The question is it worth it? any recommendations on where to stay during the carnival?
If I attend I will stay with my Novia as the hotels are very expensive at carnival time. People come from all over Colombia for this event. As far as is it worth it. It is said to be second only to Rio.The locals get real drunk and crazy and splash everyone with different liquids.
I do not know if the regular Monger spots are open during this party time.

The question is it worth it? any recommendations on where to stay during the carnival?
I was going to go last year but like you I waited too late. What little is left for rooms available will be marked up 4 times their normal rate and I wasn't willing to pay it.
it's been awhile since i've contributed, so i figured i'd fill in what appears to be, just a general lack of information about this place, and the carnaval experience in general. i was in barranquilla from feb 13 - 17 and below are a few important items i made note of:
transportation: well flying into baq is fuck-all expensive during carnaval, so that wasn't an option. i took spirit to cartagena for ~$490 (this was the price about 45 days in advance) if you book late, the price can rise as high as ~$1000 so take that into account when making your reservation. after spending a few days in ctg i arranged transportation to baq with the mar sol bus company: http://www.transportesmarsolsa.com / land 656-4192 / cell 300-805-6659. they did have someone who spoke broken english (at the baq number anyway) so it was fairly easy to book. you give them the name of your hotel and time you want to leave. they'll give you a one-hour window during which you have to stand outside your hotel. don't fuck around with this! the driver goes very fast, if you aren't at the curb waiting, he might just blow right by you! the bus will make a few stops picking people up around cartagena (not too many, it only fits like 8 people) then the ride to baq after that is about 90 minutes. be prepared for the army to stop the bus and pat you down. nothing to worry about they are there for everyone's safety. you might want to leave the drugs at home tho. cost for the trip is 20k one-way. when it arrives in baq, the bus enters in the north of the city and travels south via a main avenue (cra 46) at this point i just hopped off then took a cab to my hotel (5k) a word about cabs in the city: i think taxistas in colombia generally do a very good job, and friendly too. however in baq, i found them to be both ill-tempered and ignorant of how to navigate their own city. i advise you to always carry complete directions, and maybe even take a look at google maps so you know where the hell you are, because they don't. on traffic: as carnaval festivities for the day are winding down (around 4-6pm) traffic is murderously slow. know your surroundings, because in many situations walking may be preferable. on the trip back to cartagena: do call mar sol and arrange your return trip to the ctg airport well in advance! do not trust the hotel to do this for you. i got screwed and ended up having to pay their private driver 170k. so do not have the hotel arrange your travel under any circumstances, you will be screwed. something that might seem obvious to everyone else, but not me: you can't just grab any old taxi off the street to take you from baq to ctg. they need some sort of papers to get by the military checkpoints. so don't just expect to flag down an intra-city taxi from the corner.
hotel: making a hotel reservation for carnaval can be somewhat daunting. do not bother with any hotel booked through expedia, orbitz, or any internet site. you'll pay something like a 300% premium. if you don't speak spanish, find someone who does, and then look in paginas amarillas for one of hundreds of hotels. i discovered this too late, having already paid a huge premium to reserve at hotel majestic - http://www.hotelmajesticcolombia.com (around $150us / night) i picked this place for three reasons: one, they respond to email. if you use babelfish and basic words, you can complete the reservation process without ever needing to speak your broken spanish to anyone. two, they have a decent, and clean pool area (in the 100 degree heat of baq, this is a game-changer!!) three, despite the fact it is not very majestic (3 stars at best) this hotel is centrally located to carnaval events and the hoe club (lusitanias).
location: i spent most of my time in prado and alto prado because honestly baq is a nasty looking city, and there really is no reason to see the rest of it. "oh but i want to mix with the real locals in the south blah blah blah" fuck that. prado is plenty local enough. i saw human [CodeWord113] on the ground more than once, and this is supposed to be the nice part of town. so fuck the south. anyway, i digress. check out the map. pretty much everything you'll want to see is in this area. the carnval parade route is down calle 40, also called via cuarenta, note it on the map. from hotel majestic proceed eastward on cr 54 until you see a huge overpass. turn left along the overpass, and you will see a bunch of carnaval shit, this marks the end of the parade route. this area is sparsely populated, and a good place to setup if you want to take unobstructed photos. as you proceed northward up via 40, it gets more and more crowded. about a half a mile north of the exit, you'll begin to see the "parcos" which are umbrella-shaded sitting areas. i came across several reports of people on the internet selling tickets to these areas for upwards of 150k- don't do that. the best way is just just walk up and look all tired like you want to sit down. someone will offer you a chair for like.. 5k. that's $2.50 vs $75!! so don't fall for the trap and buy that shit on the internet. the one thing you might want to buy tickets for (http://www.tuboleto.com) are some of the music events, which looked pretty crowded and had major acts like don omar and shit.
girls: the pro scene in baq is just fucking awful. due to the fact its the only venue open during carnaval, the crazy bitches in lusitanias were trying to charge in the neighborhood of 250k. i avoided the murillo bars as there are reports many have closed. i did find one daytime location not previously advertised, but had just closed when i arrived: abril spa calle 42 no 44 - 47 9.00am – 9:30pm 3419362 50k half hour. reports that the local paper is full of daytime casa action are exaggerated, el heraldo was delivered to my hotel room everyday and i saw not shit in the classificados. now, where baq does shine is non-pros, here's how to find them. first there's all those marriage agencies, loveme.com etc, those have a good amount of chicks. then there is facebook. baq is home to several universities. plug those university names into facebook search and find hundreds of college chicks. then there is a site called adoos.com. i mention this site because it a) has tons of fine as non-pros from baq and b) it tells you which ones speak english! and you can search on that parameter. very cool. so in short, if you come to baq for the pros, you will fucking fail. so look up some non-pros, they love to show you around the city/carnaval.
the heat, oh god the heat: the heat in baq is unreal, like a punishment from god. dress accordingly, for triple-digit temps. get a hotel with a pool and stay hydrated. even at night its like 90 degrees. no fucking joke here, you will pass the fuck out. the only place i could compare it to is asuncion, paraguay. except asuncion is much cleaner, this city is really filthy.

