I am not one to stir up anything here but your report, some of it anyway, has me wondering if you actually went to any of the places mentioned?

I have been living here for 5 years now and the prices you quoted are way outa whack!

Maybe you got over charged but those are not the prices I pay or experience.

When I go to Sayuri, the MP the Thais also custom, I pay 1,000 thb for the regular lady, 1250 for the "B" ladies (soapy massage), 1700 for the "M" (models) and 2500 for the "S" (Supermodel)

I have VERY rarely seen Supermodels there, they sit on the upper Couches and to be honest are not that nice.

One thing I noticed is that sometimes the ladies change their number so be careful when Booking ahead.
My Fav is M14, she's a Doll.

Prices here vary depending on the Customer :

1. if you come via TukTuk, you're considered the "Tourist", a sucker that will get charged 2,500 for a regular girl (500 goes to the TukTuk Driver)

2. if you arrive there and are a Farang that does not know the price, they will charge you 2000 for the Regular girls

3. if you speak a little Thai and don't know the prices well, they will try and Squeeze 1500 out of you.

4. the Thais and Local Farangs pay 1000.

Tried a few girls there and the regular ladies are very lousy, uninterested and Mechanical.

Just as an info,

if you plan on renting a motorbike in Chiang Mai, NEVER pay more than 100thb/day (even for Automatic bikes).

there are plenty of Shops that will rent you their bikes (mostly Honda Waves or Yamaha Mio) for 100 per day.

Also, NEVER leave your Passport with them, they will ask you for it but do not let them keep it.

You need to have it with you and show them the original, yes, but you can leave them any photo ID to keep and get back your passport. Most shops will not insist and be happy to take the ID card as long as they saw the Original of the Passport first.

Also, if you get pulled over and have no license or helmet, here is what you should do :

- Tell the police officer that you want to pay "on the spot"
- he will most likely Charge you 200 THB
(200 is expensive but it covers the fine + the cop will ask a mototaxi to go to the police station and pay for you.. hence the markup on the fine)

One other thing to know about renting bikes in Chiang Mai (and that is also valid across Thailand) : YOU and the bike and NOT insured! no insurance for the damages caused

Report from Last December.

Upon arrival in the parking lot of the Sayuri complex, a security guard offered his help to park and look after my bike (great service). I enter the joint and there are about 20 girls waiting at the entrance.

The girls are from the Karaoke place on the left, expensive joint and expensive ladies so I pass.

On the right side are some stairs that lead to 2 doors : the one on the right is leading to Karaoke Rooms or to some Traditional thai Massage Rooms and Masseuse (4th floor).

Is the helmet law new in CM?
I was there last year and never had trouble without the helmet. The only places that seems to enforce this rule was in Pattaya and sometimes Phuket.

There are few places (not many) that will rent a moto with insurance but certainly not for 100b/day places. Also the contract will be in Thai and almost never in English (or French). Best to have a Thai sweetie confirm the contract beforehand as sometimes its bogus (assuming that sweetie is smart enough to read).

The Helmet law is valid across Thailand, it is just not enforced.

You can basically get pulled over by any policeman, anywhere in Thailand.

I just returned home after 4 months in CM and northern Thailand. Well, let me clarify that my main purpose of being in CM and northern Thailand was not mongering. When I WAS in CM, and had the time and urge to go mongering, I limited my activities to places of familiarity and comfort level. However, most of my time was spent in places other than CM.
