I have a 4 pm Flight out on a Monday coming up. What is anyone's experience on grabbing a cab from Suk Soi 11 at that time of day?
The main issue with travelling from Suk 11 is getting to the airport expressway. Once on the expressway traffic is generally not too bad but there is always potential for the unexpected. I usually allow about 75 min and its usually less. You can cut that a little by getting a tuk tuk to Sukhumvit and crossing the road (if bags are manageable) I just walk across as traffic is usually slow. Then when you catch a taxi its less than 5 min and you are on the expressway. If you get tempted on the Suk 8 side there is also an escalator to the BTS which makes getting on the BTS a lot easier. Did it a few weeks ago only have about 6 steps.

Leave in the other direction further into the Soi, turn left, right and left again and end up in Soi 3 with a right turn into Sukhumvit Rd. That is the quickest way by taxi to get on the Expressway. Know your back roads!

I remember one taxi driver pulling a fast one and went down the Soi, turned left to run the meter and almost caused me to miss my plane. He caught a lot of traffic that was stuck at 4 am for some reason. It took 30 minutes just to get back to Suk.
There's always been a passionate debate on this board about "tipping. " It mostly applies to tipping the girls for services provided. Some nationalities don't tip and other do. Those who do tip are often faulted for being too generously or too stingy so it's a damn if you do and damn if you don't situation.
Anyway, I hadn't been in Thailand in nearly 5 years, but on my most recent trip, I noticed something that I hadn't seen before. A 10% service charge automatically added to restaurant bills and some hotel bills.
By restaurants, I mean the sit down ones with waitresses who serve you, the kind that you find in large shopping malls like Terminal 21 and MBK in Bangkok and the big mall in Pattaya.
I also noticed that Grand President Hotel in Bangkok added a "service charge" to my bill. I'm aware some hotel's will add a VAT or some other government tax, but this charge was separately itemized as a "service charge".
I wasn't upset since I've seen the automatic inclusion of a service charge by some restaurants in the USA, Europe, and South America (a steak house in Buenos Aires). In those cases, I just don't leave a tip but I always wonder if the business pockets the service charge instead of giving the money to the serving staff.
The service charge by the hotel was, however, a surprise.
Is this automatically including a service charge something new in Bangkok / Pattaya or was I simply more diligent at looking at my bills on this trip?
That service charge is usually indicated with a "+ +" on their price listing. It means that there is a VAT charge and "service charge" added to the bill. I've found it in Fuji (Japanese fast food usually found in the malls) and it's commonly shown in rate quotes for more "upscale" rooms (like Hilton or Marriott).
So it is not "NEW" but only seen in the "Hi-so" places. Since I tend to "go native", I don't get charged that way.

I will not say ONE GOOD WORD ABOUT THE WORTHLESS CHEAPSKATE BASTARDS.
Try Thaifriendly.com for a better experience. Their "basic" account limits you to 1 message every 10 minutes. You get out of the 10 minutes between messages by buying their upgrade.
IF you get to talking to a girl and tell her to contact you on some email account you can bypass them entirely.
The only good thing to the thaifriendly upgraded account is the ability to contact the "upper 1%" who get the most messages.

Find the closest skytrain or subway station and go to any of the stops that interchange with the airport link and take the link to the airport. A LOT FASTER and CHEAPER, too. Takes you right to the basement of the terminal.
Then just get up to the 4th floor for check in and you are good to go. Check one of the monitors to see what check in letter section is your flight.
The monitor displays based on departure time.

Today looked at Bangkok Post page 2. Miss Grand beauty comp. Winners were indeed unexpectedly beautiful matching my own taste for a change. Waitress teased me and said they were lady boys. Fortunately my eyes and taste was not deceiving me and they were real beautiful girls.
There are so many non mongering topics in Bangkok Thread which is annoying.
I would encourage those with non-mongering posts to use this general thread even if Bangkok relevant.
This helps those not interested in non-mongering topics to avoid them easily.

June 1 Holiday Closures
Will all entertainment venues (oil, nuru, etc.), bars, movies, restaurants, and shopping centers be closed for this Buddhist holiday? Does anyone know what might be open and give a listing? Otherwise, I have to stock up on beer for that day. Thanks.

Not a great strategy if it is 37 degrees as you will be a hot sweaty mess in no time.
Not a great strategy if is raining as you will not be under cover the entire time.
I find an air conditioned taxi with the convenience of door to door service is all things considered the best way to go. Of course as always YMMV.

SL.
I totally agree with Sunlover2 on this one. It seems that Mr Dinghy prefers to talk in all capital letters when making a point. That's when you should stop listening.
I am in BKK about every other month. I often use the Airport Express train to go from BKK airport to Sukhumvit, especially when I arrive at 6 am in the morning and there is no real rush to get to the hotel. My hotel room might not be ready for check-in anyway. On the return journey I virtually always use a cab: (1) It is cheap. Make sure you go by meter and the fare will be less than 300 baht plus tolls. (2) You will be dry. In torrential Bangkok rain you can be soaked through in 5 seconds, vey uncomfortable when you are about to board a 12 hour flight. (3) Don't believe Dinghy. Taxi is faster than tuk-tuk + BTS + Airport Express going to the airport. Of course, if your hotel is right next to Makkasan or Phaya Thai then I would not hesitate to use the train.

I was reading interesting article, anyone come across the nipple gang? Basically these women will either roofie your drink or use Rohypnol on their nipples so when guy sucks on them they get knocked out and all their valuables stolen.

http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/245985/Thai-tarts-rob-British-tourists-in-sex-drug-scam
Yes. It's called, in most circles, "Urban Legend. ".
If said girl really held the pill under her tongue it would dissolve and she would be the one knocked out. Liquid spread on a nipple will be absorbed through the skin. I reasonably large guy will need, what, 2 or 3 MG of the stuff to produce unconsciousness? You'd be hard pressed to get that much off of a nipple. And if the liquid was that strong the lady would also be affected.
All credible reports I've ever read, or heard about from the victim, involved spiked drinks. Yes, I'm saying this particular tabloid is a bit lacking in the credibility department. Note the distinct lack of specifics.