I suppose that would have been helpful.
Xion, your comments about BAQ sure contrast to the lovely profile one gets on a foreign affair, where they go on about BAQ being this 'enchanted' city...you are probably much closer to the truth.
Do you think the problem with the casas was due to the fact that it was carnaval time when you went, there appears to be a pretty good list of them here on ISG. I sure can identify with you about the heat, CTG almost killed me, this place sounds worse. Still want to visit it at some point, think it's worth it for a few days?
Indeed Xion149 is right on the money, BAQ is a nasty looking city and too damn hot. I even hated having to pass it while going from CGC to Santa Marta. However, upon entering the local mall and seeing how beautiful the non pros are, it becomes apparent this is not such a bad place after all. Thanks for the great informative post Xion149, the hotel tips were great.
Last Saturday night when walking back to my hotel in Santa Marta I noticed a Hotel & Suites Sorrento. It was just my luck because I would be going to Barranquilla the next day and as I had tried to access the website (www.Sorrentohoteles.com) the night before, it was down. So I stopped inside the El Rodadero/Santa Marta location and asked the desk clerk to call Barranquilla to make reservations for me.
Each time I have been to Barranquilla I have stayed at this hotel. I forget who in the forum turned me on to it a few years back. The cost is 96, 000 pesos for 1 person and there is no additional fee for visitors who don't stay overnight. The location is Cra 49 No. 72-20 and the phone number is (05)53582130.
I took Marsol out of Santa Marta to Barranquilla last Sunday morning. When I arrived at 1pm a non-pro came over to visit. We stayed sequestered the entire day. About 9pm we went out to a restaurant to grab some BBQ. From there she took a taxi home and I took one back to the hotel. I decided to walk around to see what I could C. It had been about 3 years since I had been there.
Really the only difference I noticed is that like Xion said, the place has become a shit hole. Maybe I would attribute it to Carnaval except that the park and basketball gym where the SWs were before had really become run down. I remember seeing a sign posted on the side of the gym that said, "Please do not [CodeWord140] or shit here. " I mean it was fucking bad. It was so bad that I saw what I assumed to be a homeless woman sweeping up a ton of trash on the sidewalks. The park used to be fairly decent. Now I don't even think I would walk through it in the daytime, damn the night. The SWs aren't even there anymore. Is that bad enough for you? I did encounter two decent, young (maybe 20-21), black SWs on the corner across from the gym. I stopped to chat with them for a couple of minutes, and then I continued on my way back to the hotel.
The next day I stopped by to see a non-pro who I used to deal with then I headed to the airport for my flight to Cali. The route the driver took went through El Murillo. However, it was about 12:30 in the afternoon so I could not tell if the old pro dives were still in business or not. I would not recommend Barranquilla for anything. I can see why this thread has dried up. In the words of Xion, "Fuck That!"

Also Lusatania, but they tried to hit me with an admission charge so I walked. Silgo had a 2 beer admission charge of 6k which was not bad so I went inside. Many, many hombres with a few real good looking girls and a lot of Gorditas.
After MDE it is hard to pay these girls 50K when I can get much better in MDE for 25 to 30K.
I am here to see an old Novia and I was going to stay for 10 days but, if she is not real happy to see me today than back to Mayorista and the Centro Casa's.
Also very fuckin hot here. Even more so than Cali.

