me 55. Then some guy is draggin by my arm and in my face saying what kind of car you need wha kie wha kie. Eh eh. Now, remembering that a few months ago that I rented a car from the airport for 40 dollars WITH insurance just pissed me off even more. So, Ok ok ok ok. After all of this I was mentally frustrated and just said, the hell with the airport rentals I'll find something when I get to Sosua.
So I settled my things in Hotel Europa and started to make my ways around. On foot! While I was walking toward Classicos from Europa. I noticed there was a car rental spot on the right hand side of the street. I was quoted 35 dollars a day (with insurance) by this cool ass dude Ricardo and he said they'll drop me to the airport when I'm done. I said no problem I'll get the car tomorrow. Next day I came back and spoke with the "jefe" and said I wanted to rent the car. Could you believe this mthrfckr told me 50 dollars per day (w insurance). I explained to him I was quoted a different price from Ricardo, to which he said sorry he couldn't help me on that price. I decided to bite the bullet and pay the 50 dollar a day rental in cash. He also explained to me that a ride to the airport is included. I took the car for three days and paid 150 up front and gave him my Credit card to which he put a security deposit of 150 on it. He said it will be returned to me once I bring the car back. Why the f did I do that. Smh!
So anyway I became cool with Ricardo he hung out with me and some friends during my stay. Even hooked me up with a chica or two. So on my last day (departure) Ricardo met me at my hotel where I was staying. While I was getting my things the "Jefe" was driving around and saw him. He told him to tell me that I have to pay an extra 20 for a ride to the airport! That piece of s-t muthrfckr I said to myself. I said to Ricardo that it was included with the rental. He said he knew that but the reason why he did that was because I'm not a Dominican and he only extends courtesy to Dominicans or cuts breaks to them. Ricardo also expressed his disgust to him as well. I'm assuming He thought I was Hatian because I am black and my other friend that came with me was Hatian and speaking Creole to him. But I am not hatian! The principal is, his word said that I'm getting a ride to the airport which is included and he lied to me rig in front of my face! So, as furious as I was, I told Ricardo to take me to the airport and I gave him gas money to fill the car up. BAD MISTAKE!
When I got home I checked my credit card statement that bastard manager didn't return my security deposit. I'm currently disputing the charge 150 dollars at that! Moral of the story. Don't rent any cars from this guy. Once again this place is located on the same side of the street as Europa but going in the direction of Classicos disco. Its on the next block after Europa right after those two bars. If any of you guys plan on goin down there or is down there now, don't waste a cent on this guy! And I would personally appreciate it if you tell the manager to go F himself and you know how he does business! Very Very Very shady character. Karma is a mother fckr!
Which going on makes me say!
I'm a believer in "good business" over the fast buck! Dominicans to me seem horrible at good marketable business! They seem to be out for the fast buck only! Completely forgetting that this can and possibly will be a returning customer in the near future. This seems to be the mentality of 80 percent of the people that do business there. I am not making a blanket statement and saying that all Dominicans are like that but I'm speaking from my experience. And my mentality adapts to everything else. For example I rent an apartment from this french lady every now and then when I visit. She hounds me to turn off the lights when I leave, but wants to charge more for air conditioner but then never changes the bed sheets? So come to think about it what exactly am I paying for? I bring my own stuff but the point that I'm trying to make is the business owner need to look at the bigger picture!
And as far as the car rental goes, how can you,
You give me a piece of shit Honda Crv with 4 bald tires running on fumes of gas, Cd player not working, ball joints worn to shit, a/c blowing cold and hot air, and steering out of alignment and expect me to take you, better yet your business seriously or even charge 50 dollars for that vehicle! Then insult me and my money by telling me I have to pay for a ride to the airport to which your piece of shit vehicle will be getting more fuel in it then what it originally had.
In my opinion that's why people have such a problem with businesses out there. Whats so hard about keeping it simple/cheap honest /and realiable?
All I want to do when I go down there is drive around in a safe reliable vehicle, fuck the biggest roundest asses that I can find, drink to my hearts content, hang out on the beach, and make new friends, and not be harassed!
That's not too much to ask! Dominican Republic can and will you ever be able to provide this for me? Most of my trips are good but never consistent! One thing always over weighs another.
Smh. Guess thats the way the cookie crumbles. My venting is done!
