Yes yes, never send money I know. Ok self admonition over.

I have a cutie who deserves a nice birthday present but I'm tired of walking to Western Union and filling in 20th century type forms. So I looked at Xoom as a means of sending money but its only available if you have a US credit card.

Western Union online transfer isn't available from the country in which I reside, neither is Paypal. Does anyone know any great ways of sending money online. ? Many thanks dear helpful brothers.

You've posted a lot of great adventures here. If one of these don't work, I have a far-fetched idea. Go to a Catholic Church on Sunday morning there in Taipei and ask any of the Filipinos there which is the best way to send money to the Philippines from Taiwan. They will know the most reliable and cheapest way. There's a lot of Filipinos going to St. Christopher's Catholic Church on ZongShan North Road just south of the Taipei Fine Arts Museum. If I remember correctly, bus #210 takes you there. I remember passing by the church on my way to the Fine Arts Museum on a Sunday morning and seeing lots of Filipinos outside standing around like they do after church. Good luck and let us know which one works best.

Its 36 degrees in Taipei right now and its a long walk to the nearest CAthay Bank (who handle WU transfers here ). Was just trying to find an online way to do this without going out into the heat.

I will be in Manilla in 2 weeks and I wanted to know if any of you fellas have any trusted taxi drivers / guides in Manilla I can use to take me to mongering venues being that I will have only 3 days to play in Manilla and I want every second to count and do not want to waste time trying to figure out the city in such a short time, thanks.

Good luck. I don't think they exist. Just make sure you get a taxi with a meter and he turns it on.

Read all the posts here. Only if you are looking for casa girls you need a guide. With those you need to be carefull of scams and extortions.

As for freelancers famous are manila bay cafe, Some bars around ermita (you can go to MBC and ask other mongers there for advice.)

As for venues there is EDSA (Moderate) and Burgos st bars (expensive)

Besides there are many massage places (all info is here)

Taxi drivers in Manila are notoriously rip off artists. Demand that they turn on the meter moment you get in.

A reasonable approach is to read up from the forum so you know in advance which of the venues you want to try first. Manila Bay Cafe and surrounding Ermita clubs, EDSA Entertainment Complex, Burgos Street bars, or the massage parlors. About two months ago I posted a file (in this thread I think) about most of the best known extra service massage parlors. There are lots of posts on the other three venues. Posters' reviews show the extreme of good and bad experiences, but also show what to expect price-wise.

As to taking a taxi, you can get your hotel doorman or security to get a taxi for you. They will generally not set you up with drivers likely to rip you off, although you should give a small tip (maybe 50 pesos) to the doorman for his help. Then, if he does not write down the number of the taxi, ask him to do so. Say it just loud enough so the driver hears your request. The reason he does this is so it's possible to track down the taxi through the taxi company if something goes wrong. Write it down yourself as well, and check to make sure his meter is on. Some drivers who cheat the meter system want a flat rate, sometimes because it's a time of heavy traffic, sometimes just because they are exploitative, and especially so with foreigners. Assuming you are a newbie, it's not a good idea to negotiate for a flat fare for a distance you don't know how to estimate. So my advice is the same as D Cups and Sammon: tell the driver to let you out immediately if he is not running his meter. The Tagalog for stop is "para."

Indeed, avoid taxis as much as possible. Get / download a good manila map and get the info off this board. Otherwise, you will turn into an ATM for some of the drivers.

I would respectfully disagree, it is better to come out of your hotel, walk a block or two, then get a cab. You do not want the hotel people to know any more about you than they have to. You do not want a call from the front desk that the mother, brother, aunt, etc, of the bargirl you are with (who is identifying you by your name) is in the lobby.

Even when I fish something out of the Manila Bay Cafe I have the girl meet me a block or two from the bar. Had a friend hassled by the police when he came out with a gal. Albeit it happened only once, but once is enough.

Make sure the cab has a meter and gas. Yes, gas. On my last trip the driver ran out of gas on Roxas on the way to the airport.
