Yes, about 300 usd / day should be comfortable for most people (for a hotel, booze and hookers). You won't be on the low end surely, but it's not particularly difficult to spend more than that these days either.

Many girls leave BKK and Pattaya to be home with their families over the Songkran Holiday, but a sufficient number of girls remain behind so you will not have too much of a problem getting laid. The question is: Do You want to be around for Songkran? If you do decide to stay in Thailand you are going to get wet. I suppose that if you have never experienced this holiday and you have the right attitude about it, you can have a real good time. It is a festive occasion. On the other hand, you can just get out of Dodge City for a few days and be none the worse off for skipping it. To that end I suggest a 3 or 4 day lay over in Phnom Penh. PP is close by (a 45 minute flight), the food is tasty, its a Buddhist country, and there are plenty of bars and friendly girls. The only problem is "everybody" leaves Thailand over Songkran so air fares nearly double from the 11th to the 18th of April. Another alternative is to head for a quiet island beach like Koh Chang where everything will be more relaxed. Koh Chang is a beautiful island with good beaches, not many bars, and it is approximately a 4 hour drive from BKK or 3 hours from Pattaya.

All you will see is Westerners, who will have no idea what the purpose of Songkran is, behave like absolute fuckwits. If you are anything like me, it will be one of those times when you are embarrassed to be a white honky. You will also get very wet in the process. Go elsewhere.

Some places (Nana or Soi Cowboy for example) were a riot, but wet and fun. Other streets were calm (or busy) as usual. So Bangkok allows one to experience Songkran as one wants.

I had a lot of fun, fighting with the girls with these tiny water guns, inside the disco! Hopefully there was no short-circuit, nor fire.
