This and the subsequent articles refer to "pimping" I. E. Living of prostitutes but not to prostitution itself. Maybe there is more further down, which I have not read.

If you want to chit chat and make jokes then exchange your contact information via the PM system and if you want to join the price police I hear they are taking applications in one of the other sections. You never read this stuff in the Indonesian and Philipines ISG. Why so much in the Thailand section? Those guys post a lot of photos and never complain about the prices others pay and certainly don't criticize others safe sex practices.

I have read upon arrival at BKK airport the line for taxis for going into Bangkok can be very long. One solution would be to go up 2 floors to the departure level and get a taxi who dropped a fare?

Has anyone tried this? Any problems or warnings to others who attempt this shortcut?

There are one way revolving gates to prevent you dragging your suitcases (on wheels) to the taxis. However you can just lift your suitcase over the fence. The more aggressive the taxi driver, the less I want to pick him.

Saves waiting in queue for taxi, and saves 50 baht airport fee. Take a meter ride unless you know what the prices should be. Try to know the alternative routes the taxi should take from Google Maps. However the driver will know more about traffic jams.

I am happy to pay highway tolls and go a longer way if it avoids a traffic jam. However I know all the routes. I love to arrive or depart from Thailand on a Sunday. Lower traffic. Very early morning or at night is good also.

In my opinion, the time and effort involved in going up 2 floors in the heat after a tiring flight and then not being sure what you will find at departure is better spent waiting patiently for your turn in the taxi line.

In my experience, and I regret to say it has been a couple years ago (gawd I'm needing to get back to LOS in a bad way), though, you are likely to find all manner of drivers besides the licensed taxis. I did negotiate a market rate for Pattaya at the time (and this was a fairly late hour, after the Emirates flight from HKG and a laggard baggage delivery) from an unmarked luxury car (not perhaps the wisest move). I did worry when the driver left the highway and stopped over at another location, where another car eventually deposited me in Patts. Then again, I've dealt with dodgy drivers in regular cabs, and some from the taxi stands you'll find all over Pattaya.

I'll never forget one idiot driver who somehow managed to get lost from Pattaya to the main airport, and landed us on a dirt side road. At this point I began yelling at the bastard, expecting that I'd be robbed but letting him know that I wouldn't be a mark that would go down easily. He did eventually get the vehicle back on the highway, but in short order started making a goofy "tchick tchick tchick" sound or somesuch. I was cursing him (figuring that he'd at least figure the context, if not the literal meaning which would have most likely resulted in my ejection or worse -- again, not wise in retrospect). He persisted with the "tchick tchick" nonsense, which after he pointed to his crotch, I finally realized that he needed to do a No. 1. As I was at risk of missing my flight by that point I began screaming "No no no no no. You will soil your pants before you stop this car, you [expletive]. He seemed to at least catch the drift and drove on to the terminal. And that one was the "legitimate" ride.

Some reputed cabs like Uber or something? Which one in popular in BKK?

The time saved under normal circumstances will be quite minimal.

Just go downstairs to the taxi queue. Have a printout of your destination and show it to the dispatcher, and they will communicate it to the taxi driver. When you are in the taxi ask the driver to start the meter. Tell them that taking the highway is ok. Have enough baht for the trip lower Suk it should be something like 300 be meter + 75 be tolls + 50 be airport fee. The drive will usually ask you for the toll money as you pass through them. Give the driver a small tip at the end of the trip.

Yes; you can go upstairs to the arrivals level and jump the barrier and save a wee bit of time and money, but IMO not worth it unless you do it all the time and know what you are doing.

They now have a machine at the dispatch point that sends you to a numbered taxi bay.

You line up; push a button on the machine; it spits out a ticket that says "Bay X" and you walk across to that clearly numbered bay to the cabbie who is waiting for you.

Personally, I have not observed that there is one bit of difference in what a Thai girl will gladly accept from me today vs what some other guy paid her yesterday for the same level of service. Money goes through these girls' hands and into their boyfriend's pocket, their dad's liquor supply or their baby's supposedly depleted "milk" inventory (which generally means one big food and cocktail party for her and her friends) faster than water through a sieve. So what if Joe Sony paid her 5,000 baht for a 2,000 baht job yesterday? I guarantee you she will be just as broke and in need of my 2,000 baht today as if he had only paid her 1000 baht.

Far more damaging to the state of the industry than the supposedly overpaying customer is the low demand customer. And I have definitely noticed a downside for me (the next customer) when a girl has been gifted with a series of low demand customers before me. I'm talking about guys who think they've gotten a blowjob, paid for it accordingly, when they've only gotten a handjob with a little oral foreplay thrown in. Or the guys who pay a girl to just sit with them at a disco and drink for three hours then collapse in their room never requiring the girl to do anything. Or the guys who accept one lame excuse after another for why the girl isn't up, interested and ready to provide a decent and satisfying time for her customer. Yet still pay her something significant without balking.

There is no learning curve to teach a girl how to get the overpaying customer into her trap. The chump who pays 5,000 baht for what anyone and everyone else can get from the same girl for 2,000 baht either walks into the shop or he doesn't. She either sits next to such a rube or she doesn't. But the learning curve for teaching a girl how to make a face when called upon to do something Thai girls did without hesitation 20 years ago, or what to give as an excuse for why they won't do this or that, are in a big rush to finish and go, or why they aren't even going to try to do a job well exists. It is taught to them by every low demand customer who goes along with it and pays anyway. I am not immune to falling for those lame excuses and letting it slide either. Thankfully, it is a rarer and rarer occurrence these past few years. But every time I do, I know I am doing far more damage to the industry, to other customers and, frankly, to myself in the long run than when I choose to "overpay" a really good service girl with an extra 1000 baht or so tip.
