Still in the mountains Wiffed up enjoying the interaction with normal Dominicans. Kind of interesting the drastic reduction in color variation and holding to social norms. Still a casa and quickly hotel about but done in a very low-key manor. I'm supposed to go with a friend I met to one called villa geogis or jogee later next week.

As everyone else says, the rooms are small with not a lot of room around the bed, this does not bother me too much, I do not spend much time in the room except to sleep and fuck. The wifi varies depending on the location of the room, there are routers on each floor so usually one of them works for you.

The bathrooms are average, always had hot water. There is a digital safe in the closet.

The best part for me is the free breakfast, the buffet is very good including fresh juices and fruit. Keep in mind this hotel has a mix of clientele, from missionary groups heading to Haiti to local businessmen to mongers.

I usually go with my novia but when she is visiting family I have brought other chicas back without a problem, a few pesos to the security guy on the door works wonders.

The only caution I have is that they take a deposit (1000 pesos I believe) to cover the use of the minibar (very high priced) , if you do not use anything you get the deposit back at the end of your stay. The problem is they do not offer to give it back, you have to ask which I forgot to do on my last visit. My fault I realise but would be nice if they reminded you, easy money for them,

I have no reason to look for a different hotel in SD at this point. Cannot beat the location in the Zona Colonial IMHO.

The Mercure breakfast buffet costs 200 pesos. For the Mercure room rate, you could stay one street away at Penalba, not pay guest fees, and have money to spare. Have fun.

One block west of Hotel Mercure Comercial on El Conde, there is a Jumbo Express supermarket, that has good prices for food stuffs (beer, soda, water, chips, rum, wine and other bottles of alcohol). Across the street from Jumbo Express supermarket is a hardware store that also sells some fishing gear.

Also one block west of Hotel Mercure Comercial is a department store called California, that has a Banco Popular teller and ATM machine, inside the store. The California store sells clothes and toiletries (toothpaste, shaving cream, toothbrushes etc). Inexpensive bikini bathing suits can be purchased in the California store for around 250 pesos (in case you invite an amiga to the pool or the beach and she shows up without a bathing suit).

One block east of Hotel Mercure Comercial on El Conde, is the Hotel Conde de Penalbe, which has a popular sidewalk cafe. Half a block east of the Conde de Penalbe Hotel is the Hard Rock Cafe, which has indoor and outdoor seating. Thanks guys[/QUOTE]Hotel Napolitano is under $100US per night, supposedly chica friendly, it is located on the Malecon close to zona colonial. Has a pool and Mint discoteca (I saw people standing outside the entrance to Mint 2 months ago, Mint gets some pretty women on some nights).

Hilton Hotel is also on the Malecon and is chica friendly for an extra fee. Not much really close, within walking distance of the Hilton.

Me and my buddy will be returning to SD in November. This will be my 4th time to SD and I wanted to go out to some clubs on Avenida Venezuela which I've never done. Can anyone advise me on certain clubs that would be nice to take a girl (NON PRO) and to pick up girls?

Also I don't read much about Club MC which I've been to twice and really liked it. I was wondering if anyone knows if they were still open? I haven't been down since May 2010.

La Sirena is probably 3x times the distance.

The La Sirena on Avenida Mella is about 6-9 blocks (depending on how you count the blocks) from the Jumbo Express supermarket (some of those blocks will be uphill). La Sirena is 7-10 blocks from Mercure Comercial.

There is a La Sirena at Avenida Mella No. 258, Santo Domingo in zona colonial. I assume when you say the La Sirena up Duarte a few blocks, you are referring to La Sirena on Avenida Mella.

As I said before, Jumbo Express, I have bought stuff there numerous times, one or two people ahead of me at the cashier, a two minute or less wait. Jumbo Express is one block from Mercure Comercial Hotel. That Jumbo Express used to be called La Despensa.

Some people pay the hotel's mini-bar prices. Maybe some people don't know that there is a supermarket one block away, where most of the mini-bar items can be purchased for less money (I remember years ago, a hotel charging $6US for a small can of pringle chips, those same chips are about $1US on amazon). Mercure is owned by Accor, a French company. I have never stayed in the Mercure Comercial.
