Money exchange at the airport offers the standard official rate.
Suprising enough, this is not higher than what you can find in town.
At hotels, the rate is much less favourable.
Also, I found some "private" (?) exchangers near the Museo del Oro (I guess they were illegal), but they offered such a small rate gain that I refused, not to mention that I did not want to risk to do anythng against regulations.
Change your money with no worries at the airport. Avoid hotels.
You can also pick money from ATM (credit card), but you pay 4% commission.
The Bogota airport is not so big. You'll find the two exchange boxes with no problems right at the exit.
I just got back from Bogota. I stayed at the Hotel El Dorado at Carrera 4 No. 15-00 downtown. 15,000 COP (US$6. 75)/night. Very basic. Bed and a building. TV in room although I couldn't get any of the channels to come in.community bathroom: 1/floor. The hotel is 4 floors with maybe 3 or 4 rooms on each floor. No elevator. Half of a towel and two mini-bars of soap come with the room.
I didn't do any mongering. But I did go to a couple of regular small clubs. The first was Corporacion Club Social Univeritario located at Calle 20 AV Jimenez no 0-06 este Calle de la Aduana Vieja. It was a pretty good spot. They had the best Cuban Mojitos with plenty of fresh mint for 4000 COP. There were enough beautiful honies there.
The second club was La Poncena located at Caracas & 45. There were 90% black people. I saw my dream girl (tall and just right) but couldn't talk to her because I was already there with someone. There was also a girl who looked like Selma Hayak that not many people were asking to dance.
We all have our opinions I guess. I disagree with this post. In my opinion the absolute best way to change money and best bang for your buck is ATM's. You need to set up a bank that doesn't charge fees for using another banks ATM. That or one that will reimburse them. Even the ATM cards that charge no other bank ATM fee but charge the 1% international currency exchange fee is better than changing your money at the airport. In my experience changing money at a hotel or airport is the absoulte worst way to change money. The truth is taking money is a bad idea. ATM card is the way to go, but if you must take money to change.. find the banks that will change them or change them at a casa de cambio. That's just if you must take cash. Heck I'd even change on the street before I;d do it at the airport.. .but that's just me... and of course I wouldnt do that either as I've learned.. ATM is the way to go.

There is really no need at all to take and exchange cash. I landed with only $30 in my pocket, to use when I arrived back in the States. Everything I used in Colombia I took out of ATMs while I was there.
You can take your money out of an ATM at the Bogota airport.
After you clear customs you will be coming towards the exit with the taxis on your right. Instead, turn left and go upstairs to the departure level. Once up there take a right, and walk about 150 meters or so past some stores. You will see a bank of different ATM machines on your left.
I prefer to use the Davidienda machines as they will give you 500,000 pesos. It cuts down on the number of trips you have to make, and the number of withdrawal charges if your bank imposes them.
Once in the city, you can find Davidienda (or other bank) ATMs all over the place.
When I was there in December, the official interbank rate according to xe.com was 2237, and through the ATM I received a rate of 2221. Close enough.
Besides getting the best rate, it is also serves as a safety precaution. If you only keep enough cash on hand to cover 1-2 days, you can't lose more than that if you do happen to get robbed.
I keep money in three different banks, so that if for some odd reason I want to take out a large amount I am not hindered by any daily limits.

I can confirm this. As far as I remember, there are actually several ATMs there. On the same level, there are a few banks, but everytime I even thought about changing money, the long lines quickly discouraged me. Absolutely no reason to even consider that option.

Ditto this post.. couldnt have said it any better... Davidienda is the way to go as they allow you to take out 500k pesos. Also ditto, if you take $2kUS and get robbed.. dat sucks. If you get robbed right after you go the ATM, worst thing that happens is you lose $500k pesos... which also sucks but not near as bad as stashing US dollars somewhere. I too took US dollars my first time to Colombia many years ago, and travelers checks... never again.

In answer to your request regarding money changing in Colombia. ATM's have changed the world for travellers and to carry a large sum of cash whether Euros or Dollars is very unwise and I can tell you that a Colombian bank would charge a very high fees to process the transaction and you would be walking down the high street with a bag full of peso and a large sign on your back "PLEASE ROB ME".
Using an ATM it is always adviable to carry at least two cards because if a card becomes demagnitized or damaged you could be in a very unpleasant situation trying to get cash in an unfriendly environment.
There are ATM's in all areas in Colombia , try to find one that is not secluded and there is a guard at the front door.

In fact where I will go I don't know if there is a ATM, it is a small town. Surely there are some banks. Can a ATM change so much money? I cannot go out from airoport, I will have 2 hours only to take money.

Do not even consider taking 2500 Euros to change in the airport... 1) Im not sure it can be done and 2) it would be severely severly stupid. Nothing else really needs to be said. Take an ATM card or don't go.

Dude, Seriously. Deposit the 2500 euros in the bank and then do all your transactions at the atms. I will be getting my 500k at the airport as soon as I arrive in Bogota. Its the only way to go.

What small town are we talking about? Maybe somebody has already been there. You can probably figure out in advance whether there is an ATM accepting foreign cards. I sure would try. As long as they accept Visa/Mastercard, you should be fine.
Now that I think about it: if it is such a small town, maybe EUR cash isn't such a good idea in the first place. If anything, US dollars.
Why do you need to bring EUR 2500 in cash, anyway? How long are you staying in Colombia? Sorry, I know this is none of my business, but I am just trying to help.
