I normally get the number of the cabby that brought me to MBC in first place and txt him to pick me up latter. Just tip the guy few peso and you will be fine. Much better option then arguing with the malate taxi mafia late at night.
It is prudent to catch a running taxi from Mabini street. Just exit MBC and go north through the small st where there are few mideastern restaurents to Mabini. Mabini is a major st where you can find cruising taxis all hours.
Never catch cruising taxis from del pilar. These cabbies know what MBC is and all forigners hang out there. In other words farther away you catch the taxi from MBC, it is better. Beware that some girls are shady as well.
She may pretend to go to ladies room before going with you and calling some cabbie she knows for a set up. Never get into the cab suggested by the girl.
So why go with the girl if you don't trust her?
So why go with the girl if you don't trust her?
If that were the way things worked I'm sure half the guys would never go with any girls. I for one never trust the girl, I act like I do, but unless I'm wasted my guard is way up all the time.
Has any one stayed at the New Horizon Hotel and can you give me a review? 2nd I have a girl that I am going to see in manila and she is the only one that will know where I stay. I'm wondering is there so cheap hotels that I can take a few chicks I meet, non pros just girls I meet randomly as I don't want them to know where I am staying?
So why go with the girl if you don't trust her?
All I am saying is be on your guard. Girl involved in the scam has happened few times.
Wow, now I'm doubly glad that I'm flying direct to Cebu and giving Manila the big miss!
MD can you clarify what you mean by "robbed. In the airport"? Do you been force was used, or was it the standard over charge?
SNIP.
I have only been robbed in taxis in the airport and while driving by the police.
Taxi driver tried to rob me an one tried to extort me once I was in the vehicle.
So even taxis are not safe.
Got to really be ready to run fight or give up some cash?
I had one guy trying hard to 'find' a cab, and when I waved a cab down, he opened the door and asked me 100 peso. For what? For booking the cab.
Well, rule # 1. Never [CodeWord140] off the natives. I just smiled and told him that the driver is my friend. And before anything transpir.
As for the PutaPlaya, the cops would have been regular cops trying to do a school tuition bonus. If you been in Philippines, you will know. There are seasons when everybody is in need of $. And seasons when robberies go up. Like Christmas time.

It is cheaper than the hotel taxi and a good and safe solution. I stay normally in Makati and with my regular taxi driver I have not faced any hassles when going to MBC and especially when leaving there.

Yes, guys the more I think about it the more clear it becomes to me that this was no fake cops scam ala Latin America. This *probably* must have been real police that are just that crooked to extort money from me like that. The shirt, real looking I'd badge, stopping at stations to let people off. Real pro con artists don't need to run such a realistic game for such small sums. Nevertheless the outcome could have been horrible if I called their bluff, ran again, or whatever. Good thing that I believed they were just con artists and played along. Else I might be sitting in jail or worse.
I am out of Manila now because I repeated on an MBC girl and the second time I agreed to session her, she decided that I was going to be her boyfriend or something whether I agree or not. So she was getting ready to ruin my cheap mongering spot for me, and my time was running short anyway, so I cut my drama potential and left. She mentioned that she was out with a friend and was thinking about stopping by my room unannounced one night. Yikes I don't like that. I was about to get the full Pinay treatment that I hear so much about, so I decided to leave town since I knew this girl was about to start stalking me. Threatened to come looking for me if she finds herself pregnant, as if she doesn't take the pill like every other WG in the world, or furthermore as if I am the only one she rides BB. I recommend not repeating on any of these girls unless you want to become locked down and unable to move freely through the herd at MBC.
The P. I is the most dangerous Asian mongering country IMHO. You won't find a "robbed near" section in any of the other Asian forums. When catching a taxi from MBC, I always grab one that is dropping off foreigners at the bar. I believe they are more likely to be regular taxi drivers, not robbers.
Puta Playa I am guessing you were dealing with real cops. They treated you differently in the hope of a bigger payoff. I doubt the other people in the van could pay as much as you. Thanks for sharing your story. It reminds all of us to be more vigilant when mongering abroad. And thanks to all for sharing safety tips. They are valuable for newbies and veterans alike.
To Allover,
I don't think is danger everywhere in PI mainly Manila one of the most danger in the world other than Mexico city, I feel safe in place like Baguio and Cebu city.

There are a couple of ways to avoid this. First, stay in a hotel in which no one can just walk in and go to your room. That is, stay in a place with decent security-say with key cards for the lift or decent guards-and tell the hotel management that no one is permitted to your room unless accompanied by you. If you do get the random knock on the door, don't open it. Call security and have the person escorted out. Second, if the aforementioned doesn't appeal to you, change rooms. Go to another floor, another room on the same floor, or another hotel. Third, don't give the girl your correct name, and surely not your family name. That way, if you've changed your room and in a place with slack security, she still couldn't find you. And finally, tell the people at the front desk that you want them to phone you in your room in the event anyone comes asking for you.
I cannot imagine being hounded out of Manila, or anywhere else, by some random pick up from the night before.

To all you guys mongering in the Phillipines, have you ever seen any girls that look like the Filipino pornstar Charmane Star?
Just asking, as I'm trying to work out what the quality of the girls is like out there. Plus I think she's really hot!

I doubt it. You should read the Shanghai thread, where reports of being drugged in one bar or another and being taken for multiple credit card charges of up to US$15, 000 or being blackmailed by a gang using WGs as baits are rather common. Worse still in Shanghai you could be kidnapped by touts for a ransome. I am just saying. I've never been to Shanghai and probably never would go there, at least not for mongering.

I know both places quite well and consider Shanghai not dangerous if using common sense.
That does not apply to Donguan and Shenzhen though.

GE
I don't understand some of this. Maybe I'm totally fortuitous, or maybe I select well, or maybe my freebies are totally trouble free, but in past 20 years of mongering I had one strange situation with police in Fort Bonifacio. I had one nutcase in Malaysia which caused me to change my phone. And thats the only slightly off kilter stuff thats ever happened. Maybe fortuitous, good Karma or whatever.
