I don't want to clog up the board but was curious how Thailand stacks up to the Philippines, Macau, Hong Kong and Singapore? I really enjoyed my first trip to Thailand and am planning a return, found the Thai people very friendly. Also found getting around was very easy, researching the trip was straightforward and at no time did I feel like I was in any danger of being robbed. Did I pick the right asian destination out of the hat? I never consulted anybody on which asian country to visit, just picked Thailand out of the blue.

Overall Thailand is still number one on my list for mongering and shopping and touring, it have everything you want and I been to many country all over the world yes you are right Thai people are very friendly.

Yes, Singapore is much cleaner than Bangkok, but all that cleanliness gets boring fast. And for mongering, there is simply no comparison. Last time I was in Singapore I went with a beautiful small Viet lady from Ipanema bar in Orchard Tower. 350 S $ for an all nighter, which is about 2 to 3 times the rate you'll find easily in Bangkok's agogo clubs. if you like white skinned girls with big tits, then singapore is the better place to go, not bangkok or pattaya. in singapore you can bang a very hot young vietnamese female for only 600 baht (about 20 usd). you won't find prc, vn, indo, e indian & pi p4 p gals in thailand, but they are easily located in sg. pi gals are famous for being the best for gfe, though i've enjoyed gfe with various nationalities in sg & los.

singapore is a first world country, so obviously superior to any 3rd world nation like thailand in many ways. for example in much of siam you cannot find decent medical care. although if you are in a hotel in the nep area of bkk, then it's much the same as being in a first world destination. there is, for example, a world class hospital just down the street.

generally speaking singapore is way safer, better policed & more politicly stable than los. unlike thaksinland you can drink the tap water in sg, safely walk the streets anywhere in the middle of the night, english is widely spoken written and understood, scams are rare, & the long list goes on & on for pages.

hardly any of the posters here in the thailand forum have been to & researched the places you refer to. you'd be better off asking on the pertinent forums where people are intimately familiar with the respective area. reading the separate isg forums on the places you mentioned should give you some clues re what each of the places has to offer. i'd recommend the "reports of distinction" as an excellent starting point.

Anyone have a favorite hotel in BKK? I'd like to keep it around $40 - $50. I'm sure everyone likes to be near the transit.

For a short stay I like "Citypoint Hotel", 50 m from the exit of BTS station Asoke and 5 minutes from Soi Cowboy. Between 2000 and 2500 baht per night. Modern, clean and guest-friendly if you book your room for double occupancy. For a longer stay I like a serviced apartment but that is well above your budget.

I never heard of City Point. Just went to trip advisor and it gets excellent reviews. Looks like Wolvenvacht found a gem there. I recommend S Sukhumvit Suites. On Sukhumvit between Soi 23 and Soi Asoke. Outstanding location for mongers. Great for old guys like me that don't want to walk far in the BKK heat. 60 second walk to MRT, BTS, Soi Cowboy, Terminal 21.

Another great one is On8. There is an escolater at the hotel front door that takes you up to the Nana BTS station. Saves a lot of walking in that heat. Great for Soi 11, Soi 7 and 7/1, Bier Garten, Nana Plaza. My On8 room was a good value but it had a frosted glass as opposed to a real window.

I strongly prefer to stay on the odd numbered soi side of Sukhumvit. The area between Soi 11 and Soi Nana is alway hopping.

I also recommend Bigati visit the Bangkok Hotel thread. Lots of exellent info there.
