Excellent advice from Bubba.
If anyone thinks the Brasilian police system is straightforward, pop along to a cinema and watch Elite Squad II. Admittedly it's about BOPE and drugs, but it provides what is generally believed to be an exceedingly authentic view of how entrenched and complex police corruption is through the ranks. (Pretty good movie too.)

From looking at the above brazilian forums (in chrome browser on translate) , it appears:
- the locals are starting to go to Mosaico.
- they confirm the top tier termas and some frees are heading there at midnight.
And from looking at the location on a inet map program (attached, please confirm) :
- it is as proximate to Estacio Metro as the other metro mentioned.
- and proximate (300 meters) from Malaga Motel, a location for 59R per noites (8 PM to 12 noon, next day) , suggesting: check in at Malaga 8 PM for per noite, cab or walk over to Mosaico, and back to Malaga 2 or 4 AM to noon.
Finally:
- all above proximate to metro for the prives (Anne's; Mix; Bel Prazer; Tigresa).
Thanks to all on this excellent board!
(BTW, wonder if the Military Policia ever wander over the 100 meters to mosaico. VM?)

Mosaico pic
Yes, that is exactly the right place. Like I said: black awning, black-and-white tiles on the patio in front of the glass door.
Excellent recon work!

Just a few comments to avoid confusions for people who might want to visit Mosaico or Vila Mimosa.
Metro station Estácio is much further away from VM than the São Cristóvão metro station.
Mosaico is at least a 600 metres walk from Mosaico.
PM 100 metres away???
Patmar, Mosaico lies in Vila Mimosa. A 5 minutes walk north from Praça da Bandeira.

Pro forma day
It seems substituting prive for agency goes from 120r to 50r
It seems substituting mosaico for 4*4 goes from 220r to 110r.
It seems on days pernoite 16 hours at malaga instead of barao do flamenco goes from 69r to 59r.
By incorporating this into a 14 day trip, for some days, one could manage Dois Bunda boa for 220r a day.
Allows more brlusd to higher end Bunda on other days.
I will do some maps of the distances from metro estacio to mosaico and motel malaga which Brazil bloggers describe as great value. Distance from estacio metro to mosaico is longer but malaga motel gives el cheapo base in 300 meters of mosaico.

Hungrystud is going through classic withdrawals, out of the area of operations. Go easy on the man.
Intervention not required until I love her and I just sent ten grand by western union.
Ahhh of course this is Rio and you can buy yourself out of any problem. Just as Big Ernie McCraken proclaimed when he won the World Championship of bowling in Reno in the 1996 Documentry "King Pin," and I quote.
"This Means Big Ern can buy his way out of any problem. Big Ern is above the law."
You guys are probably right. I have been pushing the envelope a little lately. It is the fucking rush of this hobby you know.
Why would you put the money in your suitcase. That is where they will look. Put it in a obscure place like the oven or in between the bed. I mean the very middle where her hands couldn't reach unless you werent on the bed sleeping!

One other thing I forgot to mention. Never bring the whole amount you plan to spend in cash! You brought 2500. Big mistake. Bring half in cash and leave the other half in your checking account. Use a credit card for that amount or debit card if you don't have a cc. I always use my card for as much as possible when I go to the termas and restaurants. That really allows me to have less cash on me. If your going to do 7 girls at your apartment then you need 150 x 7 plus cash for small food items and sucos. Thats it. The rest you can use your card at the termas and restaurants. Other tip. Don't GET DRUNK. PERIOD! Have a beer or 2. You can get drunk in the states. Too many bad things happen when your drunk. As you now know.

Real map to VM

I think all of our scales a are a bit off. So here is a google map capture with VM and Mosaico. Also in this map are the Sao Cristavo metro station in the lower middle left and the bus stops at Praca de Bandeira in the lower right. At the top middle of the map is the military police building that someone mentioned. I also positioned the map that the scale of 100m is in the lower left. Now we can see that the walk from the bus stop to Mosaico is 400 to 500 m already, the walk from Soa Cristavo metro is quite a bit longer, could be up to 1 km. The walk from the other metro station is yet considerably longer, by a factor of 2.

I agree, my estimates were inaccurate. Mosaico to Malaga is 600m walk. 400m on a map (attached) , at least, and the walk from Estacio to Mosaico would be twice as long as from the Sao Cristovao metro.
What I was thinking about is a lodging pattern where you go from Estacio Metro to Malaga, check in for per noite for the 59R rate at 8 or even 7.
Then cab (probable) or walk from Malaga to Mosaico for the 11 PM to 3 AM prime time.
Then cab (probable) /walk back to Malaga.
What is the availability of cabs like at Mosaico at midnight to 3 AM?
Correct me if wrong, but taking the bus or metro from Mosaico (Sperto's VM map) is to get back to lodging in Copa apartment or similar, out of the VM area.

There are always taxis waiting for customers in VM. Some of them might be a rip-off.
Going back to Copa you have the option of metro or bus. Late in the evening I prefer taking the bus (455) from Praça da Bandeira. It goes really quick at night. The metro closes at midnight.

Obrigado for the great intel! Obrigado to Sperto for the intel about taxi rip offs!
Are the yellow cabs always on the meter / regulated, or are some of those rip off cabs too?
It appears from the Sperto VM map that the shortest walk is from the 455 bus stop to VM, Mosaico. It appears the walk from 455 is shorter from any of the Metro stops discussed?
I was looking for a bus route of the 455 on the inet? Anyone have a link?
Obrigado, alles!

But no big deal either way. The metro closing at midnight is a problem, however. So the bus is definitely preferable.
Taxis: some of the yellow taxi guys just do not turn on the meter and then quote you fantasy prices. So you need to be careful right as you get in. If the guys does not turn on the meter, just get out again.
