Yes the Jaragua security staff can be frustrating, with its great location, the hotel could be mongering central but I don't think the local dominican elite who still have some nostaligic allegiance to the jaragua, wants putas roaming the floors. The new JW will add pressure and some of the biz clients like the baseball scouts and managers will undoubtedly move to the new JW hotel. Occupancy levels could force them to relax their chica policy.
I know most of the security staff and front desk agents, when in DR that is where I stay. I take care of them by buying small gifts for their newborns, and some pesos on other occasions. They usually don't hassle me, save for a newbie here and there.
Thanks.
Some photos I took 7 years ago when I stayed in the tower section of the Marriott Renaissance Jaragua Hotel (Jaragua was one of the chiefdoms on the island, that is now part of Haiti, before Columbus). There was no curfew 7 years ago and bars stayed open till whenever. I took a photo on the malecon, after exiting a small bar on the Malecon at 6am, during the walk back to the Jaragua Hotel. For that trip I gave the names of two women who I knew would be visiting me, at the time of check-in, at the Jaragua. One woman visited me at night and the front desk worker at the Jaragua, checked her cedula, with the name I gave at check-in. The second woman visited me during the day and she did not have to stop at the front desk. On a subsequent trip when I stayed in the garden section, I gave no names at check-in and security would not let me enter with any women.
