I've enjoyed reading the last 7 pages of this forum. Chock full of good reports, encouraging comments and helpful tips with very little bullshit to wade through. I'm based in Thailand and the difference between this board and ours is significant. Over the years the value of our posts has eroded significantly. Much of that, certainly not all, is because some members like to criticize other people's posts as not being a valid contribution. Like how to deal with the taxis. I very much appreciate reading the details so I know how it works when I return. I've been there only 3 times in the past few years but dropped in to catch up on the scene as it is today. Keep up the good work guys, I think this forum is basically a good example of how we should be doing it.

Last trip I went upstairs again (the departures level / which has 4 different atm's on each side iirc). I walked to the end on the left as there are less people, no cops this time and lots of place for a taxi to stop and pull over. The drivers, mostly bluebirds, look at you and check if you signal in the Indonesian way. I never get really used to that waiving style. I open the trunk (driver stays seated) , throw in my baggage, get in and drive off. No waiting cues (2 seconds for a taxi. 20 seconds if you are picky) , no airport charge, just the metered price + toll. It is a huge bonus already that they can take someone back from the airport. As bluebirds get payed bonuses for an active day and have more chance for another tip.

If the airport security / guidance guys whistle the driver explained courtesy is that they drop 2000 IDR as a thank you gift.

Does anyone know if there is a massage service (other then just the foot reflexology) somewhere in the airport?

By the way, on the question of the surfeit of detail in my posts, I try to use detail as Jan van Eyck uses detail in Arnolfini Portrait. Not to pin point but to add tone, texture, hue and colour. And make everything more intense, more vivid.

Detail in sex writing that is merely accurate descends into pornography (which may be exciting for some but likely to be detested by many as tedious).

My aim was to create an interesting read (with credibility) ; not a factoid (with authenticity). The nail biting evident in some of the comments fearing that the protagonist's identity might be revealed suggests, I've achieved my aim in some measure.

I am not saying that your trepidation about my posts (Alpha Cue's posts titled 'Virgin trip to Jakarta. Day 1 and Day 2', #7381 & #7384) are not well founded. But the assumptions. About my personal circumstance. That underlie that trepidation do not apply.

Relevantly, I am not saying what you appear to have presumed about me may not apply to another poster out there somewhere. Indeed if there is such a poster, let's all hope that poor sod takes heed of your wise counsel.

In the meantime, let me clear up some possible, misconceptions about me and my TR:

No, of course 'Yeni' is not the girl's real name. However, I confess my pseudonym for her was not borne out of altruism or any sense of noblesse oblige but something far more prosaic : I needed an exotic name that was befitting of the girl's magnificent face and body. 'Yeni' I am afraid was the best I could come up with. Blame it on my poor imagination!

As for the the foreboding that I might be outed by my business colleagues, I can set your mind at rest. Among my business acquaintances, my professional reputation is as well known as my reputation with the ladies. Let me assure you the legend built up by my business circle about my sexual escapades would make any TR posted in this forum tame by comparison. (I am sure you can picture my colleagues, tanked pleasantly after work, with elbows propped up on the bar talking;"Oh! That's nothing. Let me tell you about the time when he got sprung il fragante delicto right in the middle of a torrid threesome in. Of all places. Our boardroom. I am not joking! A mother-daughter combo, right? And listen, not just any mother and daughter! But the wife and progeny of the target company's CEO! I. Most defintely. Am. Not. Kidding! Ha! Ha! Slap bang in the middle of a complex due diligence, apparently!")

As for the fear that the girl herself might be outed. The fact of the matter is I don't look like the Howdy Doody guy (I know one's looks are the roll of the dice of genetics, no personal credit etc.) but a girl who goes out with someone with my looks and reputation knows she's going to get fucked. Hell, even the most naive bystander witness to my moves on a girl will know that the girl is going to get fucked. So, if there is indeed a single, innocent soul. Within the Jakarta office, who still believes that the prettiest girls I picked out to run errands were eagerly flitting between the office and my hotel suite for their own, professional development. Well, I am sanguine that there are unlikely to be many others.

