Another option I remembered, is the place on Avenida Pasteur, about a 1/3 of a block up from the malecon and the InterContinental Hotel. Plaza Deportiva, Avenida Pasteur 8, (809) 687-2239, their sign says Club Billar (pool tables). I know people who use the batting cages there. I have not been inside, has a big parking lot, always kept neat and clean.

The military is active in all deportations and dealing with Hatian immigrants as of last week actively deported +30. Wrong, there are teams equivelant to a brigade divided in to 4 units. They all are intricately involved ln drug enforcement with one soley assigned to US DEA. Its not DNCD as that's the entire groups name. The team that is embeded / assigned to the DEA is DEPR or something.
The Army's job just as in the US is malliable dependent on the nations needs and political situations. The two task at forefront are drugs and exportation of Putas especially minors (PS. Its the rationale for the street sweeps and casa shakedowns the last few years. See elections) as they are getting pressure from the US on both fronts. As I state from my conversations with him and experience, you will know when dealing with the Dominican Military especially when an officer is present they are indeed the military. There ain't a lot of talking.

Av. George Washington also known as El Malecon (for newbies, who may be reading these posts) , at one corner with Avenida Lincoln, has the Hotel Santo Domingo. Across the street from the Hotel Santo Domingo (across avenida independencia) is the Hotel Hispaniola Hotel and Casino. Gotik disco was (or maybe still is) attached to the Hotel Hispaniola Casino (being attached to a casino, a disco can stay open all night). Years ago I visited on a Thursday evening and there was a an older, professional type crowd (gotik photo from the internet).
I walked into Hotel Santo Domingo bar / club side on a Friday / Saturday night. I was not informed by the door man that there was a 2 drink minimum and a $20 cover charge. Always ask! After 15 minutes of back and forth with the supervisor the cover was done away with and 2 drinks were consumed. Crisis averted.
