I went to Istanbul intending to look for Turkish women but on the first day I met a fellow tourist from Japan at Aya Sofiya and spent most of the time with her. But as someone who has been spoiled by slim, petite beauties from farther east, I can't say my neck got particularly sore from double takes. There are some lookers here and there. And if you spend enough time in town I'm sure you can find what you're looking for, pro or non-pro. But in general the percentage of easy on the eyes women in Istanbul is average at best. Any East Asian country, Dubai, Addis Ababa and probably lots of Latin countries have more to look at.

Night Places: Tons of places to go with a girlfriend for a nice dinner with a view. I also went to Kemancil (street level floor and one floor down) and Yaga. The band downstairs at Kemancil was good. In the street level bar the back room that overlooks the Bosporus was a good place to take a girl. There were a couple of instances when I got eye contact from tables of girls. Not sure what kind of chances I would have had alone. I never saw any girls on their own. Mostly they were in groups and keeping to the group, not looking around. Istaklil Street near Taksim Square has endless cafes to sit and people watch. It may be possible to meet some girls in these places, or by browsing in shops around here.

Hotel: I stayed in Golden Age 1 in Taksim, part of a package of flight and 3 days. I think the cost of the hotel came to about $50. It was certainly guest friendly, at least if you have a girl that doesn't look slutty. Otherwise the place is just ok, bad smells everywhere, indifferent breakfast, rooms on the small side.

Scammers: As a tourist I was constantly bothered by carpet and handicraft sellers. At times I would talk to them, even went into one carpet shop even though I had zero interest. They'll often try to say to come for a cup of coffee, no obligation to buy, bla bla bla. But all the while it's relentless selling. Eventually I reverted to just ignoring them completely, even to the point of bumping one guy out of the way who tried to block my path. But really it wasn't as bad as other places like Cairo.

Costs: Istanbul was a little more expensive than I was expecting. 6M lira for a small bottle of beer, 12M cover charges with one drink. These are pretty close to Dubai (close to where I live) prices. The other posts I see here of 100 bucks for an hour or 200 for longer don't really impress. One final insult was at the airport where they wanted almost $9 for a can of coke, a candy bar and a small bag of chips. Maybe the effect of the weaker dollar/higher euro?

Damla: I want to thank Big Bro AJ for generously sharing her number. I called her just before I met the Japanese girl. Both Hyatt Regency and Hilton are about 15 minutes to Aksaray (action scene).

I would recommend Hyatt Regency. It has more interesting places, better cousine, newer hotel....Try the Italian Restaurant Spazio at Hyatt; it is the second best in town. Also visit its Gossip night club. Classy !