As for the apprehension that my local company buddy (of all people) might deduce my identity by stumbling onto my TR. Perish the thought and wash your mouth out. He is a devoted, married man, surely, he doesn't visit mongering sites! And besides, he. Like all Indonesian married men. Has never been unfaithful and besides, he will surely find the notion of Indo girls being all over a young, good looking, single, wealthy, foreigner utterly preposterous!

And finally, as for the dread that 'Yeni' herself might be shown my TR. I wish I could show you the posts that Yeni (and some of my other 'conquests' from the Jakarta office) still leave on my facebook wall! I can guarantee there isn't a single 'non participating' co-worker of Yeni's, who reads these colourful gigling, descriptions, and who still believes that Yeni and the rest of the pretty young things learnt so much about my intimate parts by shaking my hand. Fear not on Yeni's account, she's adept at taking care of herself!

Anyway, Bro Hilo77 now that you've got me really, really spooked about being outed, I guess I can't tell you guys about the night I met these two Indonesian looking cockney flower-girls called Eliza and Martha Doolittle?

Hell if he charged the correct rate he would have received a large tip. I have had drivers get lost in order to boost the fare. Those were bluebird as well.

I tip way above the average here for taxi service or if they will get stuck in traffic after dropping me off. I just cannot stand a rip off.

The point is that bluebird / pulski and express are usually the cabs that are the safest to use. They have been cases of fake taxis. You walk in and are trapped inside with no door handles. Be safe and be smart.

Is the Mercure Hotel Kota gf and good located to the nightlife?

The drivers almost always want to take the route that will be the shortest drive and cheapest fare. I normally have to re-direct them to take the long way around since the long way around may have a higher fare, but it's faster due to traffic. I'd prefer paying a little more than sitting in that damn traffic for an hour just to save a buck or two. When I ask them why they want to take the route with the most traffic (and ask them if they are crazy to want to be stuck in that traffic) , they normally tell me that they didn't want me to get angry because they took the long way to avoid traffic because the meter would be higher.

Then again, there are some taxi drivers who ask "you want to go tollway" to get to places you can get to faster than without taking the tollway. Those guys can go screw themselves and are likely suggesting that to jack up the fare. It's a rare occasion where taking the tollway in a taxi to go anywhere within Jakarta other than the airport is a smart idea.

You need to avoid the beat up taxis that wait outside the discos at 4am, but I do think that overall, taxis in Jakarta are more honest than any other city I've ever been in. And the prices are cheap other than the Silverbirds.

I'm thinking of doing a short trip to Jakarta (out of Singapore) between August 14 and 17, and noticed that the 17th will be Independence Day. Any thoughts on how that might impact the days I am considering as far as venues being open, or anything else like lodging / transportation?

Also, will girls be back from their Ramadan travels by then?

I've been to Jakarta twice, and may consider Phnom Penh as an alternative since I have never been there. Any input comparing the two places would be welcome as well.

Thanks![/QUOTE]Independence Day is a fun time but is not really a big deal, the MPs and bars should all be open. Lodging and transportation should also not be a problem, in fact the traffic may be lighter on the 17th itself.

Yes, the girls should all be back in Jakarta by August 14th, and many of them bring their younger sisters / friends from the home village, so you should find a fresh crop of young lovelies to choose from.

Hard for me to comment on the differences between Phnom Penh and the big Durian, since I was only in Phnom Penh once, for one evening 11 years ago. I had a session at the in-house MP in one of the old colonial-style hotels on the river. The mamasan at the front door brought me into the room where the girls were and told me that I had a choice of Cambodian, Vietnamese and Thai girls; I chose a 20-ish Cambodian girl and had a great time.

I have a different opinion about this year independence day after hari raya ramadhan. Since in kampong usually it's a big day celebration, many gathered on that day for parade, festival or games in their kampong. So I think there will be delayed for coming back to work to Jakarta.

Stadium (5 min walk) , Crown (10 min walk) and Mangga Besar and its delights of Travel hotel is just round the corner. Malioboro and Classic are not far away too so you could say this is the ideal hotel for sampling the nightlife of Jakarta.

I will be visiting Jakarta for the 1st time in two weeks, will be staying at the Meridien. Could someone point me in the direction of what actions can be had in the afternoon. What places I will be able to hook up with a WL.