Still want to visit it at some point, think it's worth it for a few days?
hah yes in addition to AFA there's one called "ilovelatins. Com", that guy is hilarious in all his advertisements. About the casas & carnival timing: I think that is a fair assumption. The places I could find were closed, also most major businesses of any kind were closed (Froggs Leggs, one of the more exclusive dance clubs, closed) after 8pm it was hard to even find a restaurant open. Also that list was posted in 2008 I think, so its possible those places are still around, but with the heat and carnival going on I didn't have the patience to verify.
Is it worth going back? For mongering, absolutely not. For the Carnaval and the non-pros, mayB. I say maybe because once you get the non-pro, you're stuck in this hot ugly boring city. Also you'd better like to dance, and drink. Those seemed to be the only activities going on late at night. Unless you meet a smoking hot girl (in which case the city becomes slightly more tolerable) I'd give it 4 days tops before you're itching to leave BAQ.
After another high price dinner with the Novia, she went home at 9 PM as she had to go to work early the next day.
So at 10 PM I go to the best strip club in BAQ value wise. Silgo XX1.
A lot of hot girls with not many hombres. Last Sat. Night it was just the other way around. Anyway I see a really classic looking Latina and invite her for a beer. 6K for me and same price for her for a hienakin beer.
No good vibes at all so I tried another one and she was worse.
Just as I was ready to pack it in along comes a Stunner who just sits herself down and just starts flirting with me like crazy. She tells me that I have been watching you all night and was glad when the other girls went away.
Only a guy like me could listen to this and feel good but I am here to have fun and I like that kind of talk from a very sharp women. 20 years old with a very strong body and whiter skin than mine. Name was Liliana. 50K for 20 minutes on site. Very nice natural tits. Covered BJ but very nice and slow.
For some reason I did not try for my coveted BBBJ.
She asked me for 10K for a taxi but that was no problem as I was going to tip her that much anyway.
It got a little wild as we waited for our taxi's. She wants me to come to her house in the morning to cook for me but no sexo, then when I told her I am leaving for MDE in a few days she begs me to take her with me.
This girl is a solid 9 and as much as I would like to believe how much she like me. I know this road I have traveled before and it can get very expensive. I think I will tempt fate and skip the breakfast and just go to the club again for another session. I like to be strong but if I pass her up then when I am back in the States I will kick myself for not tasting her again.

Ok after that brief time with Liliana I decided to return to Siglo XX1 to see if she would be working. I spotted her sitting with another guy so I walked by slowly and she saw me and I told her I would wait for her at the other end of the bar. About 30 minutes she comes over and sits with me.
She wants some vino so I order a 30K bottle. We both are drinking it, a little sweet but not to bad. She asks me if I still want to go dancing with her. Sure I say after we finish this wine. I had to pay a 70K barfine, but at this point there is no turning back. Of to some disco in the north part of the city.
When I take Pro's to a disco I always take them a little older as I feel less out of place this way. Anyway she is 22 not 20 as I first thought and as I said before a solid 9 with the attidude of a 10. Since I was already a little high from the wine I did not care if I looked foolish.
OK she now wants Rum. 30K for a bottle and we start drink for drink plus much dancing.
That bottle gone and we order another one. (a lession to be learned, do not try to keep up with a Colombiana when it comes to booze). Next thing I know I am in a taxi with her at my hotel and the last hour was a blank for me and she was gone. In my room after throwing up a lot I checked my money the next morning and it was not a rippoff by her. My money seemed OK.
Now it is the next day and I have a date with the Novia to go to Porto Colombia for a day at the beach. Not a good idea with a hangover, but I was committed to it. Not a bad place to spend a day. If you go to the nice hotel there and give a 10K per person deposit against any food or drink you pay for. You get a nice place to sit by the beach and the vendors are not allowed to really bother you.
I make it thru the day and she sees I am sick so she goes home. This was our last night together and she was not happy.
Now I am in my hotel and thinking of Liliana. It is a Sunday night and I most likely think she is not working. What to do? I am feeling a little better and I sure would like to see her one last time before leaving for MDE in the morning. I call her and she tells me how she was sick also last night. We laugh and I try to get her to meet me somewhere but not my hotel as my Novia is friends now with some of the staff. She agrees to come to my hotel but she will not get out of the taxi. She says in 30 minutes and I think that means at least a hour or more. Surprise it only took her 45 minutes.
Off we go to I thought was a love hotel but turned out to be a nice find instead. 60K a night but the room was great and they even have Wi Fi and a nice pool. Caribbean Gold Hotel. Calle 45 No. 44-52.
This time I ask for my BBBJ and she tells me she doesn't do that. No problem I say and then all of a sudden I am getting My BBBJ and is was slow and easy. This girls is so full of surprises. She saw I was having trouble watching her so she stops and gets another pillow and props it under my head. Do I have to tell you guys I am now in heaven. I want sexo with her so she goes thru a bunch of cowgirl stuff but I feel the Miss is the best way to go. Did I mention she has no kids and the tightest pussy in my memory. I did not last long like that. For the rest of the 2 hours I had requested it was snuggle up time watching TV. I ask her how much money I gave her last night and she said I just paid for the cab, but it was OK since I spent a lot of money on drinks for us. So I paid her for both nights plus taxi money and yes I paid her more than anybody else I have had but she was the best and sometimes it goes like that.
Sorry guys I usually do not go into such sex detail, mostly adress's and prices but bear with me as this was what I have been looking for a long time.
I did not get her E-1mail adress or anything like that. Just her phone number which if I get back to BAQ. I will surely call.
Yeah guys I know I will get a few PM's about her contact info but she is special so you would have to have a little history with me to get that information. Of course I gave you some good hints like where she works and her name and such. Good luck if you look for her you won't be sorry if you find her.

I liked your posts about her (Liliana), seems as though you may enjoy your time with her more than with your novia :)
